Exercise Challenge, Week of 6/12-6/19

What do you guys think? Are we up to an exercise challenge?

Everyone set your own personal goals of exercise for the week. We are all at different levels. Some of us are running 12 miles....others of us are doing good to get off of the couch. So what is your personal exercise goal for the week?

Remember, the more specific and simple, the easier it is to achieve!

septembersgoal 06-13-2005 11:50 AM

My personal exercise goal for the week is...
Walk Away the Pounds, walking outside, or using the gazelle for at least 30 minutes 3 times this week. I know that's not much but exercise is a very weak point for me, and I'm trying to be realistic. If I can do more, then even better! But I want to do at least that this week.

aghiowa 06-13-2005 12:41 PM

I think my exercise goal will be to spend 1 hour a day (can be broken up) in the garden. I'll take a break on Sunday, but every other day I'll do it.

I will either hoe, cultivate by hand, or pull weeds.

Angela

Katpo 06-13-2005 01:13 PM

Mine will be a minimum of 20 minutes on the Gazelle. Today I'll also be adding some flowerbed tending.

Monday
Gazelle for 20:32 minutes, 169.9 calories, 1.4 miles
100 tiptoes, 100 squats

Tuesday
Gardening (stretching, bending, yanking on weeds, using hand hoe) for 20 minutes
100 tiptoes, 100 squats, 100 pushups against the wall

Froufy 06-13-2005 01:21 PM

Okay - is this like meant to torture me or something? Or just make me feel guilty? (cuz it's working!).

All right - I was going to put getting on and off the couch several times a day but don't think that will fly - so I will: exercise for 30 mins at least 3 times this week (probably walking). Anything more and I will probably get discouraged!

Frouf

fatgottago 06-13-2005 02:55 PM

My goal is to exercise all week at curves. I will do Monday -30 minutes on treadmill and 5 minutes on running machine, then Tuesday the curves circuit 45 min - 5 minutes on running machine, and alternate the rest of the week with different exercise equipment...... Please pray for me.... I have to lose this weight!!!!!!!

Vickie 06-13-2005 04:42 PM

I'll do 30 minutes on the treadmill at 2.9 mph (this is a slight increase for me) for at least 6 days. I'll do 7 if I can and I'll run every time I'm in the pool for at least 10 minutes.

septembersgoal 06-13-2005 04:42 PM

Welcome fatgottago! Glad to have you joining us. Are you doing the core plan? I hope I didn't miss your posts somewhere else. I've been gone for a few days and am trying to catch up.

Angela, I like your goal of gardening! Two birds with one stone, right? :D

Kathy, you are so good with the gazelle. I need to use mine more.

Frouf, sorry! I am like you, I'm setting my goal low so as not to be too disappointed with myself. I have been dreading an exercise challenge but...I guess its a necessary evil!!

So...:coach:let's get to it!

ontarget 06-13-2005 08:41 PM

my goal is to workout at curves 3 days.

lady dreamer 06-13-2005 11:48 PM

Ok, I'm in. Like frouf and septembersgoal, I think getting up off of the couch should count for something. I was actually telling a friend of mine this past weekend that even though I love all kinds of fresh cherries, I rarely buy them, #1, because they are usually expensive and #2, because I am too lazy to remove the pits or spit them out, and I refuse to swallow them. How PATHETIC!!! :o Wonder if that could count as exercise???
Anyhow, I am going to commit to 10 minutes of exercise (constant movement) three times this week. I can do just about anything for 10 minutes. If it's going well, maybe I'll shoot for 20. No, type A personality issues here when it comes to exercise!
A motivated week to all!

aghiowa 06-14-2005 09:18 AM

Well, it rained last night, so I couldn't get out in the garden this morning. Guess I'll have to find something else to do for exercise. Hmmm.

Angela

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 04:34 PM

Hey guys, asking for a favor. I intend to exercise tonight, 30 minutes on the gazelle (considering it is storming here). Would you guys ask me later if I've done it? Of course, now that I've posted it, I will feel the pressure. ;) Thanks.

