Default Homeowners Ins in FLA and the Gulf Coast

I've been reading the online Pensacola newspaper. Those poor people in that area have had their rates triple in some cases. This is even if there have been no claims on it.

I realize insurance companies are in it to make money, as with most businesses. But geez! My BIL's brother was canceled after 30 years with his company. He never made a claim against it. He didn't have any hurricane damage to speak of. The little bit that was damaged, he fixed on his own.

My mom has been with her company for over 50 years. She's made very few claims and none in the last 20 years. Yet, her policy has shot up. She's on a fixed income and this is really hurting her.

How are the rest of you along the Gulf Coast area faring?

One of the girls in McSkinny's Loosing Floozies lives in Florida and her insurance premium is ASTRONOMICAL. I don't know how insurance companies can expect people to pay such high rates.
