Default Do you go to bed hungry?

I kind of figure that if I'm a little hungry at bedtime, it means that I'm not going to be storing up tons of fat overnight from things I've eaten before bed that haven't been worked off yet. Is that crazy? Should I have a snack before bed if I'm hungry, or just sleep it off?

If I am actually hungry, I eat before I go to bed because if I don't, I will wake up hungry during the night. If it's just a snack craving, I skip it and go to bed. I rarely wake up hungry, I can't remember the last time that's happened.

ETA - I meant I rarely wake up hungry, meaning when I get up in the morning.

^^What she said!

I try to drink water and wait 20 minutes, to see if it's just a craving. If I am still feeling hungry after I drink water, I know it's true hunger and not just a snack attack.

I usually don't get the munchies at night, but when I do I usually have a string cheese or Jello and combine it with my water. This usually will take care of it and by the morning I am a okay to have my regular breakfast and not over do it.

Hi. You definitely are supposed to just go to sleep. If you're hungry, you're burning fat, and since that's the goal... Dr. Oz, on Oprah, and Oprah, and Bob Greene, are always talking about how you shouldn't eat a thing after something like 8:00, because you don't have time to burn anything off and whatever you eat at that time will be more likely to be stored as fat. I think it's hard to do, so a lot of people have to struggle with that, but if you can avoid eating, it only makes sense that you'd lose weight more successfully and keep it off too.

I think the jury is still out on this one. If you're truly hungry at bedtime, maybe you haven't eaten enough during the day. But if you just have a case of the munchies, I don't think it would hurt to have something light, such as string cheese or a SF popsicle, or even a mug of warm milk with cinnamon. A protein and calcium snack will also help you get a good night's sleep.

I stayed up later than usual last night and got hungry. There was a pan of brownies on the counter...ouch! So instead I grabbed a couple of slices of turkey and put some Gray Poupon on it and tried to go to sleep fast!

I go to be hungry, mostly to avoid eating - because once I fall asleep I won't want to eat anymore and I wake up not hungry.

So if I'm getting tempted at night, I just go to bed.

I have the opposite problem and have been meaning to post a question. I work until 6pm, my husband coaches softball, this week has been awful! By the time we get home it is 8 or 9 if we are lucky, and still no supper! I cook for the "boys" and try to eat light myself. The pounds are still coming off although slow (I think that is because I a getting closer to my goal though). I guess what I am trying to say is eating late hasn't stopped my weight loss, surely I don't recommend this though! Am I making any sense? I don't think so!

Pacer, when I was pregnant I had awful heartburn if I ate too much in the evening, so I started making our "big meal" at lunch time and then having a smaller lunch-type dinner. That might work for you, if you are able to switch your meals around. It did the trick for me with the heartburn issue, and we kept up the habit for awhile afterward, actually up until we got here to Korea and the schedule kind of just went wonky in general!

I work until 11:30 at night and am usually a little hungry when I get home so I'll have a SF fudgsicle or some cheese before bed. When I did SB last time I went to bed hungry and woke up light headed so if I'm hungry before bed I know I need to eat something.

I can see how waking up and falling out of bed in a dizzy stupor would be a bad idea! I'm bad enough in the morning as it is!!!

I have this weird thing where my stomach will get really active and gurgly (is that a word?) after I go to bed. For a while, I thought it was hunger but it would still happen even after eating something. Now, I just ignore it and I'm good to go until morning.

I can NOT sleep if I'm hungry. I will lay there for hours and hours. It's horrible.

But, I have a new rule that I don't eat within an hour of going to bed. I've heard 2 to 3 hours is ideal, but for now I'm starting with one hour (at least- last night it was 2.5 hours from the last thing I ate til I went to bed).

Like you,I have 3 little kids, and I don't get many opportunities to eat during the day. I do eat here and there but dinner is my main meal. And even when that's satisfying, that is 6 p.m. I usually don't go to bed til 11. So of course I'm hungry around 9:00. So I try to reserve some calories or a snack for that time of day. And I try to PLAN what I will eat, so I'm not standing in the kitchen with my hands on my hips just staring at the cupboards.
