Default Newbie Brit.

I have been a lurker on these boards now for several weeks, and finally i have plucked up the courage to join you on our weight loss journey.

I have been over weight for many years but my weight really got out of control after been dx with MS some 8 years ago. I hit the food for comfort big time.

I then gave up smoking 5 nearly 6 years ago and that piles more pounds on. But i have figured that if i can conquer the evil weed then i can get my weight to a more normal level.

Since I started in earnest I have lost 10lb in total and 2lb this week. I am not following any particular diet but I am cutting out junk foods and having more fresh fruit and vegetables in my diet. So overall i am just eating healthy.

Exercise is difficult due to the fatigue that MS has but i excerise when I can and except that there are days that i just can't as my body won't let me.

Thanks for being a listening ear all. Look forward to joining you on the boards

Hi purpleorc!

Welcome to the site!

I have two friends with MS. One refuses to exercise at all, and the other began training in martial arts and has her own academy now as a second degree Black Belt! I known that there are MANY stages and many ups and downs with MS. I also know that every person reacts differently to it. It can't hurt to eat well, to add some exercise which will make you stronger, and to keep a positive frame of mind. My first friend gave into the disease, and my second friend chose to battle it with punches and kicks! She feels GREAT most of the time and credits the mental as well as physical toughness that comes with martial arts training as a real saving grace for her.

Thank you Cheryl14. For your kind reply.

Yes I agree whole heartedly that I will not give into the disease. I will go kicking and screaming lol

I have found out over the years that I may not be able to do a task the conventional way but I find a way of doing it. Just very occasionally I have to admit that I am not going to be able to do that today but maybe tomorrow I can.

I figure that my determination that i have that i maybe able to channel into being able to lose the weight that i want to.

Hi again, purpleorc!

I thought of something else! My future daughter-in-law has Celiac Disease which also is an auto-immune disorder like MS is. She has done a lot of research about organic products. Organic foods are grown without pesticides, and by also watching out for foods that have artificial colors and flavorings, you can help boost your immune system and rid yourself of the free radicals which can cause damage to the cells of the body. She feels so much better since she went gluten-free! She eats a lot of fish that is rich in Omega 3s also. Flax seed is good for this as well.

Good Luck!

Cheryl

Thanks for the information Cheryl17 regarding auto immune diseases and maybe choosing to cut certain things out my diet which could be beneficial. In the past 18 month or so I have had another auto immune disease quite a rare one according to the doctors. I think I will look into what the information out there says and what best fits into my life.

It is certainly food for thought excuse the pun. Anything that makes life easier and maybe alleviates symptoms must be a good thing.

Hi there! Thanks for the kind letter welcoming me. I think you're very right, when losing and stalling, sometimes inches are going if the scale isn't. It's part of why I thought I had lost more than five pounds, but hadn't. I don't weigh often, and maybe I should.
I think it's wonderful that you've lost 37 pounds! When you stop to think about how heavy even one pound is, isn't it amazing that you've lost 37 of them???!!! Try carrying around a five or ten pound bag of anything for ten minutes...then pat yourself on the back that you've lost multiples of those!
Keep doing what you're doing! I'm proud of you.
