Default Confused about Mayo...

My fiance and I started the SBD on April 29th. So far so good minus one dumb moment where I ate fake crab assuming it was SBD friendly before reading the ingredients. And I would just like to say it is completely unfair that men lose weight faster than women! But I am confused about mayo and I know some of you very knowledgeable beachers can help me out! I know we are allowed a little bit of mayo, but I can't figure out which one! When I look on the nutritional label, for a serving size, it says 0 g of sugars, but when I read the ingredient listing, sugar is an additive. Are we still allowed the mayo because the sugar is such a small amount in a proper portion size? Thanks for your help!

to the Beach, LauP1!

You may have any brand of mayonnaise, just as long as it contains less than 3 grams of sugar, and most of them do. The tiny amount of sugar that is in it is insignificant and won't affect your diet. But keep in mind that mayonnaise is high in calories and fat, so enjoy it in moderation.

I make all my own salad dressing as I find the preservatives in most store bought bother me, sometime I like to put in a tsp of mayo, so this is great to know. Thanks for the info!

would you mind sharing your recipe ideas for dressing? I'd like to start making my dressings as well.

Sure Adriana, thanks for asking! I made this great salmon salad with a mustard dill dressing. I have this little gizmo that you put all of your dressing ingredients into and then it has a stirrer in it, and you store the rest of it in the bottle in the fridge. But you could use any jar with a tight lid and just shake it like crazy...

Dressing:
Minced fresh dill (several sprigs, finely minced)
Lemon juice (2 tbsp)
Dijon mustard (2 tbsp)
Mayo (2 tbsp)
Salt and pepper
Red wine vinegar (1-2 tbsp)
Extra virgin olive oil (3 tbsp)

Mix all ingredients together well.

Salad:
Mixed greens
Peeled seeded tomato, chopped
Cucumber
Celery
Chopped capers (optional, or you can add it to the dressing instead)
Avocado
Chopped walnuts
Chickpeas
..And of course leftover fresh cooked salmon.

Enjoy!

Carey

I have been using Hellman's....I think it is called something else in other places...it is the real mayo made from eggs and I recognized all of the ingredients. I had always been a Miracle Whip girl until I read the label.

Oh that dressing sounds great!

BTW 'fake crab' or imitation crab is allowed as per Dr. A. I don't have the citation but we eat it all the time.

as for Mayo if you have a trader joes we use their mayo it's got no sugars added.
