Hi all! I'm just popping in from the South Beach threads to say that I also am nursing and following the South Beach principles. Because my nursling was nearly one year old when I decided to try the program, I did do Phase 1 but I've heard that if your baby is young you should just jump in at Phase 2 because the dietary restrictions on Phase 1 can cause your milk supply to drop. I didn't notice any difference, but again my baby is older and my supply well established, and she is only nursing three or four times a day now. I've lost eight pounds so far, ten more to my goal. I am a vegetarian and have always tried to eat whole grains and lots of vegetables and fruits. I guess my diet plan before was to follow the Food Guide Pyramid's recommendations. However, I had an insatiable sweet tooth, which was my downfall in any weight loss attempt, and the South Beach eating has really helped me keep that in check. My cravings are gone, and although I still would *like to* eat sweets, I don't obsess about it any more.
I was a little concerned about the artificial sweeteners so I just avoid them as much as I can. If a recipe can be made without the sweetener at all, I just eliminate it, and if I'm cooking for the kids I don't use artificial sweeteners either.
Hope that helps!
