hello i'm 25 and am glad i found this site. I have found myself at my largest size and need to change. I've never been a real small person but now at over 300 pounds and with a baby on the way its really time to buckle down. I guess my motivation now is I want to be able to care of my child. I don't want to be a mom that it is ashamed of. and most of all i want to be in its life for a long time. So that is me ina nutshell.
This is a great site for support, inspiration and ideas! When are you due? I've never been pregnant, but if you're pregnant, I guess this isn't the time for you to buckle down with significant weight loss -- though there's a pregnant and nursing forum you can check out here at 3fc.
In the meantime, join us on the numbered weekly threads -- that's where a lot of the action is!
Hello and welcome! Since I too have never been pregnant I wouldn't know much about that aspect of things. You probably don't want to "diet" -- BUT you undoubtedly DO need to focus one eating healthfully and whatever exercise is appropriate... perhaps you could talk to your doctor and have him/her get you on a sensible, safe plan for you and your new baby.
I'm trying to get pregnant and it's one of my prime motivators in finally getting this weight off so I can be a healthy mom who's able to keep up with a baby. Kudos to you for taking this on, but be sure to check with your doctor and all.
Have you read any of the eating guideline books for pregnant women? There are some pregnancy books specifically geared towards 'plus-size' women. That might be a good place to look, too. Also, there's a forum in the 'dieting with obstacles' section for soon-to-be and new moms so check there for some good info and support as well.
i'm due in december and i'm not planning on losing massive amounts right now. but i do need to start eating healthier and have gone of everything with a doctor
well I congratulate you for being in that frame of mind. I decided when I was pregnant with my now 2 yr old, that it was a free ticket to eat anything I wanted, which in turn helped me gain the 80 lbs I am trying to loose now lol. I was about 250 when I got preggo to begin with. I would definaltely, under your OB/GYN's care try and lose weight. It happens and it isnt unhealthy for the baby!!
Good luck!
Welcome to 3FC and congratulations on your pregnancy! It is a great time to think healthy, as your growing baby will need all the nutrition he/she can get!
I have a daughter who will be 3 in july. I weighed about 310 when I got pregnant. I ended up getting gestational diabetes so I followed a diabetic diet during the pregnancy. When Emily was born, I was down to 301. At my six week check up I was 276. I followed a diabetic diet during the pregancy but i ate plenty of the foods you are allowed. The increase in my metabolism during the pregnancy was helpful.
During breastfeeding, I was able to eat anything I wanted and not gain. When I stopped breastfeeding, I am back up to 320 and want to work on that.
I had an easy pregancy, a quick labor (4 hours) and a healthy baby. Best of Luck to you.

Reason: Add weight tracker
I lost about 17 lbs right before I got pregnant with my son, putting me around 270. My dr. told me to continue on my healthy eating plan. I did not stay completely on my healthy eating plan, but I managed to not gain any weight while I was pregnant and after he was born I was about 7 lbs lighter than when I got pregnant. If I had stayed on plan more, I might have lost a lot more weight. The dr. told me I had so much extra weight that the baby would be fine. She said women of healthy weight are only supposed to gain 25 lbs, so as long as we are more overweight than that it is fine. I also talked to a dr. that does weight loss surgery and he said many women do the surgery to get pregnant, and they do, while still losing large amounts of weight and they have healthy babies. As long as you are getting good nutrition and taking your vitamins, you should be fine losing a few pounds.
I was an odd one when I was pregnant with my son 10 years ago. I was 398lbs. when I got pregnant and along with heart issues, I also had thyroid issues, which I still have. However, when I was preggers, I lost weight with every appointment that I had at two week intervals and I was able to stop taking both my thyroid meds and my heart meds. My son was growing just fine, but I noticed that my diet had changed. I stopped eating white bread and wasn't big on fried foods and such.
Once I had him, my body decided that it was time to go back to where it was and all the weight I had lost (I could see my toes for the first time without having to lean over!!!), I gained all back, my thyroid went wonky again and I had to go back on my heart meds as well.
Congrats on your new little, to come, member of the family and I wish you well on your journey to getting healthy.
