Well I'm getting very close. I'm having a scheduled c-section on the 12. My hospital doesn't offer the option of VBAC after 2 sections which I had with both my boys. I've come to terms with that.
I produce big babies, 10lbs 2oz and then 11lbs 2oz, I was borderline gestational with my last one and this time too. I actually had sugar in my urine one week but have kept it under control since them. I was being a bad eater for awhile.
I haven't exercise this pregnancy and I've gained 40lbs so far putting me at 315lb. I'm a little bummed at that number. I got up to 316lb with my first pregnancy and only up to 309lb with the last one.
I've started retaining water and my hands are constantly going numb. My back was bugging me for awhile but that's gone away, the baby must have moved. The baby is still moving a lot and I find it very comforting.
I have tons of Braxton Hicks now and lot's of downward pressure but no other signs of labor anytime soon. I am a little scared of going into labor this time because i would have to be medivacced to the city which the plane takes an hour to get here and an hour back.
The last time i went into labor I went from every 15 minutes to every 2 minutes within 2 hours. It was very intense and I was ended up with an emergency c-section anyway because the baby was too big. I went into labor 3 days before my scheduled one.
THis time I'm going to be in the city about 12 days prior to my due date and having the scheduled section 10 days before. So if I can hold off until them I'm good.
Thisis getting long but I was wondering how all the other pregnant mamas were doing and kept checking in but saw no updates. I hope everyone is well and not too tired after the holidays.
We had great holidays and I got an ipod for when I start walking again. I have all my music downloaded already. I can't wait to start walking again. It's rather cold here lately to be walking outside and I just can't get inot walk away the pounds right now.
Not much exciting here! Will be 23w on Thursday, and we FINALLY have our big u/s on Friday!!! I cannot WAIT to be able to start referring to this little bean as a HE or a SHE (preferably SHE!) Other than that - well, second tri is supposed to be boring, right?
I am 27 weeks 1 day right now. I am due April 1, 2007, but am 99% sure it will be before that. My first child (girl, 3 yrs) was born at 39 weeks 1 day, and my second (boy, 10 months) was born at 36 weeks 3 days. I am thinking sometime in mid-March is nothing goes wrong.
I am feeling pretty good, considering having only four months between pregnancies and packing around a 26 pound boy a lot of the time. Thankfully my son has mastered walking, even running a little bit, which most moms would shudder at but I think is wonderful. At least it means he wants to be held a little bit less. My daughter is an amazing help with him, too.
I go for my glucose screen in 2 days, then my 28 week checkup & Rhogam injection the day after that. I have outgrown a few of my maternity clothes. I know in another month I'll be down to about 2 pairs of pants and 2 tops probably. I think I am starting to nest a little bit. I went through all my daughter's old baby clothes and sorted through by size. Looks like we are pretty much set. We may need a few pj's and onesies but as far as going-out outfits, we've got plenty.
I've gained 11 pounds as of last week. I'm not unhappy about it. I was 212.5 when I got pregnant with my son, and at 4 months postpartum, when I got pg again (surprise ) I was 218.5. As of last week I am 229.5. I hope to keep it around 15 lbs but under 20 is still fine. I gained 22 with my son and lost 16 very quickly. I've been lucky that being overweight has not created any problems for my pregnancy as far as blood pressure or pre-e, at least not so far. I have been eating loads of junk (OMG - Hickory FARMS for pete's sake!) over the holidays. I'm excited to get back on track with normal meals again.
Oh and we are having a girl but don't have a name chosen yet!
Fiona - That's so exciting! I hope your baby cooperates for you on Friday!
I'm doing fairly good myself. I can't believe how fast the pg is flying by (I'm sure my 1-year old dd has something to do with that!) I go for my GTT in a couple weeks. As of my last OB appt I was down a lb overall and I suspect I have lost more since DH and I were very sick over Christmas and my appetite is just now getting back to normal. My only complaint is the back/hip pain. I have discovered that kneeling on the floor, leaning over my exercise ball helps get the weight off my pelvis and alleviates some of the pain. Too bad I can't stay in that position all day My next OB appt is in a couple of weeks, so I'll update then.
Sounds like everyone is doing well. That is great! I get more uncomfortable each day. I've swelled a lot and have resorted to using my running shoes with laces very loose. None of my winter boots fit very comfortably. Oh well! Only 9 more days.
