I am kind of frustrated because it seems to me that LAWL is very much geared to those with a "sweet tooth". There are plenty of bars and drinks and convenient alternatives when a sweet craving comes along. What about those of us that don't care for sweets??? I have to make a genuine effort to eat the Lites because I do not really care about sweets. Cake, cookies, all of that usually make me feel sick anyways, they always have. I am craving salty foods but I am having a lot of trouble finding 1. Good alternatives 2. convenient alternatives. My COD said that I can't eat pickles and they suggested their soups. Let me tell ya, living in AZ, soup is the last thing I want these days!!
Any salty-tasting snack suggestions? OR am I possibly deficient in a vitamin or something if my cravings are running wild???
I think I may have to break down and fork over the $$ for the snacks. I don't want to because they are so pricey but my goal is worth it. I just need to keep telling myself that.
You can also look for soy crisps (kind of like rice cakes).. They make some really tasty ones these days, but they have quite a bit more salt than the LAWL stuff... If you buy them, use them in STRICT moderation. Your COD won't approve of them either, if they are anything like mine was..
I've been having the Crispy Mini's (rice cakes) and the 100g bags of Baked Cheetos, and my COD hasn't said anything about them not being allowed, so until they do, I'm going for it.
When I need something I try to get rice crackers. They satisfy the need to crunch something. They make multiple flavors - but the plain ones I've found have very little sodium and taste pretty good.
My COD also OK'd the 100 calorie popcorn. I'm not sure if it's salted or not but add the Morton's if not. You will start to miss salt less and less. I am a big saltaholic. I used to have a lemon almost every night with a TON of salt. I just craved salt. (I started with pickles and graduated to lemons) I began the diet Feb 26th so 3 months and I'm not really missing it. Every now and again I have a twang and I'll break out the lemon but it's rare now.
Clue.......I don't know how convenient this would be......but I love slicing up a cucumber and putting a half water half cider vinegar solution over it.....and using, are you ready?? a bit of real salt with a bit of lite salt. Somehow, the cider vinegar seems to intensify the salty flavor....and it's pretty darn yum. You can add some valdelia onions too.....and it's pretty tasty
I do the same exact thing with the cucumber, gets rid of the potato chip cravings every time.
Triscuits are also a little more on the salty side, I use them as a starch when I'm really craving. Some of the Lites go okay with peanut butter which will also give you the salt twinge.
I believe technically those would be 1 starch and 1 fat, based on what I've been told, but I've always counted 100 calorie cookies and other assorted snack packs as just a starch. They're close enough in nutritional values to the average LAWL starch snack, and I seem to get away with it... so far, anyway
Clue - first- I LOVE your quote at the end. I have it on my email signature. :-)
I'm a salt-o-holic too and feel the same for sweets - but I eat the bars anyways (luna).
That's about it - I haven't found a way to cure my salt cravings, yet.
It's all mental and knowing when it's "ok" to sneak a couple of chips... Early on in the program it's a big no-no.. but after a while, as your body starts to burn more of the calories you put into it, a couple of chips here and there don't do as much damage. The problem is that for me, they are a trigger, so controlling myself is the big problem...
I have to say it's funny to see you use the name "Snowdogs"... I used to use that as my handle when I played lazer tag at LT areana we had here in ABQ back in the 80's (big geek confession).. Well, I used "Snowdog" with no "s"... I took it from one of my favorite Rush songs: "Bytor and the Snowdog"...
