Today is the day I should move on to phase 2. I don't know if I want to. I lost 7.5 lbs out of 40 (should probably be 45-50) in 2 wks. I'm not sure if I still have cravings or if evenings are hard for me because my daughter and husband munch all night (both skinny as a rail!). Many times I am hungry an hour or so after a meal. I keep asking myself if it is hunger, the desire to eat, or what. Not sure I know the answer yet. Is my body not ready for phase 2? Also, I fear not losing any more. I especially do not want to add a new carb every day. I'm thinking maybe berries for a week, then brown rice next. Any advice?
I've been on phase 2 about a week now and so far so good. I was also "scared" to start adding carbs/fruit.
If you find yourself "hungry" after you eat or want to snack along with family, I'll tell you what I do. First, I go drink some water and wait about 20 minutes..if I still feel hungry, and I feel like I want something "salty" I drink some V8 juice because it is so filling or I eat some pistachios. Or, if I feel like something sweet, I either go for apples and grapes, cut up in a bowl, or some chocolate milk, or a peanut butter cup, or just the fudgsicle or just a glob of peanut butter with cool whip on it.
I don't eat dinner at night..we eat our big meal of the day around 2, so sometimes "dinner" is a little salad or usually I just don't have "dinner" at all and have some fruit around 6 or so and a "dessert" later on the in the evening. I know that is kind of strange, but my work schedule is also kind of strange and it's what works for me.
I don't weigh myself so don't know how much I have lost other that what my clothes tell me. The pants I have on right now are looser than they were last week when I wore them, so that tells me I'm still losing.
Very good advice, femmecreole! Silverqueen, I think all of us are scared we are going to stop losing weight as we go into Phase 2, but if you approach it cautiously, you should still manage to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week, which is the healthy way to lose. There is an excellent sticky in the FAQ section about making the transition to Phase 2, check it out, and good luck to you!
I am been in phase two since February and have lost steadily atleast 1/2 lb a week sometimes 2 lbs a week. I followed everyone adviced and slowly added one whole grain and one fruit a week. To be honest the only fruit I added is Strawberries and I had blueberries one week, but I love strawberries so I just stick with that since I will only eat one serving, I have been able to add three servings of whole grains a day and still lose weight each week. Hope that helps.
You are eating 3 serving of grain and 1 serving of fruit every day? And still losing? That's amazing. What is the portion size for your grain servings?
Depends on the day, but a serving for me is 1/2 cup of whole grain cereals, 1/2 cup of pasta, 1 slice of whole grain bread or 1 whole wheat wrap. Like that, but I don't always have three servings a day. I think for me what is really helping me lose weight is using low GI foods, eating whole grains and using sf desserts. I do workout 6 days a week as well, but I was doing that before SB and did not lose anything and following lc diet and the scale was moving up before I moved to SB. Slow and Steady but it is coming off. Hope that helps
I know I added carbs back in more quickly than many other posters - more than one variety of each in week 1 of Phase 2 and more than one of each per day (oatmeal at breakfast, apple at lunch, wild rice at dinner). I have still lost weight. I have tried to make healthy choices and feel that if the food is allowed then I am fine to eat it (yes, in moderation). I still get in my veggies and lean meats, but I began the diet knowing I could add fruit and grains, as I feel they are important to a well balanced diet.
Add things in as slowly as you need, but I firmly believe adding in "good" foods and eating helthfully will keep you on the weight loss track!