I'm 30 weeks and gained 50 already. I kinda resolved my weight gain issues, that it is just something my body does every time. 80 pounds with #1, 70 pounds with #2, and now 50 pounds and 10 weeks left.
Well it’s been awhile since I posted so I guess this would be the appropriate time to give an update. I have a little over 6 weeks left but I’m ready to go today! I’ve gained 45 lbs already, 18 of which I gained in a month! My Dr. isn’t too worried because a lot of the weight is fluid and there isn’t much I can do to prevent that. My legs, ankles, feet and hands are terribly swollen. So as you can image I’ve lost my pregnancy “glow” and I’m not feeling very attractive these days. My blood pressure has gone up every time at the last 5 visits, so it appears I’m on a similar track as I was with DS. With him I went on half day work days around 36 weeks, then went on bed rest a week later and was induced at 38 weeks because of my blood pressure. With this baby I would be fine with going a little early again, but I really didn’t want to be induced because the contractions where unbearable last time. I’ve been told that the pain is much worse when you’re induced because your body isn’t physically ready for it. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I know how it feels to be induced and it can’t possibly be any worse!
We have the nursery almost ready. I just need some window treatments, an area rug and the glider I ordered and it should be set. The nursery is very girly so if we have a boy we're in trouble. I already told DH if it's boy we’ll have to sell all the furniture on ebay and buy all new stuff! I went through all my son’s baby clothes last weekend and washed everything I can use for this baby. It appears I’m fine on layette but I need to get some girly outfits. I’m nervous about buying too many girly outfits and then I jinks myself and have another boy. We only had two ultrasounds, one at 6 weeks and one at 20 weeks, I think I would feel more confident it’s a girl if I could have one more. My Dr. doesn’t like doing them, so unless there are any red flags we won’t be scheduling another one.
I’m getting really nervous the closer the date gets. It’s been almost six years since DS was born and I feel like I’ve forgotten so much. I know I really haven’t, but the more I stress about it the more I feel like I’m not ready. Good thing DH is calm and prepared, or so he thinks!
I am scheduled to have my baby on Feb. 16th, 6 more weeks to go! I can't wait!! I am so tired of being pregnant and miserable, both physically and mentally. Sometimes wonder if all the work is worth the effort, which I know it is when you are holding a beautiful baby in your arms. So far I have gained about 20 pounds, which isn't bad considering with my daughter I gained close to 80.
Had an ultrasound the other day and looks like I will be having a fairly big girl. So far the u/s shows the baby is about 6lbs, which is a little bigger than average for 33 weeks. So I am guessing that by the time the baby is born she might weigh around 9lbs or so. My husband and I are taking bets on the weight.
My question for everyone is this: I'm planning on breastfeeding but I have no idea as to what supplies that I may need. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I bottle fed my daughter and that was 12 years ago. So I am really clueless.

Well...ya need boobs... I assume you've got those already.
Nursing pads - cause for the first couple weeks at least, your boobies are going to be ready to go before you are, and you don't want to walk around with soggy shirts.
Nursing bras - regular and the no-underwire "sleep" kind. They come in different styles, but the most common seems to be with a hook at the top of the (OMG, brain cramp - what's it called?!) you know, the cup!
A pump? So that other people can take over the feeding duties once in a while (like DD! or the grandparents, while you and DH have a quiet dinner out?). You can rent or buy the super-duper electric milking machines (they kinda scare me) but if you're just going to use it occasionally, a cheaper electric or battery-operated one will probably do ya just fine.
