Default The holidays are almost over

Well, Santa brought me, "You, on a diet" for Christmas. I am just starting to read, but it looks very similar to a whole foods/mediterranean lifestyle. So, my goal is to have it all read, groceries brought and all of the holiday food/treats out of the house by 1/1/07! Who's with me on this??

I'm in!! I got that book too! I read a few chapters of it yesterday and I really like it so far. The recipes sound good and they've got some good advice for warding off cravings. I'm doing meal planning and all of my shopping tomorrow.

I also just signed up with FitDay a few days ago. My goal is to add more exercise and begin a yoga program.

I'm glad the holidays are over. Here's our holiday fiasco...
We were supposed to go to Mexico for Christmas with family and most of them had already left a few days prior. We live near Denver and the day of the blizzard (12/20) our flight was cancelled after we got to the airport and there were no more flights going out that day due to the weather.
We were rescheduled to fly out the next day and it was snowing and blowing so hard visibility was next to nothing so we drove to hotel row near the airport and got a room at the Holiday Inn Express.
This blizzard was one of the worst snow storms Denver has seen since 1998 and the airport completely closed down. We got snowed in at the hotel for two more days as our car was completely buried with all the other cars in the parking lot. We felt lucky to have a room though as many passengers slept in the airport for three days!
The food situation was the strangest part of the whole experience. The hotel didn't have a restaurant and only served continental breakfast which was over by the time we got there that first day. All of the restaurants nearby were either closed due to the blizzard or had run out of food and no deliveries were available due to the blizzard. We ate the snack foods that I brought for the airplane trip (dried fruit, nuts, power bars) for breakfast and lunch but I had to beg the hotel to let my son have a bowl of cereal for dinner from their continental breakfast stash that first night.
Next day we had the continental breakfast and I stuffed some bread and pb&j packets in my purse for my 9 yr old son for lunch. We ate candy, chips and popcorn from the little fridge in the room for dinner that night (my son thought that the coolest thing)! The last night we walked 1/2 mile in the snow to the only restaurant that opened that night for a two hour+ wait and all they had left was burgers. We took it!!
It was so strange to have little access to food. Being a spoiled American, I don't think that's ever happened in my life. If we had been home and snowed in, I have lots of frozen and dried foods, beans, noodles, etc. It was strange but quite an adventure and a good learning experience for my nine year old son. We won't make it to Mexico but it's good to be home!

I'm restarting a little earlier than you. Thursday to be exact. I gained 4 or 5 pounds over Thanksgiving and another 3 over Christmas. Just 10 to lose to meet my goal. My houseguests leave on Thursday, so I should be back to clean eating by then (not that I didn't eat clean, I think I just drank too much wine, LOL!).

Well, except for some planned Christmas frivolity I've stayed reasonably whole this holiday season. Today I either pitched sweets or stowed some in the freezer for the kid's lunches when they go back to school. How liberating to just get rid of candy and cookies. I've never done that before. I admit to a twinge of guilt, but reminded myself that the hungry of the world wouldn't have eaten my cookies anyway, I would have.
