Default Children Doing WW

Hi, a newbie here:

My family will be starting back on WW after Christmas. I know that there is no actual point range for children, but has anyone had a child follow the program? My dd is 9 and weighs 131; we are setting her long term goal at 100. I was thinking she could use the lowest point range, but I want to make sure she is getting enough to eat and losing slowly/safely. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with ww & children?

I have discussed this with her pediatrician in the past, and he had no problem with her trying to lose weight as long as we were following a healthy plan. We are doing this together as a family, because we want it to be a lifestyle change, not a diet.

Thanks for any input.

That's a pretty tricky situation. It's also a very controversial issue.

I'm assuming the pediatrician has checked her out thoroughly and there's no underlying medical issues. Next is the question of how much physical exercise she gets ... I think those DDRs are perfect for her age! If you don't have one, there are a few that have been talked about here and I'm sure someone would be happy to give you a recommendation.

I commend you for wanting to get a handle on it this early. Lots of our people here have said that they were overweight as children and it continued into adulthood.

WW Core is a healthy lifestyle that can be followed by all of your family members and doesn't have to be considered a "diet", per se. It's a lifestyle change, as you said, and emphasizes whole foods with minimal processed foods and lots of lean means, fruits and veggies, dairy, and healthy oils.

Good luck and please be sure to keep us updated!