Katpo 06-14-2005 04:38 PM

I'll pound you on the head!! :rollpin: I mean ... I'll ask you later!

Froufy 06-14-2005 04:57 PM

So when can we start asking? I will actually stay OFF my treadmill and not even walk outdoors as I want to be of greatest help to you in achieving your exercise goal. So I will definitely be around to see how you're doing!

Frouf:):):):)

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 05:53 PM

Thanks! I'll be getting to it a little later tonight, after I eat. I'm so hungry!
And Frouf, don't make me :rollpin: you!

Katpo 06-14-2005 07:41 PM

Have you done it yet? Have you? Have you? Huh? Huh? Are you done yet?

ontarget 06-14-2005 07:48 PM

i haven't gone to curves or done any exercise yet. i may try to treadmill a few minutes. i'm bad. i've been using these feet as an excuse. that's not good.

melissa, we need to get our motors going, don't we?

Katpo 06-14-2005 07:58 PM

I did my flowerbed duties tonight, so that's going to count. I sweated my pants off ... no literally, I did! I was dripping wet when I came in and could barely get my jeans down, but I did and threw them in the wash immediately along with the rest of my clothes. My heart is still pounding a teeny bit, so I'm waiting for a while before I decide on the Gazelle. I might just do the wall pushups, tiptoes, lunges and squats.

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 07:58 PM

OK, I'm going, I'm going!!! Kathy, you sneak-attacked me in the menu thread! I'm going already!!!

Thanks. :D

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 07:59 PM

Sandra, you could lift weight or do squats or something instead of walking, if your tootsies are hurting you.

Katpo 06-14-2005 08:02 PM

Tell Murphy he'll have to watch TV without you for a while. You can snuggle later!

I have a feeling you'll never make this request again!!!

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 08:42 PM

 Murphy refused to watch tv without me, layed behind the gazelle and I bonked him in the head. Maybe he will have learned his lesson.
I did it!!! And no, I appreciate the hounding. I asked for it, right? :D I really do appreciate it. I kept thinking that I would wait until that dancing show was on and do it then. But by then I probably would have been too tired. So THANK YOU!!

septembersgoal 06-14-2005 10:00 PM

fatgottago, lady dreamer, and Vickie...how are you doing?

Vickie 06-15-2005 08:42 AM

I did 33 minutes on the treadmill, 30 of which were at 2.9 mph. Thank God for the Gilmore girls!

septembersgoal 06-16-2005 04:21 PM

OK ladies, where are we ate? The challenge thread is waaaaaaaaaay at the bottom of the page!
I have been a slacker, I must admit. Only exercised 1x so far this week. I do plan on accomplishing my goal though. I have always been a procrastinator!!
I think I am eating way too many wpas! I thought that I was doing good...yesterday I only ate one but today 10 are on my plate! And the day before w/i too. Bad, bad girl. :sorry: I need to get more creative with my core menu I think. Especially with breakfast. But I am learning! And I am losing weight, feeling better, eating better...gotta keep it in perspective.
As for now...I want to go home!!!!

Katpo 06-16-2005 04:23 PM

I edited my original post with Monday and Tuesday nights -- didn't do anything last night, but I will Gazelle tonight and post it.

Vickie 06-16-2005 04:24 PM

I did 33 minutes on the treadmill on the 14th and 15th, 30 of which were at 2.9 MPH. Nothing today because I let myself off hook because of MRI. I will exercise 6 days this week.

Vickie 06-16-2005 04:26 PM

Melissa, what are you eating for breakfast? Do you not like hot cereal or eggs or eggbeaters? I think I have an old South Beach recipe somewhere for ff ricotta pancakes with sweet cottage cheese filling. I used to make about 6 of them and reheat three the next morning for breakfast. Would these work for you?

septembersgoal 06-16-2005 04:41 PM

Vickie, I usually eat some bland cold cereal or use wpas. If I ate at home I would probably eat eggs and turkey bacon (I still don't know if this is core) or something like that. But we all bring bfast to work and eat it here together. Maybe I should just start eating at home and having a fruit snack at work or something. I like oatmeal but am used to the instant kind. When I was doing flex I would bring a packet to work and eat it. But now I don't know. Do you make a big batch and then reheat it? I don't know why I thought that, but I've wondered if it would work. I would appreciate any suggestions. But I am kind of picky too. I can't have a lot of rich foods or citrusy fruits in the mornings, makes me sick. Thanks, you're so sweet!

