My doctor called with the results of the bloodwork from my physical. There are good parts and bad parts. My glucose levels went up to 9 which is not surprising. He wants me to continue with the metformin, which I've already started doing again. My cholesterol was 102 for LDL and 52 for HDL. He says ideally the LDL should be under 100 for diabetes and the the HDL was fine. Don't know how I lucked out with the cholesterol levels with the way I eat. Hopefully losing weight will lower my glucose levels enough and maybe bring down the LDL levels too.
The other thing he told me was that my liver levels were elevated or came back abnormal, can't remember which. He is banking on Fatty Liver, seeing as how overweight I am and the diabetes. He doesn't think it's Hep C but on my appt in June he will do whatever dianostic test he needs to then. I looked up Hep C and it wasn't pleasant. Not horrible, but not pleasant. The strangest part to me is that nausea is one of the symptoms people have, if they have any at all. I've been EXTREMELY nauseous for a few months now. My gag reflex to unpleasant odors has gotten horrible too. (I'm definitely not PG). The nausea and the bad test levels are an unpleasant coincidence. Ugh. The treatment doesn't seem too bad though I imagine that having chronic flu like symptoms are rotten to experience. Of couse the end result of lowering the virus levels to undetectable are definitely worth it. What really sucks is that if it IS Hep C even if treatment works it means no more tats or piercings. (which is the most likely reason for me to have it if I do)
But for the Fatty Liver; it's funny how so many problems can be taken care of simply by proper diet and exercise! *gasp* it's amazing that the solutions for my woes is something so simple (though NOT easy)
I haven't told DH about the Dr call yet. He is at work and I don't want him thinking about something like this when he operates heavy machinery. I don't know if I want to tell him at all because I don't know how worried he'd be on an everyday basis til it's time to retest at my appt.
My fingers are crossed that it's just fatty liver.
Hi,
I just wanted to say that I had Hepititus B when I was a teen ager. I did get nauseated and I also turned yellow. My urine was very dark and I was constipated. Not much fun to talk about on this site, but those were the symptoms. The first thing you have to do is NO ALCOHOL, Also get some milk thistle, and a very good vitamin. Stay away from red meat too. Keep everyone posted how you do. They should know if you have it or not. good luck. you will be ok if you take really good care of yourself.
So sorry the BGL came back high . . . but try not to get all worried ahead of time about Hepatitis. Sure it's a possibility, but the fatty liver thing is more common and definitely more closely connected to the Diabetes situation.
It is very amazing how many problems are connected with being overweight and it is just as amazing how even a modest weight loss (as little as 10%) can make a big difference. The answer is simple . . . eat less and move more . . . but it is far from easy. Stick with 3FC, kiddo, it really helps.
The Fatty Liver definitely sticks out more as the culprit. I've been known to drink a half gallon of whole milk in a day, then there's half and half. I'd join the diabetes thread but ultimately I know jack about diabetes and don't think I could contribute anything useful
It's really just a chat thread . . . except that we wander off into diabetes related topics from time to time . . . whether you think you could contribute is beside the point (you might be surprised) and you just might gain a lot.
Believe me it is sooooo important to be able to say "I've been worried about blah, blah, blah" and have other people say "Oh yah, that happened to me and here's what I found out".
It is, of course, entirely up to you . . . just remember we are here for you . . .

Hi there, any news on your liver recheck? are you going soon?
I went thru all that too with the liver stuff. Turned out to be fatty liver...surprise surprise. My endo says it is fairly common in out of control diabetics who are overweight. Hope everything turns out all right for you. And by all means, as meowee said, come by the diabetic chat thread. It's nice to be among others with the same issues. And ask questions. Some of us have been working with this conditions for many many years.
I haven't gone back to the Dr yet as the contest doesn't end until mid July. I don't feel nauseous or anyhing anymore like I was. Maybe my fatty liver isn't so fatty now that I've been eating MUCH better? LOL
Last week I was up on the scale, but I had been up since I finished the relay for life that weekend so I think I was retaining some water. Today after finishing last night's relay, I was down 1.5 lbs from the week before's weight! (week before last 243.5, Thursday was 246, this morning was 242! ) So with exception of this week's slide-back, I've lost 21lbs (18.5 with slideback) since April 19th when the contest started. I'm feeling so much better, I think my BGLs are under control for the most part. I haven't been checking but think I will the rest of this month before my Dr appt.
Thanks so much for thinking of me even though I hardly post. I still drop in and read the posts so I haven't completely left, just way too busy.
Those slideback events drive me crazy - that's why I got rid of my scale, I was always weighing myself and feeling bad if I was suddenly heavier for no good reason. Now I go every 2 or 3 weeks to the dietitian and don't even think about it in between.
You are doing so good, only 8 more pounds until your goal, keep working at it, it won't be long now!
Yep . . . Keep up the good work MISSI . . . so glad you are feeling a little better. Glad to hear you are still reading . . . hope you'll find more time to post though because we miss you . . .
Oh boy . . . I so agree with you THIN . . . my scale and I were always waging some kind of war, so I banished it to the cupboard. My plan is to only weight once a month and so far so good.
I would keep checking your blood glucose levels!! Sometimes I will feel absolutely nothing, like I'm completely normal, but I will go back and I'll check and see I'm actually in the higher part of the scale!
They've even got a law against diabetics having a driver's license for more than 3 years here. You have to get it renewed every 3 years, because the DVLA in the UK is afraid of diabetics passing out at the wheel.
Missi, try not to worry too much. I had problems with Fatty Liver disease as well as other liver disease. My symptoms are very much controlled now that I've taken the extra weight off. My insulin resistance and diabetes are also not causing me any troubles now. Hugs, I know it's scary. I hope your next Dr. appt. will give you some answers.
