Default Valentine's Day - What are you doing?

My boyfriend and I have been apart for the past 2 Valentine's Days so this year I am making a little effort to show him how much he means to me.

I am going to make a special meal for my boyfriend that I know he will love as a meat and potatoes man and follow it up with a luscious dessert. Considering he has been putting up with my chicken and brown rice menu for the past two weeks, I figured he deserved a little spoiling

We will have a main course of lamb cutlets with mint sauce and roasted root vegetables, followed by individual Molten Mocha Cakes

Unfortuntely we are dead broke so there will not be any wine. No biggy for me, but I know he would love a glass of red.

Afterwards I think a nice, leisurely walk with our dogs along the coast to watch the sunset over the ocean.

What are your plans?

Sitting at home lonely, disgruntled, bored, cynical, and hating the commercialism of this Hallmark-mandated holiday.

My boyfriend lives 2,000 miles away and I haven't seen him for six weeks, and am not going to be seeing him for another five months. So you can understand I'm not best pleased with a day where EVERYONE'S going to be hanging all over their SO and I can't avoid being reminded of the situation I'm in.

Not to rain on your parade. I hope you and yours enjoy your evening!

Oh Nikaia, I think we've all been there. You sound like a military wife Me and Tim have been together for 2 out of 4 Valentine's Days as a married couple and were really only together and able to see each other because we got married and that allowed me to move out to Cali when he was there. First we were apart because I hadn't moved from NC (our home state) yet, second I was there, third he was deployed, this one he will spend the day and a good portion of the evening at work. Basically, a repeat of our 3rd anniversary when we were going to ACTUALLY do something. Anywho, getting off topic as usual.

I'm going to be cooking a couple glazed cornish hens, sautee up some spinach in a little olive oil and garlic, roast up some potatoes and maybe make a little stuffing for the chicken. Then we'll have good ol' molten chocolate cakes, no mocha for us We decided no gifts, only a card if we wanted to and I found a perfect one with a picture of a scene from Sleeping Beauty, only THE greatest movie ever made hehe

That reminds me, I need to get spinach tonight

For Valentine's Day, I'm going to go into my boyfriend's house when he's not home. I'm going to leave a trail of Hershey's kisses on the floor leading to his bed. The whole floor will be covered with balloons, and in 10 balloons, I'm going to cut up pieces of paper in the shape of a heart with a reason why I love him. He'll have to pop all the balloons to find the 10 balloons with the reasons why in them (the rest won't have anything in them). I'm going to hide the last balloon so he'll have to pop every single one of them, and then look for the last one. I'm so excited to do this...I hope he likes it!

That's so funny...I did that for Tim on his birthday when we were in California! I hope you have an air pump though...you wouldn't believe how much it takes out of you to blow up all the balloons yourself.

Haven't done Valentines day since grade school when we exchanged those little cards and candy. My hubby has enough trouble remembering my birthday, I never expect or do anything. The kids are asking about it since they learn about it in school. But I seriously think its because they want more presents (like all holidays give presents haha). They are at that age! Anyone else not celebrate this holiday? Maybe I am getting old LOL

I don't celebrate it either...my partner works as a floral designer. She's NEVER home on Valentine's Day until late, and then she is exhausted because its such a busy week for them. So sometimes we reschedule it, and sometimes we just ignore it.

We're not celebrating. Every year we say we're not celebrating, and every year my boyfriend buys me a rose. I made him PROMISE not to this year, because I'm going to Yellowknife on business on V-Day evening.

I've had 2 valentine's days with my fiance, and for one we were kinda dating but not serious enough to do much, and the second I was as sick as I can remember being in a LONG time... But we ended up going out to dinner a week later as a 'late' V-Day.

This year, well, I'll be reading up on my Ars Poetica (Horace), followed by 7 hours on campus, a phone call, and crash into bed alone. I get to see the DF again in less than three weeks, so I'll just focus on that while everyone else gets to be with their sweeties!

Melody took the day off from work so we're going to go work out in the morning, and really just spend the day together. Cook a nice dinner, have some wine..and exchange gifts/cards. That's about it.

Ive gone 21 years without a valentine...well my daddy bought me a box of chocolates once...this year I will be spending valentines day working and then traveling five hours on a bus to a conference at which I will attempt to be on my best behavior and not say anything stupid 24 hours a day for 4 whole days. I'll be traveling with a few co-workers though...I wonder if it would be too wierd to get them all something?

Going out to dinner with the hubby. Trying to decide between Bin 36 or The Rosebuds in Chicago. If anyone has been to either, please let me know.

Daisy, you can always find some wines for under $10, and alot of them are good. Just go to your supermarket or wine store and buy one. Wine makes a romantic dinner so much better.

How do ya'll get the notes into the ballons?

You write it on soft paper (basic paper, no cards or thick paper) and roll or fold it up, then just slip it through the hole. It's easier than it sounds

Me and hubby probably won't do much... may go out to eat somewhere decent. We're not really the romantic type so flowers, chocolates, sexy lingerie is out of the question.. lol