I’m sure some of the other women are much more experienced and can answer this better but I’ll give some advice based on my experience. I nursed my DS and I plan on nursing this baby as well. When I was pregnant with DS I was very naive and trusted what the lactation nurses had told me. They had said not to waste my money on a pump right away just in case nursing didn’t work out because pumps can be very expensive but once I was comfortable nursing then I should get a pump. They said I had plenty of time to get one after the baby was here because I wouldn’t need to pump until the baby was at least 4 weeks old. They also said not to worry about getting any bottles prepared because I shouldn’t introduce the baby to a bottle until it was at least 4 weeks old because of nipple confusion. They said all I needed to bring to the hospital was some nursing bras, nursing pads, nursing gowns, and some burp rags for DS. So that’s what I did and I really wish I had gone with my intuition and had a breast pump prepared because as soon as my milk came in I was instantly full! I became so engorged that my DS couldn’t latch on and for eight hours I was in so much pain and for eight hours DS didn’t eat. The lactation nurses went crazy on me then I said I was going to give him formula. They said I couldn’t do that & if I did he would never latch back on because he would have nipple confusion and that eating from a bottle is easier so no way will he take to me again. They said I had to take a warm bath and self express milk enough to the point where DS could latch on. Well I couldn’t even wear a shirt much less touch my breast. My chest was so large I thought it was going to explode. So after I sat in the tub crying from the pain of trying to express milk I said heck with the nurses and I sent DH to Target to get a breast pump and gave DS a bottle of the premixed formula. It was quite the scene. Then when DH got back with the pump his buddy was visiting the baby at that time so those two guys got to put together the breast pump and try to figure out how to work it. Looking back that part is quite funny, but during that time it was complete madness.
After I completely empty out both sides life was great and I never had the problem again and DS never had any more problems latching on. So to make a long story short, I would recommend having a pump prepared and bringing it to the hospital with you in case you have any questions on how to work it. You don’t have to get a real expensive one, my pump is just the manual Advent one I think it’s called Iris. Every mother and every baby is different so I guess being over prepared is better than not being prepared. Sorry this got so long!
I agree with the others regarding supplies. I also used an Avent Isis pump. I'm a SAHM mom, so didn't need a heavy duty pump. It just helped to relieve the early engorgement (like Dawn said) which helped DD to latch on.
There are also nursing pillows (though regular pillows work too). I preferred the Boppy over My Brest Friend, but that's just my personal preference. You may not need a pillow at all.
Wow! Lot's of great advice. If ever you should get engorged and feel pain or discomfort have a warm shower and you can 'milk yourself', sorry for the term, couldn't think of another way to put it.
I breastfeed both my boys for 15 months and 18 months. I barely ever used my pump. I have two a two piece manual which I have found worked the best for me and another medela one that works alright. I think it's the way my breast are made that makes it difficult.
We just made do with out pumping, I'm home with the babies for hte first year and would do erra nds and be out of the house when the baby was sleeping so making sure some was available was not a problem for me.
Other news, is I've been put on bedrest and dh has to stay home to watch our 2 year old. My blood pressure has crept up this last two weeks and I've gained 5 pounds in a week. So I have to go in again tomorrow to check my blood pressure. This happened with my first pregnancy as well, so I'm just making sure I don't have a headache or pain on the right side by my ribs. Swelling has also gotten worse but doing okay. Only 7 more days!!!
I am WAY behind you guys! Almost 16 weeks. Got initial amnio results yesterday and the major age-related chromosone problems are non-existant. Meaning no Trisomy 13, 18 or 21 (downs). Big relief as I lost a baby due to downs at 17 weeks a few years ago. It's a GIRL! Quite a shock, we were convinced it would be another boy.
Go read this blog on nursing mother's survival kit and the comments that follow - I thought it was very inclusive and will give you some stuff to think about. Except that you need a lactation consultant/nurse you trust. I was ill-advised at the hospital and although things kind of worked out, I ended up exclusively pumping from about 1.5 months old until I quit at 6 months. Not the experience I want this time. DO NOT start with the bottles before 4 weeks. We started at 2 weeks so DH could do night duty and between that and the fact he (DS) wasn't latching too great, he quickly came to prefer the bottle over boobie.
If you're going back to work - you have to cough up the bucks for a Medela or other high-quality pump. I obviously used mine A LOT.
I am calming down somewhat with all the good news and it appears this one is a keeper, so that is awesome (I've had several miscarriages). Still nauseous a lot of the times, guess I should have known it is a girl. Going to start exercising again tomorrow - after my 3 days of rest following amnio. Also need to get the rest of the junk food out of the house from the holidays. Looking forward to getting back into a normal routine. DH's birthday was yesterday and that's the real end of the holidays for us.
I'm going to tell my boss on Monday and start telling others - that will be FUN and exciting. One of the few benefits of being overweight is that I don't show at all unless you happened to measure my bust pre-pregnancy - then you might wonder what was going on with the extra inches there! :-)
