Question Brown basmati rice...

would this be considered core? I'm not sure what the difference is between this and regular rice (aside from taste!), but I was so excited when I saw brown basmati rice... Please advise, 3fc lovelies! (err, I'm a lurker btw!)

I couldn't find "brown basmati rice" in the Complete Food Companion, but here's what I did find. This is from the 11/04 version. There is a newer verson out now, so maybe it's in that one.

hmm... I assume that to mean white basmati rice. I'm not attending meetings at the moment so I can't ask. I'm going to take a look at the nutritional info compared to brown rice - if it's pretty similar, i'll assume it's core and wait and see.

thanks for the help

There's a recipe in the turnaround cookbook that has brown basmati rice in it, and the recipe is marked core. Take that as you will.

What is the difference? I've never heard of basmati rice, but now I'm very curious!

Basmati rice is a very aromatic, nutty flavoured rice. It's generally the same texture, but has a more woody flavour. I don't think I'm doing justice explaining it, but it's quite a nice flavour. You should try it, if you can find it in your grocery store - my local Loblaws just started carrying it in large and small containers.

I love brown basmati rice - way BETTER than regular brown rice - very yummy and tasty - I think once you try it you won't go back to the regular kind!

Default Fellow Canadian !

Froufy,

I love basmati rice and not having it has been one of my big adjustments that I've had to make in following core. It took me a while to even find a brown rice that I considered palatable

Where did you manage to find brown basmati rice?

Thanks,

I think I found mine at Loblaw's - brand name if I remember correctly is Rose or Delrose? in a patterned (large) paper bag-like container in rice section. Excellent!

I got mine at Loblaws too They have large bags of it (a black small checkered pattern I believe), and they also have those (*coughoverpricedcough*) small plastic containers of them.
