Default I need help with breakfast ideas, please

Hi,

I just got a temporary crown put in, and was told to be "very careful with sticky foods" until my next appointment-in August! I usually have wheat toast with peanut butter for breakfast, and I"m afraid eating peanut butter will pull the crown off.

Any breakfast ideas? I need protein in the morning-a bowl of cereal does not cut it for me! Maybe toast with low fat cheese or some yogurt?

I used to love cottage cheese, but for some reason can't stand it now.

Thanks for any ideas-
Sherry

Oatmeal with blueberries/sprinkle of walnuts

I love to make whole wheat wraps in the morning with 1/4 cup eggbeaters, spinach leaves, 1 chopped up veggie sausage and tons of salsa

A wrap like Glory mentioned with the eggs and vegetables is great especially with the veggie sausage (or I'll have 1 piece of turkey bacon broken up in it for 35 cals and skip the 80 cal veggie pattie). If you want a little extra protein on top of the egg or egg beater a wedge of laughing cow cheese takes it over the top. This is one of my favorites for breakefast! A whole wheat tortilla is MUCH less gummy than a white one any day of the week. <---big toothy grin for you!

Just wanted to say that I have had a temp crown on for a year and eat everything except for something like taffy. It came off once and I went in and they put it right back on. I have some temp cement to mix if it ever comes off when I am out of town. They are waiting for me to finish bleaching so the permanent will be as light as the rest of my teeth.

I had the opposite experience as Hocus Pocus.

I had my temporary onlay (like a crown) in December. It came out the first time I ate chocolate. (Maybe it was punishment!). My dentist came in on a Sunday to put it back in for me with stronger cement. It did hold longer the second time but I would still stay away from any sticky foods.

Smoothies are an excellent suggestion! You could even use your peanut butter in the smoothie for the same yummy taste without the stickiness.

Thank you for the ideas! I love scrambled eggs-so making them with salsa/low fat cheese and using a wheat wrap (already have them) sounds delicious! Thank you all for the ideas.

I have to avoid soy products most of the time because I'm hypothyroid and soy interferes with the abosrption of the medication.

Jess-the last time I had a temporary crown it came out while I was eating a nutri grain bar! I love chocolate, but maybe this will be an incentive to cut way back on it!

Take care,
Sherry

I haven't done this in ages, but I used to frequently eat a little mini turkey sandwich in the morning. I used mini whole wheat bagels and put a bit of deli turkey on it. Seemed like an odd breakfast, but kept me full, and sometimes I'd have two of them or just one paired with fruit or something else.

I wish I liked oatmeal, but I've just always thought it was like prison gruel, seriously. My husband eats it every day, and the sight of it makes me feel like banging a tin cup against some bars.

Thanks!

I had a mini whole wheat bagel with muenster cheese.

I do love oatmeal, but only with raisins in it. I"m afraid the raisins will pull off the crown.

Thanks-
sherry

I am with the oatmeal crowd. I eat it at least 5 days a week, sometimes more. (I eat eggs or cereal on the weekends) If you like the peanut butter flavor, try mixing it in oatmeal. It will melt, so it won't be sticky. I always mix a mashed banana in mine and one day will add peanut butter and see how it tastes.

I had no trouble with my crown, it was years ago and I ate what I wanted. No clue how I'd do now. Post a picture of your pearly whites when you are done bleaching!

Hi,

Thanks for the idea of putting peanut butter in oatmeal.

I'm not getting my teeth bleached ( I wish I could, but it costs too much) I'm just getting dental work done.

Sherry,

I know you've received quite a few ideas, but I thought I'd add a couple more.

First off, I've started taking a protein shake in the morning. I was told if I would start the day with protein, it kicks your body into using your stored fat for energy instead of what food you are eating. So--I have a protein shake and then 2 hours later, eat a small breakfast. It's worked FABULOUS!

The protein shake I use has 30 grams of protein and is the same pharmaceutical grade protein as what they feed prematurely born babies. Because of that, it's instantly absorbed and really gives a lot of energy.

Then two hours later--I usually have my breakfast. Two of my favorites are:

1) Low carb flour tortillas (2) I think they are the 8" size). Mix together a half of large tomato (chopped) with 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil and a TB of dried basil. Sprinkle each tortilla with an ounce of cheddar cheese, melt and then add the tomato mix. Yuuuuuuuuuuuum-O!

2) Three thin slices of ham or turkey (depending on what you feel like for the day). Spread 2 tsp cream cheese down the center of all three. Sprinkle with some freshly chopped chives, and then roll. These are my favorite if I'm on the go out the door. They are yummy yummy yummy!

All the best!

Sherry -

I've just started a new breakfast habit. I love my oatmeal. BUT I tend to really poop out because of the lack of protein. I started but a tablespoon of protein powder (I know you don't do soy but they have other types) with a piece of fruit (I love peaches) in my oatmeal and it's made a huge difference.

Just thought you might want to know!
