Exclamation Thai Food Emergency!

(I posted this in the 20-something thread because that is my usual haunt, but I thought you guys might be the experts)

Tomorrow I'm going out to Thai food with my mom for Mother's Day. Usually when I go out I get Pad Thai which is greasy and I always eat too much of it. Does anyone have suggestions of Thai foods that wont kill my diet?

I love Thai soups. Most are broth based (careful of the ones listing coconut milk in them). Some have noodles, which can add up, but I either order a veggie and meat soup, or since the serving bowls are usually so huge, I'll order a noodle soup and eat the broth, veggies, and meat and only some of the noodles.

If you like seafood then try squid salad. That is low calorie as it is just squid, lettuce, herbs, veggies, & the dressing is usually chili, lime juice, and fish sauce.

Another favorite thing of mine to do is just order an appetizer portion as my dinner. I like ordering larb (lettuce wraps) make with tofu. Stay away from the fried appetizers.

Also, the veggie only curries (without coconut milk) are pretty healthy, just go easy on the rice.

Another thing to remember is that Thai food is usually meant to be eaten family style. Most plates are meant to be be split between 2-4 people. Even eating something fatty on occasion is okay if you can limit yourself to a tiny portion.

Good suggestions so far! Definitely stay away from the greasy noodle dishes and too much rice.

You can also order an all vegetable dish for sure or have a shrimp one if you eat that (they tend to use less oil with seafood dishes).

If you like it spicy, ask for the spice tray because typically, the cooks add chili OIL to spice dishes up and you can add the Siracha or ground chilies yourself for more heat.
