Talking Hi From Michigan

Hi !

Here we go-- my first post. I had a number of wakeup calls over the last few days-- among them, seeing myself on a video, and getting a letter from my insurance company wanting to raise my premium !! So here we go-- had a major weight loss about 2 years ago-- but met my boyfriend (an avid junkfood guy) and gained almost ALL of it back!!! So here I go-- South Beach!

Hi from Michigan,

I'm also from Michigan and also am starting SB. I just joined 3 Fat Chicks today after a tough weekend. I have gained weight recently and feel digusting. My husband and I are both trying to lose. I have tried alot of different programs, but feel very motivated this time. This is the heaviest I've been in a VERY long time and I'm very upset about it. Good Luck!! i know that you'll do well

Default hi

Hi Michigan!! I am also from the frozen tundra of Mi, and today is the beginning for me. I have not tried south beach. I am a sugar-a-holic and have had success with Susan Somers, (as corny as that sounds) Good luck

Have you done SB before? THis is my 2nd time-- I lost about 10 lbs in Phase 1 last time-- and then I quit. How much do you have to lose? Where in MI are you? I'm right outside of Ann Arbor.

Hi Michiganders!!

I'm from the Auburn Hills area. I am a carb/sugar nut case. I love sugar, but sugar is making me pack on the pounds. I was successful at Medical Weight Loss, I managed to lose 10 pounds. I have struggled at all other diets though. I have never tried SB. I'm hoping that a just start to weight loss will help me to stay motivated and get this extra weight gone for good. I am really down because of the extra weight I'm carrying, my clothes are tight and I feel very fat I'm hoping to get rid of 3 lbs. this first week. We'll see. What are everyone else's stories of weight loss/gain??

Jess

Hello all your frozen Michiganders. I'm from Monroe county right off of 23.

It looks like all of you are new here, so Welcome!!!! This is a wonderful place fro information and support. I've not done SB or any formal diet. I do portion control, try to stick with whole grains and a bit of calorie watching. Good luck.

Hi! Shelby Twp. here. I have had 20 pounds of success with Susan Somers and 20 with weight watchers and running. I am going to Somers it again. My husband is also in need of reducing, and he does well on that because he can eat meat and cheese to no end. He does not have the sugar carb thing going like me.I am glad to find you girls and hope to dhare success with you all.

What is the Somers diet?? I have heard of it but I'm not sure of what it entails. For those of us with major sugar addiction, is SB the best way to go?? I need a little guidance. I have failed so many times that I really want to get it right this time Also, does anyone know of good exercises for a bad back?

Hey,
Somersizing, as they say, entails not mixing protein and carbs in a meal. You can have both but not within 2 hours of each other. There is also no sugar allowed (insert scream). It is actually a fairly easy way to eat. It takes some getting used to. And after you forget about how good a cinnamon roll tastes its pretty good. It is not a diet, however it is a life style. She writes a fairly good book, too. Check 'em out of the library and check for yourself. The very best thing about it is how good you feel. There is something to mixing the two, protein and carbs, that make us feel sluggish and (teehee) gassy. When we (my husband and I ) did it we both felt great and we both said the only way to descibe it is "clean". That is hard to descibe but you feel great gastrically and lighter. So you are asking, why aren't we still doing it? It is hard to live that way. Restaurants, mom's house, parties.

I can understand it being difficult!! That's what I find so hard about losing weight. Making it all fit into life.
