Default Starting tomorrow....have some questions

Hi--

I decided to try SB, and start tomorrow. I joined SB Online to get meal plans and recipes. I hope it will help me be successful to have someone else tell me what to eat. Otherwise I will eat the same thing all the time and get bored.

I don't drink milk and don't like artificial sweeteners, so yogurt is out, too. Do I have to drink milk? Can I substitute something else?

I found reduced fat and light mayonnaise today. The light did not tell how much sugar was in it, but the reduced fat said <1 gram. So I bought the reduced fat. Is that ok?

Also, don't like fat free dairy products like sour cream and ricotta cheese, so I bought low fat. Is that ok?

Also saw peanut butter in a few places. I don't like it, but like almond butter. Can that be substituted for peanut butter?

Thanks!

SilverQueen

Silver!

Hon, have you read the book? You REALLY need to read it before you start. Honestly. Phase 1 is really restrictive and if you mess up even a little bit, you have to start over. It's not worth it to start when you aren't ready. With so many questions (not that it's bad to have questions...please tell us if you do!), I think it'd be better if you wait a bit until you start. You can try to change your eating habits for the better, more towards SBD, in the meantime and read the book. If you can't afford it, borrow it from the library or a friend. Make sure you read the updated Phase 1 list because it shows the latest changes (the books' lists are outdated, though the paperback list is better).

Yogurt and milk have something in them that helps shrink belly fat, as long as you have three servings a day. Maybe you could learn to like one of them with something in them? You could make a smoothie with yogurt and milk and protein powder with some frozen berries in P2 or with SF syrup in P1. I hated all veggies when I started SBD, but I taught myself to like them because I was really committed to this WOE and getting healthy.

Yes, you can substitute almond butter for peanut butter as long as it's natural. Almonds have vitamin E, which is really helpful. Don't forget you can have regular nuts in place of the nut butters...just make sure it's only one serving per day.

Wow! I never heard that and I really need to lose a ton of belly fat! I guess I better start getting that third cup of dairy in each day! Thank you beachgal!

Hi SilverQueen! I'm not a big milk fan myself and generally get my dairy in by adding milk to my coffee and by making hot chocolate by adding cocoa powder, splenda, vanilla and a dash of cinnamon (although if you avoid artificial sweeteners you might not go for the splenda). I'm sure others will have plenty of suggestions for you!

Beachgal--
No, I don't have the book yet! I went shopping today and forgot to get it, even tho I got a bunch of groceries to start. I will get it tomorrow. I can probably drink skim milk if it is ice cold. I would for sure do that to shrink my belly!

Carynm--Thanks for the tip. You gave me tha idea that dairy will be easier when I can have fruit, I could make a smoothie without sugar and be happy.

SilverQueen- I al NOT a milk fan either. The only way I ever used milk was in cereal and that's OUT. I am w/ Caryn on this, I make hot chocolate at night w/ hersheys cocoa and splenda- I've heard they have a special dark cocoa now, but I haven't been able to find it, I bet thats' yummier. and I got hersheys SF syrup for cold chocolate milk. This is also the only FF dairy I use. The rest is all 2%
As for the Yogurt, I had a drill seargent in Basic Training try to force me to eat it at breakfast (they told the girls to eat it so they didn't get yeast infections) and I told her that I would only eat it if she stood "..right there" so that WHEN I threw up it would make it onto her boots. I did some pushups, but I never ate the yogurt!!!! So I totally feel you. I lost about 25 pounds on SBD before my wedding in 05 and never ate yogurt or anykind of desert made w/ Ricotta cheese. Ricotta is for pasta- not for desert in my book. just like cream cheese is for bagels NOT cakes or icing. blech!!!! You just gotta substitute the stuff you like that works w/ the diet.
You don't HAVE to eat anything you don't like.
Best of Luck- Hope to see you at the P1 board, I'll be stickin' around for a little longer.

Tifani--I love that Army story! You are such a BAD "A"!!! I always wanted to join the army and my parents wouldn't let me.

I took the ASVAB test twice and my senior year in HS I scored the highest score of any female in the state of WV. Needless to say every branch of the armed services was hot after me after that.

This one time a Marine recruiter called and said, "Hello this is Sgt. Blah Blah Blah, I am looking Michael Cook, we're looking for a few good men."

I replied..."I am Michael Cook and if you find them will you send them my way!"

hahahahhahahah
