Does anyone else dress sloppier when they feel bad in their clothes? When I weighed less I used to always be "in style" per say but now that I feel fat I constantly wear sweats and baggy shirts and I know that doesn't help I'am getting better since I do feel better about myself since I started working out. Just curious if there's more out there like me?
Me. When I gain weight I tend to wear sweats because my other clothes can't fit me. It helps me to avoid the fact that I have outgrown my clothes. My husband even told me that we need to stop wearing sweats and wear jeans (he has put on a little weight too). But, I have a friend and she is bigger than me and she dresses cute all the time. Seeing her makes me want to step up my game. Today, I'm actually looking pretty stylish (if I do say so myself).
I totally dress sloppier when I am feeling bad about my weight!
For me it's all about sweatshirts to hide my body... now that it's getting hotter I will have to find other clothes I feel comfortable in.
I know exactly where your coming from
Ive been looking at my wardrobe lately, since I have to go back to work in a few weeks(maternity leave) and I only have 1 pair of jeans that fit me, I have about 12 pairs of jogging pants that I wear. Almost all of my shirts are baggy mens shirts. I dont have any idea what to buy when I go shopping, all the nice clothes look too "dressy" even though Im sure they arent!.....
I need one of those makeover intervention shows to take me under their wing I think
Yep, I do it, too. I think it's a natural tendency of everyone to want to hide when you don't feel good about your body. Too bad it just makes us look bigger.
I told my boyfriend I wanted him to sign me up for "What Not to Wear" when I'm done losing weight, cuz they'd LOVE me (i.e. hate my clothes), and then I'd have $5,000 US to spend on new stuff!
Me, too. Almost all my clothes are 2x or more (I wear 1x). I can't find any pair of jeans that would fit me. Last time I checked (and this was a couple months ago) I think I was a size 26 and even that felt tight. I can't even buy clothes that are my own size because I like the feeling of feeling roomy in my clothes. It makes me feel thinner. lol. Does that make any sense? Now I can't wait to feel roomier in a size medium
The way I dress most people would think is sloppy...I do think I am a little sloppier when I weigh more but overall I just never was hit with that shopping stick. I don't know what is "stylish" and frankly I don't really care...lol...
Yes and no. When I worked (I worked up until I started law school the end of August) I would try and dress stylish or at least nice (there was a dress code so I couldn't wear jeans or t-shirts). But if it was a day I didn't have to go to work I would wear oversized mens t-shirts and sweat (or athletic) pants. I didn't own any jeans because I felt I was to big for them.
I somewhat feel sloppy now. I stopped wearing dress pants, because I don't have to, instead I wear jeans (I no longer wear my althetic or sweat pants other then to work out). I still wear t-shirts and hoodies. I guess that part isn't so much sloppy but what a normal student wears. What I do feel is sloppy is pretty much none of my clothing fit. Almost everything I own is to big on me so I feel it looks somewhat sloppy. I guess I should go to the thrift store to buy transation stuff that fits but I haven't been that motivated.
I hear ya girls. I did force myself last year to buy me some new summer clothes as I had none as I never used to go many places, so after I started working again and started making $$, I figured I deserved it.
But yeah I also buy extremely large shirts and I know probably makes me look even bigger, but I'm like Dawn2Dusk, I have to have room. I did wear a nice shirt that was my size, not hanging off of me like a sack and I looked in the mirror and was amazed. I looked at least 10 lbs thinner! Although it drove me crazy wearing it! lol.
But when I thin-ner I too wore nicer clothes, etc. Now I usually buy for comfort. lol. And with me working nights and not seeing anyone, I can get away with it more than most people can. Not that I am a slob or anything at work, but I can dress more casual than the dayshifters.
My new goal is after I lose 20 pds to buy new clothes. I need some motivation! lol.
Sassy_Chick, I love the feeling of getting lost in my own T-shirt . Even at my goal weight, I'd still buy clothes that are a size bigger to wear at home. It's so comfy.
one thing you can do is buy cute workout clothes. they don't have to be tight or anything but stylish so u can walk around in sweats and still be in style. i think guys like that b/c its more of a down to earth look. just a suggestion...i wear my cute sweats when i'm gonna be running around so i don't feel like a cow sqeezing myself into a pair of jeans i could've worn 6 months ago...plus if you gain of lose a bit of weight...the sweats will still fit!
I dress crappy all the time. It drives my mama crazy! But my self esteem is just too low to even attempt to look remotely cute. Everytime I do, I feel like everyone is staring at me in disgust.
i do this, too. And, i like to make it worse by refusing to believe that i am gaining weight and buying clothes that fit. so, i just make it worse by wearing clothes that are too little. i know that this is the total wrong thing to do but 1) i can't aford to go out and buy new clothes all the time becuase my weight has gone up and down a lot in the past and 2) that would mean that i have to admit that there is a problem.
Not anymore though! I hope to be at my goal or close to it at some point during the summer so that i can wear my old shorts again. Oh and cute tops! and maybe just maybe i will wear a bathing suit this year.
