Default What is your favorite artificial sweetener?

My mom had made some cookies with Splenda a couple weeks ago and I didn't care for the aftertaste, so when I went shopping to stock the cupboards for starting South Beach I didn't know which sweetener to buy but I knew I didn't want Splenda. I went with Equal, because the packaging looked cool and you could either pour it out for baking purposes or sprinkle it out.

Just wondering what you all use.

Everyone's doing the Splenda thing, but I don't particularly like it either. I love Equal.

I'm loyal to Splenda. I like the fact that you can cook and bake with it.

I don't use it a lot, just if I make the ricotta creme really, but it makes me a little nervous since it's all artificial. Anyone know of any concerns about long-term use of artificial sweeteners?

I've used Splenda (or "yellow sugar" as my Dad called it)for years in my coffee and tea and occasionally for baking..
But I found something new a couple of weeks ago at Whole Foods called "Swerve". It looks just like sugar and tastes pretty similar, but not quite as sweet. I didn't find it had an aftertaste and got my husband to try some and he didn't find an aftertaste either (and he KNOWS when I use "fake sugar" cause he can't stand it)

It is kind of pricey, so I will probably just use it to cook/bake and keep using Splenda in my coffee/tea. I really don't mind the aftertaste.

Last night I cooked some turkey cutlets with a pear balsamic vinegar reduction that called for brown sugar and used Splenda brown sugar instead...husband did not say anything about an aftertaste with that and he definately would if he detected it!

I use Splenda, in fact I sneak it in my husbands coffee and he hasn't caught on yet. I have been using artificial sweetners for over 10 yrs, before I was married and still lived at home this is all we used since my father is diabetic. I guess that's why I find no aftertaste. Definately use whatever you are comfortable with and able to stick with.
