Hello Everyone,

I have a problem. I decided to start SB in February. It lasted a few weeks and then I wanted something bread-like, so I switched to a plan that allowed bread. Then I went back to SB when I didn't see the weight loss results as fast. Then it was Easter and there was chocolate, so all healthy eating went out the window. And so on, and so on...

Now I can't decide if I should follow SB, or what my dietitian recommended (Canada Food Guide only smaller portions). I know I need to lose, I look at myself in the mirror in disgust, but I can't commit and my willpower is shot.

So here is what I ask: How did you decide to stay on SB? How do you stay away from bad food? Do you ever have bad days with eating? How long have you been trying? Any advice?

I am asking for support so that I commit to something I really want to do, and need to do.. Help me, please!!!

Personally I don't feel like I am giving anything up. I make my own pizza with ww flour and I make my own desserts. Occassionally I will eat something that I want like nachos, but I just eat on plan...you can make anything you want to.

The Canada Food Plan is just fine - you can do South Beach really easily by following it once you are in Phase II. Your dietician should approve of that Phase.

1. How did you decide to stay on SB? It just seems a sensible way of eating.
2. How do you stay away from bad food? I try to avoid having it in the house and chose carefully when I am out to eat. I do allow myself something way off plan the odd time.
3. Do you ever have bad days with eating? Certainly!
4. How long have you been trying? Years but got out of the habit and back to drinking too much wine with meals.
5. Any advice? Don't start unless you are ready to commit to Phase I and add things very carefully when you get to Phase II.

I hope this helps.

my other option was death. SBD is so easy for me.

if by bad food you mean bread... bread is allowed on SBD in phase 2. I just don't like it so I rarely eat it. Sugar? I don't want it. I don't eat it.

I like salad. I like salmon. I like chicken. I have learned to love greek yogurt. I like strawberries and bananas and carrots and hummus. I guess that's WHY it's easy for me. I Like the food allowed.

of course. I would not be human if I did not. when I have a bad meal or snack, I just make sure the next one is better. and when I found that i was stringing day after day of ONE bad thing together, I went back to phase one (after nearly a year on the beach) and got all tight again with how i'm supposed to be eating.

I started SBD on May 1, 2006. I've lost nearly 50 pounds. My husband has lost about 80. I have about 100 more to go. But i'm not trying. I'm doing. ONE day at a time.

Any advice?
be kind to yourself
just keep restarting every day
get all the junk out of the house
cook in advance
plan your foods

accept that it takes 3-6 months of doing full phase 2 before you feel like it's a lifestyle change. it will happen.

Thank you for all your help and advice. I have started today and am looking at this lifestyle change as a positive for me. I also ate all the chocolate in the house last night, so there should be nothing tempting there when I get home.

Yeah, that probably wasn't the best idea, but it tasted good...
