I am so happy!!! I just did my weigh in, and in just a week I have lost 2.5 pounds!!!!! I didn't even do that much! Monday was a whole lot of nothing, I just sat and posted some and talked to a few people then went on about my day. Tuesday me and newarmywife set a 15 minute goal, then the rest of the week was 30. Saturday I wasn't able to do much, and yesterday I got in a some leisure walking with my hubby around a store. All I did was added a little exercise and I lost 2.5 pounds! I can't wait to see what happens this week because I'm going to exercise more and work on cutting calories. Last week was terrible, I stayed right at 2000 most of the time, but a couple days were around 2500, especially from date night Saturday and going out to late lunch/early dinner because we were out and had a late breakfast that morning. But wow! I'm excited. After cutting calories, I'm aiming for 1800, and stepping up the exercise I should lose 3 pounds, maybe more! And so you know, I've talked to a doctor before and 1-3 pounds is okay as long as you're getting in enough calories and don't over-exert yourself, but sometimes you go a little over 3 and it's fine as long as it doesn't make you feel off, like sick or tired a lot, and it doesn't have any effects on anything. I've been known for radical weight loss so they're fine with me as long as it doesn't make me feel worse instead of better. But yay! GO ME!!! I just never thought that my first week would go so well and now I have more to look forward to with new friends and motivation.
Congrats Tracy! Sounds like you have a good plan set. I think another reason its recommended to loose 1-2 lbs a week "safely" instead of more is that loosing slowly (1-2 lbs per week) usually results in keeping the weight off instead of loosing, gaining, loosing, gaining....But it seems like when people are starting out loosing weight you can loose a bit faster in the first month or two, then it might slow down a bit. Either way, it sound like your doc gave you some great advice about following how your body feels.
We got a new scale last night, a digital instead of a dial, which I never thought was accurate, and sure enough I was right. It was 5 pounds off, but that's okay! I adjusted my starting weight to what it really was, 209, and I will just add a few weeks to lose the additional 5 pounds to get to my goal. It doesn't bother me, I lost 2.5 pounds!
Hey, congratulations! I just lost my first five too! Now that we know what a rush it is and how great it feels, we can look forward to the next five, right?
