Well, can I assume we all survived dreaded Friday the Thirteenth OK? I ended up going out for fish and chips with friends and paid for it with tummy problems but that was before midnight. I never have chips but the fish was really good. Sorry! Food porn!
Today I may see the sun at long last. The deck is dry and it's not raining. All's right with the world. I'm trying hard not to think of the prediction for the rest of the weekend and next week. I'll just enjoy the moment.
This morning I have to make a rhubarb cake for after Church tomorrow. I'm considering cheating and using a mix because there are other things I want to do. My house is clean, the taxes are done, the Church bulletin is written, printed and assembled so I can now choose how to fill the day. I love days like this. Tomorrow is another story so I intend to enjoy this easy day!
What's happening in your world? It's so nice to see so many people posting in our daily!
This just in from the Delta..... mayhem broke out in the Church as they learnt the Delta's Grand Dame BAKED A BOX CAKE...The town is AGASP! Do it Ruth You deserve some more of that Me time!
Cawfee is a brewin, and my pencil is sharpened for more homework.... DH and I may take in a movie and dinner later today... other than that
Good Morning! The sun is shining here, too, and the weather predictions for the rest of the weekend are pretty dismal, but we'll just enjoy the day. I slept in until 7 today, after tossing and turning all night long. I was going to get up at 6, but then drifted off and slept better than I did all night. Jake looked at me funny when I came downstairs, he was ready to go check on me, I never sleep in that late.
We're going to run out and do a little grocery shopping, then come home and walk around the yard to decide what our gardening plans are going to be this year. I'm just itching to be puttering around in the garden! I don't know what the kids' plans are for today. If Monica wants to come out, it'll be today since the weather is going to be awful tomorrow. DS and my DIL will most likely stop in at some point. Since tomorrow will be a stay-at-home day, I plan to cook several make-ahead meals for the week, and I want to try that new recipe of Beachgal's, the Lentil Cookies. They sound really interesting.
Ruth, Yum, I love rhubarb and anything made with it! My mother makes the best rhubarb custard pie, everyone raves about it. It's definitely not OP, but I can't pass it up. Sounds like you have a pleasant day planned, enjoy.
Schatzi, you've shamed me into it. I will make the cake from scratch. My reputation is at stake here!
Cottage, enjoy the sunshine today. Let's ignore the rest of the weather for a while. You must have really needed that lie-in!
The Girls are dozing on the couch, the wee finches are at the feeder now that I've fixed it so the damned grackles can't empty it overnight and I am going for a soak in the bath until my knee meds kick in. A great and sunny Saturday is underway!
Good morning, all. I've got the coffee, but haven't mustered the energy to actually cook breakfast yet. Think I'll do scrambled eggs with spinach & onion. Yum! We woke up to 2" of snow on the ground. Kansas is NOT supposed to have snow after Easter!!! This is crazy. I'm supposed to be working in the garage this weekend getting stuff pulled out to take to my sister's garage sale next weekend. It's too darn cold to be out there!! I have a date tonight. Guess I'll have to change my outfit plans...was going to wear a nice springy dress. That's not going to happen!
Ruth - Don't do it!! Boxed cakes are the debil. Not really. My mom sold decorated cakes for many years, and Duncan Hines was her best friend. Everyone always commented that her cakes were so moist and yummy. Little did they know...
Schatzi - Enjoy your date with hubby.
cottage - Sounds like you have a full weekend planned. Have fun!!
I am so glad the weekend is FINALLY here! It seems like the week just went on and on.
Ruth I say go for the box mix!!! Then you can chill and enjoy your day.
Cottage and Jet Our weather is all crazy here as well. Last weekend was super cold and it looks like this one is going to be chilly and rainy. We have a birthday party this afternoon that was supposed to be at a park making kites. It looks like plan B which is at their house.
Schatzi Have a fun date with DH!!
Me- Well, it looks like I am going to have to go back to Phase 1 if I am going to get control. I am starting that today. I was going to wait until Monday, but how many times have I tried that before?? I have just gotten myself to a point where I need to get back to the basics and start from scratch. I have gained back too much this school year and it is time to get it under control!
Other news is that I am going back into the classroom to teach next year. This position this year has definitely afforded me flexibility that I haven't had in the past, but I really miss the day to day teaching and connection with the kids. I will be teaching 4th grade and will be the team leader. The team is in a bit of disarray, so that will be a challenge. Even more of a challenge is that I am not sure they realize they aren't functioning well. I have also decided that Abigail is going to come to kindergarten at my school. I never thought I would want that, but after teaching for so long (16 years!!) I want to see her first year of school in action. Plus, we have an AMAZING kindergarten team, so she will be in great hands!
Okay, I need to look up some recipes and get a grocery list together to get this Phase 1 off to a good start. I should have enjoyed my glass of Merlot a bit more last night as I just decided to hit Phase 1 again this morning.
I've got a lot to do but I wanted to post and let everyone know that I'm fine and didn't get any major damage from the storms last night. We may some some roof damage from the hail but it was only nickel sized at my house. The airport got baseball sized hail.
