Hi, everyone! My name is Katie and I recently moved to Cuyahoga Falls, OH. I am 22 years old and an Accounting major in college.
I posted in the Introduction section of the forums, but then I saw this one, so I thought I would come here too, lol....I too am 300+ and trying again.
I am not sure exactly what I weigh, I don't have a scale at the moment in the new place, only at my parents' house. But I know it is somewhere close to 315 or 320.
Anyways, I really look forward to meeting you all, and maybe some of you can show me the ropes? I never have been a member of a site like this one, and I would love to participate, but not sure where to post.
You'll find we are a pretty friendly bunch! It's easy to join in too. If you like, you can post a bio on the "sticky" bio thread at the top of the page. To join in the conversation, just post on the numbered thread. We're on #1077 and will stay there thru 30 or 40 posts, when someone will start another numbered thread.
Hi Katie! Welcome to our little corner of the boards! You'll find a slew of information for newbies "stickied" up on top of the list of thread titles. I think you'll find some valuable information there. Just jump right in. I promise you'll be welcomed with open arms!
It can be overwhelming to get started. I recommend picking one or two things you can do to start, whether it's food or exercise. You can start with baby steps.
I started by watching portions, and bringing my lunch and snacks to work with me.
I look forward to participating on the board. I spent a lot of time today reading a lot of threads in all the sections...you know, getting myself revved up for the journey ahead
I have dieted a lot in the past, but nothing ever stuck. I think now I am finally ready to take the big dive and finally stick to something healthy and good for me.
Lilion- Thanks for letting me know about the bio thing! I will definitely do it! Also, I will take part in the chats, they sound really fun
thinthinker- I have been doing so much reading the past couple days, my boyfriend is starting to worry about me being totally glued to the computer reading quietly! LOL There is so much great information on here, it would take years to read it all I bet!
Xena2005 - Yeah, I like the "backward math" lol...at least that is what my statistics professor called it, hehehe. I am trying to get a job now in some office position, but no one will hire me. I have enough experience to be useful, but not enough where someone will PAY me to be useful! hehe
sandybar - This is one of my favorite avatars as well It was a toss up between this one or a Pillsbury Doughboy avatar that says "Poke me and die!"
wyllenn - Thanks a lot for the advice I have been taking evening walks with my boyfriend for the past few nights for about 2 miles. I haven't really done a lot about my eating habits yet, but I am trying to ease myself in. I figure anything is better than what I was doing, even if it is just being more active. For me, the exercising is much more difficult to stick with than eating right. So if I can get in the habit of being active and stick to it, than the eating can come in a couple weeks. The only problem with the healthy eating is that I live on a very tight student budget, and buying all the tasty healthy food is hard. I am pretty much limited to the produce selection at Aldi, lol..(which is teeny at best) so that food can get boring after a while. I will figure out something though thanks so much for the encouragement!
Walking is a great way to start! If you like, join us on the exercise thread, stickied at the top of the forum. We not only set goals for our own exercise, but we are working toward group goals.
We focus on minutes of exercise -- people pick whatever exercise they want.
You're welcome to join us now, if you like. You don't have to wait for a new month. Read the opening post, and let us know if you have any questions!
Okay, I just posted my 70 minutes in the exercise section I think starting in January I will make a monthly goal. For now, I am going to walk between 30-40 minutes per evening. I will kick it up in January though, once I get used to it.
Katie - Hello from the other active accountant on the board. I have been working in accounting for about 10 years now but just received my degree last year. Are you looking to go public or stay in private?
I find that weight loss has a lot in common with bookkeeping. You have a breakeven point and then you have to manage you incomes and outflows in order to change the direction you are moving. I often term certain foods as too "expensive" to eat. It really helps me put things into another perspective that I can relate to.
Ok, I can't resist, quick accounting joke! I am going to be a librarian (after I get my Master of Library Science), and a cousin I love dearly is getting her CPA. At our last family get together, after way too many margaritas, I started teasing her (lovingly!) about being an accountant. We had a converstation that went approximately like this:
Lisa: So how do you feeeeeel when you tell people you're an accountant?
Jill: About the same as you must feel when you tell people you're going to be a librarian.
Lisa: Touche, darling.
Totally off topic, but I laughed so hard, tequila almost came out my nose.
