Question New to low carb dieting....help!

Hi Everyone,
I am 30 years old, 31 next month, and I have been fat my whole adult life. I now weigh about 195 lbs., I say "about" becuase my scale is old and inaccurate (time for a new one, I guess). I need to shed 60 or 70 lbs, and I really want this for myself.

I just joined 3FC 2 days ago. I started my diet a week ago, low carb, and walking about a mile everyday. My feet and legs hurt like ****, especially since I waitress all moring long, and walk for 30 min to an hour every afternoon. I am getting a little frustrated that I do not see my scale moving down yet. It doesn't seem to want to budge. I joined fitday, and my daily intake was 1774 calories, 99 fats, 65 carbs, and 54 protiens, and has been about the same for the last week. Is this good or bad? Am I doing something wrong? What is a good range for low carb diets? Is it normal not to see any movement in the scale within the first week? Any suggestions in low carb dieting would be helpful...

I really do feel motivated, and I feel like I can do it this time. My family doesn't really support me, and I guess I came to 3FC looking for that support that I lack here at home. Anyway, I was really hoping maybe someone can tell me some successes thay have had with low carb dieting.... Someone can maybe give me a little incintive to keep on going, or maybe offer some better suggestions. Basically, I need a cheerleader

Thanks in advance..

Usually those starting low carb start out taking in about 20 carbs a day. The atkins book or southbeach diet book is a really helpful and explains things about lowcarb that you may not know. Anyway! Hope this helps.

Hmmmm, I have no idea, I don't do FitDay, I just eat what I like that is on my approved lists of food. But, I am having success on South Beach and I would love to pass you my recipes and a meal plan if you are interested. Let me know by a PM or here. Good luck to you!

Hey there! Welcome!

FitDay has tools you can use to list calories burned versus calories eaten--and to set a goal weight and time period. Did you use that? I think that 1774 cals sounds a bit high for weight loss, so that might be why you haven't seen any drop.

Remember that low-carb doesn't mean no-carb. You do need some carbohydrates every day.

If your legs hurt from walking, given that you are a waitress, you might want to do exercise that takes the load off your legs, such as an exercise bike. It still works your legs, but you aren't having to support your body weight.

Just a few ideas! Good luck!

Yes, I would very much like to have some meal plans and or meal ideas from you. I am really going at this kinda blind, just trying to eat better than I usually do, not really following a real plan, just trying to make better choices in food, and totally cut the sodas (I drink mostly unsweet tea now), which is my biggest downfall. I haven't touched a regular soda in a week and a half.

Now, since I have started this diet, I have had two days where I didn't watch what I ate (a cheat day). I really should have waited until after these two days to start my diet, but I didn't, which was foolish. My first cheat day was Valentines Day, and yesterday was Mardi Gras, and my friend, Wendy, came into work with a Meche's King Cake for everyone... which is like a great big donut / cinnamon roll filled with cream cheese filling, iced with purple, green and gold icing.... OMG... God help me, I could not resist.... ... I told Wendy that she was hateful, becuase she knows I'm trying to diet... then I thanked her with every bite... LOL Shame on me...

But, I am back on the wagon today and I will not have another cheat day until my birthday, 3-28, ( we eat good on birthdays around here) so thats a month and a half with no cheats....

I live in Louisiana, and here, I am surrounded by cajun food, which is very fattening. We also have alot of Mexican food here too, which is also very fattening. We Cajuns have bad eating habits, and this state, and Mississippi, are like the fattest states in the country. It is very hard to diet when there is so much temtation all around you.

Any help would be appreciated...
