I am going through menopause and haven't had periods for several months, a spotting here and there, but nothing significant. Last week, I had a horrible one, went to weigh in then end of that week and had gained 2.6 lbs. I have religiously kept to points, drank my water and walk a mile everyday! I am currently at 355 lbs. I have been on the program since February 23, lost 1 lb, 7 lbs, 2 lbs then a gain. Have any of the peri menopause ladies out there or even you other ladies who have hormonal issues, gained weight during a period of time like this? Oh, I am not showing any retaining water. My feet and hands haven't swelled or anything.
It stupidly upset me so much that I didn't stay for the meeting on Friday. Thanks for your input!
Faye (oh, btw, I think WW is a superb program, so much so I convinced my dh to go on it with me and he has lost 10 lbs and one pant size so far!)
Gma2one, While I'm not menopausal, I do have issues during the dreaded TOM! The first 3-4 months that I was on plan I didn't notice anything unusual at weigh in during that week, but the past 3 months have been a different story. I stay on plan, not even using any flex points, exercise every day....do all the same things I normally do. When I weigh in, however, I'll have either lost only .2 pound, or even gained up to 2-3 pounds. Now, we all know this isn't humanly possible with staying on plan. The first month, I was depressed the entire week until I weighed in again. The second month, I was determined to beat the TOM monster and was even more diligent only to have a gain again. This last month I went in to weigh in with the attitude that I did every thing I was supposed to do, and if it was up, it was up. As long as you stay on plan, it will all work itself out! Hang in there, and know that TOM is something you have no control over what-so-ever, so just keep doing the things you know you need to do to be successful!
I am 43, and yeah I too try to beat "the TOM monster".
I really bloated up this month although surprisingly I didn't gain, I do agree it was impossible to lose an ounce during that time, and exercise is even harder because I become super tired, and my chest hurts. sometimes I have gained 3 to 5 pounds,
Well, I am 53, but a woman is a woman so I guess it could be any age. Since I am not having regular periods anymore, I kind of aimed it at over 50 crowd because my hormones are all over the place.
My husband said something similar to Kelly, he said, you have done everything you are supposed to and there is nothing more you can do. Just keep at it and you will start to lose again. They're right of course, it was just a little upsetting at first and I don't like the lady that weighs us in either. She has a raise the eyebrow attitude when you gain and it irks me big time.
I am one of those fat women that will tell you what I weigh if you ask as I am not ashamed of my size, but I do not think that when you are weighed at WW they should say out loud whether you have gained or lost and what amount. I think that is as private as your weight. She should weigh you, put it in your book and hand it back. You can look at it. IF you are in a position where you ribbon or pin or such, then she should either give it to you if you don't stay for meetings or hand it to the meeting leader and let her do it during the meetings. Anyway, I think I was more irked and upset by this woman's, you'll have to try harder attitude than anything else. She isn't a leader, she is one of the WW center managers and should most definitely know better!
Well I know all the leaders aren't created equal. There were some that I went once to their meeting and didn't go back, and other meetings I would try to go because I liked the leader.
They definately should not say anything when they weigh you. That was one thing I hated about being weighed, I never needed a disapproving look if I gained or didn't lose. I got that a couple of times. I would already know what I weighed, because I weigh myself everyday.
And as far as a manager, you're right, she should know better.
BTW I was just wondering if I was pre menopausal and then I see you said
peri menopause, anyway I certainly have some hormonal issues.
