Question Food Exchange & Measurements

Good Morning!

Would anyone know if having 2 fried egg whites and 1 slice of canadian bacon counts as 1 protein? I'm purple w/lites and my book says 6 egg whites count as 1 protein. One slice of the canadian bacon is 1/2 protein, so I was guessing that adding the 2 egg whites would make this breakfast 1 protein.

I also have a food measurement question. According to the meal plan book, 3cups of lettuce = 1 veggie serving. I was weighing out the lettuce (16oz) on my scale and that's A LOT of lettuce. Am I supposed to weigh it or use a measuring cup?

You want to use a measuring cup for the lettuce.

It sounds logical to me but you might want to run it past your counselor. I did that a few times and you would have thought I major cheated the way my counselor freaked out about my "splitting" a protein serving.

Some though, don't even notice it or mind. To me, it is just one more way to "mix up" the foods and you know how they like to tell you to do that too!

I used to be on purple. I measure my lettuce with a measuring cup.

Best of luck.

Default Splitting Proteins

At my COD they get crazy when I split my proteins , so I just don't write it down anymore. Half the time I am not getting my 7 oz of chicken (grilled chicken salad) so I figure what's the big deal. Some mornings I just need something more so I have 1 hard-boiled egg with my 2 cups of fruit.

3 cups of lettuce = 1 veggie??? Both my gold and purple meal plan books say that 1 cup = 1 veggie. When I got my book, my counselor even made a point of making me aware of the 1 cup = 1 veggie.

Oh, and since I switched to purple w/out lites, I often break up my proteins. It is SO hard for me to sit down and eat 7 ounces of cooked chicken in one sitting now. One of my counselors even suggested breaking up the proteins. After all, that's what you're doing when you use the LA lites.

1cup of lettuce is part of the corrections that someone got from a corporate center. If you go to a franchise center then you get the 1 cup information

Wendy - In November the COD gave me an 'updated' book that had 3C lettuce = 1 veggie. There are some other little changes too, I can't totally remember them right now, celery (3ribs=1V?) I try to find it....

Barb - that's right, I forgot that.

Isn't that just silly? Franchise people get less food. (although I have to say that 3 cups of lettuce is a lot...)

Why is the food info different at different locations??? That doesn't make sense to me. My COD also just gave me the corrected info of 3 cups of lettuce is a V.

some are franchise locations and some are corporate locations. The corporate ones get the info first is my guess.

Well, I guess I'll quit obsessing so much about measuring out a pitiful cup of lettuce. :-)

I got an updated book when I asked for an additional one to keep at work. I noticed it was different and tossed the old ones and got all updated ones. My updated book is dated 2006 on the back.

Cassi sent me the update sheet (it's in PDF so if anyone wants it they have to PM/email me their personal email address so I can send it to them).
