Hey Shannona: Yes, para-menopause can affect your motivation, as it affects your moods, hormones, and energy levels. And, as we get older, it takes a little longer to lose weight, but it is possible. I'm 48 years old and have lost 66 lbs so far and many inches and sizes already.
I still have a ways to go to meet my goal, which is good health and achieving a certain comfort level. I think the key is making little changes, one day at a time. Don't try too much all at once or you'll feel overwhelmed. Make small changes like (1) get the junk food out of your house (2) fill your fridge up with your favorite fruits and veggies (3) go for a walk each day.
Each week or month, change one more thing ... but keep them small. You already know all you need to know; like the rest of us, you're a "diet" expert. What we have to learn is how to be a "good health" expert every day for the rest of our lives. I'm aiming for "some kind of normalacy" ... or balance really!
I honestly believe "starvation diets" per say -- don't work -- because they're not sustainable; they're not balanced; and they're not healthy. Develop a personal plan instead, one that's suited for you personally; ie, choose your favorite dishes and make them healthier. Going for a walk is the easiest way to introduce exercise into your life because it takes no equipment, but a decent pair of shoes/boots.
Don't be too hard on yourself, but set up a modest plan to get started; write it down and journal your progress; many people find this helpful. The fact that you're here means you desire change; so for now, just take a few baby steps in the direction you want to go. In time, they will get easier.
I hope one of these suggestions may be helpful to you. Welcome to the best part of your life, Shannona ... good health for the future. A fellow sojourner and encourager ... Rosebud.
