I am participating in a study at a local university, and as part of the study they weigh me, measure my waist, take my blood pressure, check my cholesterol, and do a whole panel of blood tests on me every few months. Anyway, one test they had to do to me was a
doubly-labeled water test (Wikipedia link with more info) that allows them to measure pretty exactly what my body burns in calories (before I was dieting). I thought it might be interesting for you ladies to see what exactly one of your own burns in calories - it was interesting for me! It turned out to be just about what I thought it was, though. Anyway, here it is:
I'm 33, female
5' 5.5"
148 lbs
activity: jog 3 miles/4 times a week
average calories burned per day: 2270
One of the best things about participating in the study will be that I will get to see what changes, if any, occur in my blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and other vital signs as I lose weight. Should be interesting!