Vickie 06-16-2005 04:48 PM

Even when I was working I used to bring my oatmeal to work and cook it in the microwave. I still cook it in the microwave at home (why dirty a pan?). You just need a big serving bowl because otherwise it will cook up over the edge. I use 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 3/4 FF milk, dash of salt and cook for 3 minutes on high. Then I add a cut up banana (to make it be a banana muffin!) and cook about another minute to make the banana mushy. Or...I stir in a 1/2 cup of homemade chunky applesauce and warm it up for a minute (to make it apple cinnamon spice cake!). I measure out the oatmeal, salt and cinnamon (I forgot to mention the cinnamon) ahead of time into small ziploc bowls. I usually do it ahead of time so I only have to measure everthing out once a week. You could do this for work as well. Then I measure the FF milk into this little bowl so I wouldn't have to dirty a measuring cup every day. I sound lazy, don't I!!!!

The ricotta blintzes were good too. I'd just make a 3 day batch and carry them to work in my bag and warm them in the microwave. They were great. I had an hour commute and I never made myself sick either. Believe me....the blintzes sound richer than they are!

Froufy 06-16-2005 04:49 PM

Melissa - I still have instant oatmeal for breakfast - and yes I have it at work? Would this not work for you? I just boil up some water and mix it up - I use the plain kind, but sometimes will add splenda or splash of sf vanilla syrup to sweeten it up.

Another option is to bring either ff yogurt or cottage cheese mixed w/fruit. You could certainly pack this up the night before and just munch along w/the rest of them?

Hope this works for you!

Frouf:)

Vickie 06-16-2005 04:49 PM

Oh yeah....I forgot to point out that this gives me a fruit and nearly a whole milk by the time breakfast is over.

Vickie 06-16-2005 04:56 PM

Melissa, I didn't know you'd asked about turkey bacon. I don't know why it isn't but it isn't Core according to the CFC and the CFC official corrections. Neither is turkey sausage. Must be a lot of bad fat or something.

ontarget 06-16-2005 05:28 PM

i confess. i haven't done any exercise at all. my feet have hurt all week. is that a good excuse? we will do some hiking sat/sun at a tournament feet or no feet.

Vickie 06-16-2005 07:04 PM

Sandra, I think it's a good excuse. Can you do some other non-foot activity? Anything helps!

Katpo 06-16-2005 07:05 PM

I'm just a little bothered by the "feet or no feet" stance. What are you planning on doing with your feet if they keep hurting? And how will you hike with no feet?

Okay, I'm going to try and exercise for a little while. BBL.

septembersgoal 06-16-2005 08:03 PM

Sandra, I definitely think that your foot pain is a good excuse and that you should not exacerbate the problem. I think you should find an exercise that does not use your feet. Light weights, wall push-ups, or even twisting in place (seriously, I did that a few times and felt it the next day! ).

septembersgoal 06-16-2005 08:04 PM

Vickie, I guess that I should add turkey bacon and sausage to the list of things that I eat as core but aren't really. I only have them occasionally but they are very low in points. I guess they aren't core b/c they are processed? Who knows, but I like it. :D

Froufy 06-16-2005 11:14 PM

Do your feet only hurt when walking? Would biking work? or would that also cause undue pain. I agree you should not do the walking if your feet hurt!

septembersgoal 06-18-2005 12:31 PM

I hope everyone else is doing better than me. But I might count my cleaning/rearranging today as exercise. It would sure earn some APs, even if it wasn't my specific goal for the week!!
