Unhappy Hi! I'm new and need encouragment!

HI ladies. I am new, kind of. I have "lurked" here several times over the years. I have also been to WW several times over the years; sometimes with much success and sometimes a total waste of money. I am now at my highest weight ever, even counting two pregnancies! I am totally depressed, I have no energy or motivation. I really enjoy the support and encouragement on this site, so I decided to join officially and try again and lose the weight for good. Any advice for someone who is not sure how to "dive in" again?

Hi There,
Like you, I have also been down because of my weight issues I had 3 children but the youngest is now 16 so I can't blame my weight on baby fat anymore. But I got just plain tired of waiting for a magic wand or pill to make my life better. I decided to do it myself. I read a lot of books on the subject, and spoke to my doctor(because I have developed type 1 diabeties and high blood pressure due wholly to my overeating and weight) and found that for me the sonoma diet made sense and so far I have lost 22 pounds in about 6 weeks.
I find myself getting more excited as the time goes on instead of wanting to quit, as I did on countless other diets. The exersize has become fun (this took a while) and the planning and cooking of meals has become a source of pride, I look and feel better than I have in years, you can do this too!!!
It is hard to make changes that remove you from your comfort zone, but it can be done. The foods you make for yourself and your family are healthier for them as well.
Good luck!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I know nothing about the Sonoma Diet but I am interested! Is it a low carb plan?

Well, yes and no!! The Sonoma diet is really about eating well and by that I mean whole grains, fresh fruit and vegs, and lean meats. The first 10 days (called wave 1)are alittle tough, during this time you are training your body to not crave the sugars and junk you have been feeding it.
something I really like about the sonoma is no counting of calories or measuring of portions, yes there are guidelines to amounts that you eat (called the sonoma plate and bowl, not something you need to buy) but no getting out the measuring cups to see if you have to much food!
Oh, and if you are a wine drinker, on the sonoma you are allowed to have a glass of wine with dinner. you are encoraged to relax and take your time, and turn your dining into an event.
for me it has really been a godsend. If you are intrested the books are "The Sonoma Diet" by Dr. Connie Guttersen, RD.,PHD.and "The Sonoma Diet Cookbook" also by Dr. Guttersen. Don't be discoraged by my discription, Please read for yourself. After seeing my doctor and getting the O.K. I have never looked back- and its working!!!

Wow! Thanks for the great advice ladies! Today I recorded my food in my journal, went for a walk and drank a lot of water! I also set mini goals so I wouldn't feel so overwhelmed! You are right, motivation is the key.... and the right mind set. I am going to get The Sonoma Diet book, I love wine , and give it a try! Thanks for the idea notfatjustfluffy! What is the name of the meditation book, BooBear2071? Have a great Monday!
