Default Fire!

Holy smoke! (No pun intended!)

We are having severe wildfires a few miles from here ... it's currently burning in Kenndale and covering 100 acres and headed this way. Judd just went outside to turn on the sprinklers and wet down the fences. We have strong winds, low humidity, high temperatures ... not good.

OMG, this is bad. Not only is the above-mentioned town involved, but now Arlington has it, as well as Colleyville, Granbury, and many other surrounding towns. Judd is outside frantically trying to make sure everything is wet.

This is scary. People are just standing by and watching their homes and animals and memories going up in flames.

All they know is ... fierce winds, low humidity, high temperatures. We are surrounded by fires right now.

It still smells pretty bad outside now, and we're keeping an eye on things.

Kathy, I've been out all day. I can't believe this is happening. What town are you in? Have you been directed to evacuate? I'm praying for rain or something to stop this disaster.

No rain for at least a week. We are still watering.

We're in Mansfield, which is right between Dallas and Fort Worth, south of Arlington. South Arlington and Mansfield butt right up against each other. We're about 1/2 mile inside the Mansfield city limits, which means we're actually closer to Arlington than Mansfield proper. We've had a few mini scares this afternoon because there are farms all around us, which means lots of wide open spaces that can catch fire.

So far, so good though. We will take turns keeping an eye on things tonight.

Actually Granbury is only about 45 minutes away. Far away for a fire, you're right, but they're cropping up all over the place with no notice! The one that's by TCC Southeast Campus (do you know where that is?) is close to us, and the one in Kennedale, on 287 and Sublett is also close. Judd was starting to panic, I think.

There is one on I-20 and they just built another one in south Arlington, off of 360 and near Sublett and New York.. I can never remember how long you've been gone -- I say "just built" but it's probably been 5 years. It's the southeast campus.

They said that the afternoons are going to be the worst times because that's when the wind is worst. And can you believe this? One of the fires was started when someone was outside welding. That's like throwing a lit match on a haystack. I just don't understand some people.

I just saw this on the news this morning, and immediately thought of you. I wish I could send you the rainstorm we had last night. Please be safe!

i've been in montana since dec 97, so i'm behind on things around the metroplex. we have lived in tx most winters (we had a motorhome till this past may) but we stayed mainly around johnson county when we were in the metroplex.

i hope you get some much needed rain. wish we could send you some, too. i know how those winds are. we have fire problems in the mountain forests up here in late summer. some people are certifiable, aren't they? what a shame. i hope the fires end down there soon.

It's been damp and rainy here all day. I wish I could send you some of this moisture. I'm afraid for all of you.
