Thumbs up Vietnamese Cinnamon -- Rave

I noticed that some folks are trying to incorporate a daily "dose" of cinnamon in their diets. (I had pregnancy diabetes, so I am.) Had to rave about Vietnamese cinnamon. I just got some from penzey's spices ... WOW. Super strong, and it is so sweet, it tastes like there is sugar in it. (But there's not -- checked the label twice!)

Anyway, just thought I'd pass that on. It's miles away from grocery store cinnamon. If part of your diet includes some type of whole grain bread, you can sprinkle it on for instant cinnamon toast -- no sweetener needed. Great sprinkled in green tea, too.

Oh that sounds de-lish, thanks for sharing! Is it sold in regular grocery stores, I haven't seen it before and I browse the "alternative" sections regularly.

Default Getting it

I haven't seen it in stores, but I haven't really looked in "specialty" stores. I just ordered it from Penzey's, which has the rep of having the best spices. (I think they're pretty amazing, and I'm a foodie/cook.) They're not too-too expensive if you can get a couple of friends to go in with you and buy bulk.

I googled Vietnamese cinnamon and got this funny blog entry (not my blog):
http://www.murrayhill5.net/blog/inmy...es/000565.html He pretty much sums up my feelings.

According to some other websites, it's cassia. FWIW.

I love penzeys and have that cinnamon (we actually have a penzey's store in my town!) You're right, it IS really sweet! I have never sprinkled it in green tea and might give that a go.

Mmmmm....chiming in! This is the only cinnamon I use now - it's MILES away from the regular grocery store stuff. I never thought to just sprinkle it on toast "as is", but will definitely give that a try!

Has anyone else found that they're - for lack of a better word! - pickier about their food choices now? Since starting on a WF way of eating, I'm caring so much about the quality of the foods that I'm eating. Buying the Vietnamese cinnamon, for example, or choosing to use fleur de sel (I really CAN taste a difference) over table salt. I treat myself to berries out of season even though they are expensive - same goes for organic eggs, milk and beef/poultry. It's like there has been a shift in my thinking, and I finally feel that I'm WORTH these little luxuries

I have for sure. Even my DH is starting to like things that are healthy. We've swiched completely to ww bread and pasta. Neither of us can stand the white versions anymore. I'm even getting him to eat the occasional yam!

I'll have to get to our local Penzey's for that cinnamon, sounds great!

Default Be Particular ...

"Has anyone else found that they're - for lack of a better word! - pickier about their food choices now?"

OH YEAH. Any calories that want into my body, they'd better be worth it!

For Lent, we went on a spending freeze (no eating out, no purchases except for necessary items), and already, any desire to eat out is *gone*. I'm a good cook, and we'd much rather have good food than junk.

BTW, I can recommend Penzey's hot curry powder. (And I normally mix my own.) Makes it easy to eat all my veggies!
