Question Beans... not just a protein?

I have another question that came up in my eating today. I know that the plan says that beans count for a protein, but do you think that I could sub out for a starch? I had a Burrito Bowl (no tortilla) at Baja Fresh today- with chicken and veggies and beans. I had it in my head that the beans counted as my starch (there was about a 1/3 c). Then when I was finished, I double checked the plan and realized that 2 cups of beans counts as a protein. Someone please tell me that I can count 1/3 c. beans as a starch?? I'm not sure I'd want to "waste" my proteins on beans.

Thanks all!!

in my book, a 1/4 cup of baked beans unsweetened is a starch. Not sure how that would relate to the type of beans that you ate.

On the red diet, they are considered a protein...2 cups = 1 protein.

I guess you would just have to figure you went over on protein that day.

Sarah

You're fine, the break down for the Baja Fresh Bowls is 1 Protein and 3 Veggies. It's on my list of emergency sanctioned fast food meals.

Go ahead and relish you have an extra starch still to eat!

Hooray!! When I thought about it more, I realized that there wasn't a full 7 oz. cooked chicken in my bowl anyway - so the extra black beans couldn't hurt. Thanks! (and you're all very quick to respond!)

I am glad that this worked out for you. Being in Canada, we do not have this restaurant you refer to - at least where I am at. Sorry, I was not able to help you - hopefully I didn't lead you astray.
