Bad news...I've been working hard and haven't seen any real results. I've lost about 3 pounds in 2 weeks...whats the deal! Should i beef up my workouts and eat even less food. Maybe im not noticing because i've gained muscle. I lift weights everyday (alternating between upper and lower body of course)...whats the problem??? please help!
Actually, 3 lbs in two weeks is an excellent rate of weight loss. The most I ever lost in a week was 1 lb. Any where from 1 to 2 lbs per week is considered great! You didn't gain your weight overnight and you aren't going to lose it overnight either. You are also far more likely to be able to maintain your weight loss if you lose the weight slowly. So I'm not sure you should really expect to lose more than that per week. It's sounds to me like you are doing great and should just keep on with what you've been doing for the past two weeks.
Patience, patience! 3 pounds in 2 weeks sounds like you're doing something just about exactly right. Heck, I've lost 6 pounds in ... let's see... about 2 MONTHS!! I've just had to make myself OK with the fact that this is going to be a long process, but I'm trying to only make changes that I know I can live with on a permanent basis.
Those are good results! Sad, but true. Healthy weight loss takes a while. The good news is, the time passes anyway, so you might as well be losing weight.
Sorry to be repetetive, but 3 pounds in 2 weeks is GREAT! You're heading in the right direction, and you're doing so at a healthy and sensible pace. 3 pounds may not sound like a lot, but wouldn't you be upset if you GAINED 3 pounds? I bet then, you'd think 3 pounds was a LOT!
Most of us seem to be experts in blowing our setbacks out of proportion and never being satisfied with our successes. It's these mind games that make weight loss so difficult.
3 pounds in two weeks is a healthy amount. You are way too impatient. Successful weight loss and maintenance takes time - you have to learn a whole new way of eating and get past your bad eating habits forever.
I am having the same issue. I had this number "4" in my head for the weigh-in and when it was less than I hoped, I was disappointed! I wish I could cut out the negative self-talk and just embrace the slow loss. My brain keeps saying things like, it's not even working anyway...might as well go to DQ for some onion rings LIke that's going to help...
But yeah I guess it's partly because at least for me, I was so sedentary and ate so much unhealthy crap before, that with the lower cal, clean eating, AND the exercising, I expect weight just to fall off..fast..But Jillybean, you are right. A gain of 3 would be bad, and a "big" gain, so a loss of 3 should be considered a big loss as well..lol and any loss is a happy loss..lol
You'll see lots of people losing huge amounts every week for various reasons, and that makes us all want to see those numbers on our own scales. But I think one of the things that make for a successful weight loss journey is to really be ok with seeing one pound losses each week. If you're ok with one pound, you'll be thrilled with two, and the ones that are over two will make you ecstatic. I accepted a long time ago that my body wants to go down 1-2 pounds a week, and that's been consistent. You'll be surprised how quickly those numbers add up. At times it felt like forever, but now I'm 82 pounds lighter. It will happen -- just keep working at it and be happy with the direction in which your scale is moving!
Here's another perspective: 3 pounds may not seem like much now, but if you do it again you'll be up to 6! Then 9! Etc, etc, until one day you'll step on that scale and see the number you've always known you could be.
Keep up the great work! 3 lb is awesome, especially because you probably are growing your muscles. The time is going to pass soon enough, and the results will get more and more noticeable. I'm noticing that it's like a snowball effect with my own weight loss...at first, it was discouraging ("I feel so much healthier! Why doesn't the scale agree?"), but things just keep adding up the longer I do this.
Yeah, don't want to echo everyone but 3 lbs in 2 weeks is a healthy rate of rate loss, and I think you'll just need to wait a while until you see "real" results... or at least the results you want to see...
I think that we see The Biggest Loser program with contestants losing 6, 10, even 20 pounds from weigh-in to weigh-in and it makes us feel like we aren't doing enough. I'm not sure HOW those people accomplish the weight loss numbers that they do or whether we are seeing one week's loss or MORE than one week's loss.
As others have said, three pounds is GREAT, and congratulations for coming up with a plan that is obviously working for you!
