Here are some thoughts: find out the name of the restaurant and check on line to see if they have a menu posted. Compare the items to the helpful sticky info here and in the FAQ section . This will help you plan ahead of time.
Things you want to stay away from are the items made with coconut milk, and the rice noodles, deep fried items, things made with flour. You could ask that your veggies be steamed instead of stir fry.. if they stir fry with garlic oil or olive oil, that should be "okay" . Ask what is in the sauces. Plum sauce should be okay for phase 2. Tofu and bean sprouts are good. You may not be able to control of the ingredients or cooking methods but you can limit the "damage" but the most important thing is that you are "conscious" of your choices...and mostly you enjoy the company of good friends and the celebration
