Hi, y'all. I'm new here and I'm desperate to start exercising daily. The only aerobic activity I enjoy and can see myself doing consistently, however, is dancing. So I'm on a mission to find some good dance-based workout dvds.
What are your favorites?
I keep reading about Turbo Jam here, but I thought that was kick boxing. Am I wrong?
For those of you who've tried the Hip Hop Abs: Does it feel like dancing or just a lot of standing crunches?
I love my Sweating to the Oldies videos with *Richard Simmons*! Some people don't like him, he's a bit over the top. But the moves are not complicated, the music is retro, the dance routines are fun and it works me hard. I actually lose track of the time and an hour goes by before I know it. I've had the tapes for years but I know you can still get some through amazon.com.
Find something you like and have fun! Good luck!
I also have many Richard Simmon's tapes. My favorite are the Broadway series, and Supersweatin': Party Off the Pounds. He's cheesy, but the moves are easy, and they're fun. The music is fun. I find myself singing along with the songs. They definately get me sweating. Currently, I'm also addicted to the Yoga Booty Ballet series. I love the Cardio Cabaret, and the Hip Hop Abs routine. I also have a couple of the Crunch series. They're okay, but it feels more like a workout instead of dancing to me. Where YBB, and Richard Simmons almost feel like a dance class, at least to me. I get bored easily, so I have lot's of choices and I'm always looking for more.
I've never tried the new Hip Hop Abs series. They look like fun, but I've thought the same thing, is it dancing or just stand-up crunches?
I also find dance videos the most likely way to keep me exercising everyday. I have Crunch Fat Burning Dance Party and YBB (the YBB "Live" are the fun dance ones). I also got the Turbo Jam thinking they were more dance, but you are right; they are a lot of kicking and punching, with encouragement to wiggle your hips and have fun with it as you go kind of thing. I also got the Carmen Electra Striptease Aerobics series, which I rarely use. They're more learning dances then keep-your-heart-rate-up aerobics, and the last two or three only teach you one dance. The second one I actually use as it is a workout--but no dancing involved
Hth!
It's only available on VHS, but "MTV Grind Workout - Fat Burning Grooves" is definitely the best ands most fun I've ever tried. I don't enjoy the salsa and cha-cha dance videos, so this was great, with a real choreography
I just bought the Dancing with The Stars DVD, and I love it! It's really hard, but it's fun because it's actual dancing! I also like the Carmen Electra DVD's but you have to do the routine a couple times to get a workout. I also have some of the Crunch ones, but they are more work out than dancing.
