Unhappy venting and upset with myself

hey ladies,

This is a non weight thing, but weight does come into play. I really messed up and go dropped from one of my classes. Now i have to have straight A's in my Biology and Chem classes so i hopefully dont screw up my financial aid classes. I put way to much stuff off. I put off going to the gym. I put off going to my math class and i got dropped because of it. I dont know why i do this to myself. i dont know what to do to change it. Now i'm so angry with myself i'm going to start making myself get my *** up in the morning and going to work out. Maybe if i start off doing that early in the AM i'll get myself moving...i dont know. any advice at all??

I work out in the morning and it completely changed my days because I get up and do it for myself - not as a way to maintain because of something I ate that day. That way the rest of the day I remember that I got up and worked out so I dont want to negate that effort by eating lots of calorie-laden treats.

I also wanted to say that I think you might be at the point where you know that you could have done better with your studies (you can't change that now). All you can do is do your best from this point on. Positive thinking may help you to turn things around. You can get through this and you will. Everyone makes mistakes. You have realized where you could improve so now all you have to do is make positive changes.

You can succeed.

I know how you feel. I get mad at myself for putting things off at work. Some days I have a hard time concentrating and would rather surf the net than do any work, then I get mad at myself for doing that and putting things off and just creating more work in less amount of time to get finished. What I have found helps me in that situation is to set really small goals, like "ok I'm going to finish writing this section (I'm a technical writer) and then I can take a 10 minute break." I find the more I get done, the more accomplished I feel and it helps me to keep going. Maybe you could do the same with school work? I also use this practice at home when I need to clean the house - "I'll clean the bathroom and then I can watch a show for 30 minutes" or something like that.

I say what's done is done. Learn from your mistakes with your studies and just try, try, try to get to class and do good in your classes. But don't dwell on it, because you'll only end up making yourself feel worse.

As for the working out in the am, I personally think it is hard. That's why I haven't succeeded at working out because I always put it off to the morning and I know I will not be waking up at 5am to get my butt to the gym. I say you set a time that you know you can actually get your workout in and do it then. Doesn't have to be in the am, just as long as you get something in.

I completely agree with Rosario. Just keep a positive mindset and things will workout fine.

I am saying this to myself a lot since morning when i realized that 1.5 weeks of exercise and ended up as almost 2 lbs in my weight this is soooo soooooo very depressing... i dont know where i went wrong....

Has anyone faced the same problems????

It might be worth it to go to your schools counseling center (if they have one, its usually free or pretty cheap) and talk to a professional. They might be able to help you sort out some of your motivational problems.

I was in that situation last year. Total burnout. Maybe take it one thing at a time? I went into a major funk and my grades suffered tremendously. Try not to put so many things on your plate, or at least re-arrange them. If you can salvage the semester, then focus on that. With me, getting back on track (emotionally, physically, and academically) required some major decisions and me slowly piecing everything back together, taking away as many distractions I could find. I even quit my job! And I second talking to a counselor at school as well as an academic advisor. Just talking to someone who knows the ropes and can give you some options migh help take some of that heavy load off.

Also, you said you were so angry with yourself you were going to start getting up early to workout. Can advise to nix that? Putting a negative spin or adding the punishment factor to something that is supposed to make you feel better will only add to the stress if you don't happen to make it to the gym. For me that just digs the hole even deeper.
