Finally made the big step and decided to join LAWL.

Went to meet with a counselor...a guy about 18 years old.

Filled out the questionnaire, and put down that in 1984 I had a gastric stapling, had tried WW, Atkins, etc.

He looked at my information and told me that because I had the gastric stapling 23 years ago I am unable to join LAWL until it has been 25 years!!

I couldn't believe it! I came in on the $249 special that is being advertised right now. And I wonder if he just discriminated against me for that reason.

I need to lose about 70 lbs...

Has anyone heard of such a thing?

I personally don't know if the 25-year-rule is correct, but is there another LAWL center in your area that you can talk to? See if they say the same thing. If not, call another center (not in your area) and find out over the phone if you can join 23 years later. If they say yes, I'd go back and talk to someone else.

WHAT? My mom joined LAWL 2 years after gastric bypass.