DH and Brian were in the car on their way to a train show setup southeast of Dallas so I kept them posted on where the tornadoes were. Luckily the last touchdown was north of where they were so they were fine. I spent most of the night glued to the TV. I'm not used to hearing tornado sirens. Right now it looks like one person dead and five injured. Many homes have major damage, One church is missing it's entire roof and one wall. I heard one couple talk of being in their pickup when the tornado lifted their truck and threw it into another vehicle. THey got out and ran into a grocery store but the tornado followed and tore the roof off the grocery store. Anyway, it was a blessing that it wasn't much much worse.
Many of my friends were camping at Camp Cherokee last night when the storms passed over. I THINK they only got severe winds and rain but I'll be heading out to the camp tomorrow to set up for Wood Badge so I will find out.
Good heavens! I didn't realize Texas was getting that kind of weather! I'll count my blessings and stop crabbing about our weather.
So much for peace and quiet! Two cop cars just pulled into the lane and are going to search my barn! Apparently one of Delta's Doltish Drunks crashed his car up the highway a bit last night and fled the scene of the accident! John P. is quite the lad but I'm pretty sure he knows better than to hide in my barn. I didn't ask if they had a warrant!
Such excitement for a Saturday morning! See y'all later. I'll let you know if there's a shoot-out. Right now I'm listening to see if the cops shout "Clear!" like they do on CSI!
Goodness gracious, Ruth!! What a start to the weekend. I hope they didn't find anything/anyone in your barn.
Kiko - I'm with you! I'm having the hardest time sticking with my program. I think that I've started P1 3 times in the last 2 weeks. One of these days it's going to stick!
Think I'm going to head to the basement to scrounge the freezer for chicken. If I have any, it's to the kitchen to do some cooking.
Oh My Goodness all this excitement this early in the Day...
Barb0522 glad everyone is ok.. My son and 3 of my grandbabies live in Wichita Falls, and they called and was heading for the cellar...Thank goodness all they got was hard rain, He said right down the street was baseball size hail. All are ok.
Ruthxxx My MIL favorite saying is "I scratched it right out of the box" and she makes great cakes....Are we going to see you on COPS????
Hope all chicks have a great day..I am just sitting around, waiting, it is raining here, in IN, hopefully will quit so I can get out of this truck and at least walk. Maybe can get hubby to go hunt for a Wally-World..Now I can walk around in there.....
Ruth, my goodness, hiding criminals in your barn! Seriously, though, is everything alright? I hope the guy had more sense than to seek refuge at your place, doesn't he know you'll come after him with the Chicken Purse? Let us know how this ends, OK?
Kiko, Barb and txshortfuse, I'm glad you and your families are all just fine after those terrible storms! I saw coverage of it on the Weather Channel, and it looked pretty scary. Jake has a brother who lives in Grand Prairie, I'm wondering how they made out?
Jet, I just heard we may have snow on Monday, what's with this crazy weather, anyway? Have a good time on your date tonight!
Jake treated me to a breakfast buffet this morning at a Pennsylvania Dutch Smorgasbord restaurant, where I overindulged in bacon and had a peanutbutter chocolate chip pancake among other things. So I'm skipping lunch (not hungry!) and having a chicken breast and grilled peppers for supper. At least I stocked up on a lot of healthy foods in the grocery store afterwards, and I'm contemplating doing a few days of Phase 1, too. We stopped at a nursery on the way home and picked up a flat of pansies for the ceramic pots on the front steps. I'm tempted to plant them today, but with the wicked weather headed our way, I guess I should wait a few days. They sure do look cheerful with their smiling little faces!
Tornato alerts, drunken barn invaders, peanutbutter chocolate chip pancakes oh my--I think this bunch is too wild for me HEE HEE. This forum is better than reading any of those RAGS on the newstand.
Here's my big news:
#1 I can fit into my DD size 17 jr's shorts.
#2 I can new hold my own body weight on the exersize machine long enough to lift my knees to my chest five times before dropping like a rag doll to the ground.
As far a Ph1 goes. I do great one day and the next day I seem to be on PH10, then start over the next day and do good then go to PH11. You would think with vacation being only 9 weeks away I'd get my buns in gear. Hopefully by the end of the month I can report a weight loss. Oh why is food such a tempatation.
I love pansies but there are none around yet up here.
They didn't find John yet. He wasn't in my barn. Nice polite and friendly cops but soooo young! The latest word in the Village is that he was driving without a licence (suspended for DWI) and may have taken off for the States in his girl friend's car rather than face the music. I hope the guards at the border check him out and nab him but I'm sure he's long gone. We are only a half hour from the bridge to the States and he probably was outta here before the cops even discovered the crash. It happened at night and wasn't noticed for a while. Knowing John, he probably sat in the car and finished his bottle before fleeing!
The cake is done and smells just wonderful! I hope it turned out OK - I've never made it with frozen rhubarb. No, I will not be eating any of it! I didn't even taste the batter!
Time for a cup of tea and a browse through Lee Valley Gardening catalogue. Maybe I can find a big burly hunk of a yard man in there. I'll go to visit H. after Church tomorrow as it's too late in the day now. Supper at the nursing home is at 5 and after that folks start getting organized for bed so......
Ruth You were posting the same time I was. Glad to hear that all was clear in your barn. I never had rhubarb cake before. My Mom bought some when I was a little girl. I thought it was funny looking celery and would not even try any or anything made with it.
