Do you use instant rice or long cook?
When I make my Chicken Fried Rice I use one can of broth to 1 1/2 cups uncooked instant rice. |
I don't think the Egyptian Rice is supposed to have leftover liquid. I think maybe I better just do the one can of broth and 1 1/2 cups of instant rice.
Jim is already making faces about his new recipe. When we were in the pool he smelled someone's grill. I said "I gave you a chance to say what you wanted to eat. We could have had steaks on the grill!". He laughed because he knows I'm right. We'll just have popcorn if the meal stinks! |
Yeah, Kathy. I just reread your post. The recipe, though, says 4 cups (2 cans) of broth to one cup "raw" rice. My measurement are closer to yours.

Vickie, I made the Egyptian Rice, and it turned out OK. It wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't gross either. I guess the word for it is plain. Of course, I had to leave out the mushrooms, so maybe that didn't help... We did something kind of fun for leftovers Sunday. I took all the leftovers out of the fridge, and put them on appealing little plates. Then we had an "auction." I showed the item, and if you wanted it, you'd raise your hand, and you got it. Anything I knew would be popular (leftover pizza, for example) I cut into enough pieces to share. I also made sure everyone got at least one main dish and one fruit/veggie. The kids thought it was fun, and felt like they got exactly what they wanted, and I got rid of leftovers! Angela |

Did you remember what kind of rice you used and whether or not you used both cans of broth? I don't want it to be soupy. I'm also adding some garlic since it sounded bland. |
I used long cook rice, and followed the recipe exactly. I think for instant, I'd use the liquid/rice ratio the package suggests. Mine turned out the consistency of rice pudding, which is right, I think. You definitely don't want it soupy! Garlic would help, as would some kind of vegetable in it...
I also forgot to mention, the other day I made those ff cool whip/peanut butter things. Wow, were they good! Angela |
kathy, i have the same problem you do except i'm not at an acceptable weight. one night out of dining, etc.... and i have a big gain, too. ain't it the pits?
i used to weigh 228 so even 192 is better than that--but it's not a good place to be comfortable--and it isn't!!!! your shelves look great. tell judd "he done good." angela, what a fantastic idea for leftovers. i'll have to do that with the grands sometime they're over. vickie, let us know how the egyptian rice came out. i need to go water the plants. "into the west" will be on shortly and i want to see it. have a good evening. i'll prob be back later. |

Hey Kath if we had a pound for every time we said that we'd be at our goals...again. Angela thanks for the understanding.....it's so hard, an everyday struggle...I am bound and determined, dag-nab-it...I have got to gtet the weight off.....it is that important to me....I am thinking I have 6 months till Christmas to accomplish this. Geez Mem Day to 4th of July to Christmas Eve....that should do it...
Angela I will tell you even though you probalby know......staying there is soooooo much harder...but hang in there....you'll do fine.....seems like you are right there with Kath and me...and probably Cher too. ..so although a awful feeling we are not alone.....we are all strugging at one point or another....again whether it is 1, 10, 50 or 100 lbs it is an everyday battle............... and Kathy YES.......if I COULD lose a pound for every time I have said that I'd be at MY goal. I am soooooo mad at myself, having screwed up for months...and WHY????? who the :devil: knows....I should have been back to goal months ago.....but again I have a new resolve and I AM going to get there again!! I have to keep reading and reading all posts to know that I am not alone......why in the **** is this soooo hard.....ok, ok, Vickies' words..."this is how I eat" , "this is how I eat" I still plan on staying 100% all week, YES, all week in order to bask in the shear pleasure of Cold Stone Creamy's 4 pt Ice Cream Saturday Julyu 2nd. I am bound and determined to report a LOSS Saturday....I am planning on walking on the Treadmill we have at our Clubhouse fitroom 3 times this week. Did I mention that to you all?? I forgot we had it until we all got together Friday night and it came up!! I have packed my sneaks and walkman alreay for tomorrow. As you all know the WORST time for me is coming in the door after work everyday, so my plan is to go directly to the Clubhouse Treadmill, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.00!!!!! So dinner is over. I'm a little disappointed. I don't like pork chops but for some reason, I always think that THIS time I will! But I don't! So everytime I make them, I eat a bite and say yuck. Don't you think I'd learn? :lol:
Tomorrow is a new day. I must somehow get across to myself that I have no choice ... this is what I must do. I could have been to my goal months ago if I had been diligent. Now I need to figure out why I'm working so hard to sabotage myself. |
