Default trying very hard

Hi All,
this is my first time ever blogging I'm having a difficult time figuring all this out. I'm 46 and have one child. I weigh 193 and I'm only 5'1" my goal is to weigh by this time next year 150. I've been dieting for 17 years. I've decided to change my plan of action to lose weight, since what I've done for the past 17 years hasn't worked. In the past I've always restricted what I eat, I am now starting a Cognitive Behavior Therapy group and eating 3 meals a day. I know that my eating disorder of binging and restricting is a real disorder. In the past I've always made excuses for my overeating. I am trying to exercise every day. That part isn't going so great. On a positive note I have been attending pilates 2 days/week for over a month now. I just need to start doing regular cardo. I think about it, but then I just make excuses or say I will do it later. I don't know how to motivate myself to get to the gym or use my elipical. I have read the new book by Bob Green and that is what made me figure out that I needed to do something different. I have been thinking about some type of surgery, but haven't really investigetd it. I'm giving myself 6 months on this new plan to see if I can loose while eating regular food.

It’s tough being only 5’ 1” Welcome to my world as well...(50 pounds to lose...)
I try to exercise too, it isn’t easy...but if we don’t keep moving what is the alternative?... I think that even a slim person who doesn’t exercise after the age of forty is in trouble. So in a way being heavy is a good thing if it forces us to get moving...(Pollyanna Claibourne!)
Don’t give up. I’ve never come home after a swim or a walk and thought...I wish I hadn’t done that. Good Luck.

Well you've made it to the right place

There's a forum on down the list for people with food-related disorders, like binging or starving or whatever it may be. It's great that you've already taken the first steps to success by joining a therapy group and starting to exercise.

I'm sure you'll come up with something for cardio. I used my treadmill for a while, but got bored with it quickly, and now I use the Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds dvds and love them. I think it's all about finding something you enjoy and can actually stick with.

Trying, Hi, well I am really tall I am 5'2 . I am starting over in the diet wars. Congrats on the Pilates you have made a very good start. know you can be successful at losing. I find the best motivator for me is to see that weight go down. That is very encouraging. I would forget the surgery as the weight can come back. Remember Roseanne ? She had the surgery and looked great but she has regained some of it back,A friend of mine had the surgery and looked beautiful but had a permanent case of diarrhea after the surgery, she could hardly leave the house and regretted the surgery.

Default 50 pounds to lose 2!

Hey, I'm a firt-timer to this site, I am really looking forward to encouragement. I am 51 post-menopausal and trying to get the "pregnant-looking belly" off my body for good this time. I feel like when they say it is the worst to have your weight around the middle, that I am a walking time-bomb for a heart attack or stroke. Anyone else in this boat? heavybaby.

You keep telling yourself, you're worth the trouble. You can do it. You can do anything you set your mind to. Celebrate every move forward. Reward yourself with things like a manicure, pedicure, new earrings, anything but food. I feel for you. heavybaby

I also have a large stomach. I was worried about my heart also. I went to a cardiologist and had my heart checked out. I have a really healthy heart. Before the weather got cold I was walking and had a large hill to walk up. Since it has been cold I haven't been walking. But I am doing pilates. I'll tell you every muscle in my body hurts after the work outs. I strongly suggest. I read Bob Greens new book and it makes more sense than anything I've ever read, and believe me if there was a diet book out there I've read it. Another thing that is motivating me is I get Oprahs magazine. There is always something in there inspirational about weight loss. I finally realize if I want to really lose weight I'm going to have to change my way of life. I'm trying to make the changes one at a time and hopefully it will make it easier, not easy, but easier

thanks for the info about the surgery. I just spent a ton of money on a medically supervised weight loss program. I was on a liquid diet and lost 30 pounds in 4 months. It seemed great until I started eating food again. I have put on 10 pouds in 2 months. I some times get so discouraged. I've finally realized that I have to make major changes to my life style. This realization has beenbeen an awakening for me. Before I always blamed my weight on something else. I now realize the problem is me and the choices I am makeing. I know it's not going to be easy, but I'm ready to start changing the way I eat. In the past I always starved myself all day and then went crazy when I got home. I am not eating 3 meals with a snack and I feel better than ever.
