I'm heading to Target after work since the new Taebo Bootcamp videos are on sale. I do not work out and am in bad shape, would I be able to do this?
Also, is it possible to be too "fat"(sorry to use the "F" word) or out of shape for pilates? Whenever I try it I'm so discombobulated(sp?) and can't do half the moves, I feel like it's ineffective for me.
Well, I'll be completely honest with you and share my TaeBo story.
I was 286 pounds when I started. TaeBo Cardio was one of the first workout DVD's that I got. It was extremely difficult. I could hold out for about 20 minutes before I was completely exhausted. My face used to turn beet red and I used to get BAD, exercise related, headaches. I kept on with it though for a couple of weeks. I didn't like it at all. I couldn't keep my balance and it was hard. I decided that I would go back to it after I lost some weight.
Nine months later and a hundred pounds lighter, I went back to it. It was STILL hard as ****!! But, I mastered the TaeBo Cardio and moved on to the Boot Camp.
It WILL get you into shape if you keep up with it. BUT, it is very difficult...just like boot camp. I hated being shouted at and it just wasn't fun.
BE CAREFUL though! I did the Ultimate BootCamp one day and hurt my quads really badly...couldn't squat down for 2 weeks without sharp, sharp pains radiating up my legs.
In regards to Pilates, I would say DO IT!!! I got the Pilates Weight Loss for Dummies and used it for MONTHS when I first started. It will help you get in shape!!!
I could give you some other really good suggestions on DVD's, if you'd like my opinion. What do you like to do? Do you like to dance?
Hello there..I'm very new here...but I just wanted to say that I wouldn't advise getting Tae Bo. I bought it two weeks ago. I was all movitvated and everything by it at first, but it's hard to have controlled kicks at the speed he's going. It puts a lot of pressure on your joints. There are certain moves in the Boot Camp Elite Tae Bo thing, and even in other Tae Bo tapes, that put strange pressure on my knees. It's really uncomfortable. I think it's related to me being overweight...but it leaves you winded too easily. I would say that Tae Bo is better for people who are more fit...I'm actually going to refund the Boot Camp today. I am really disappointed with it. Sometimes Billy Blanks goes too fast with certain exercises. Way too fast...
Fit or not, Tae Bo can really mess you up. I can't tell you the amount of times I hurt my hip or knee. I used to get pinched nerves in my neck CONSTANTLY and would be in severe pain for days. I was constantly sore ALL OVER. Even my doctor told me that Tae Bo can really hurt your back. All that pain stopped when I stopped the TaeBo. And I was in pretty darn good shape when I was doing it!
I tried the bootcamp series and didn't like it. But I do like his Get Ripped advanced series. To me, they're more fun and burn more calories than the bootcamp series. And, yes, some of his moves can be jarring on the joints, so I advise replacing the moves that don't 'feel right' with some of your own favorite moves.

I agree with you on the moves that are jarring and or extremely uncomfortable I modify the move.
I have the Bootcamp series and it was difficult for me but, again, I modified certain moves until I was able to master them and if I can't oh well, I move on with my modified version. I do that with other workouts as well.
I LOVE Billy Blanks, but did not like Bootcamp - AT ALL.
If you want to do TaeBo, go to eBay, and try to snag some of the very early Tae Bo Live "Basic" dvd's.
They are slower than the other ones, and there are people of all shapes and sizes in the background. All ages, and physical ability, too (there's a young guy in a wheelchair).
