Then you're right, it wouldn't be Core. There's a whole list of Core soups on page 7 of the second discussion thread. It's pages and pages back, and hasn't been edited after the CFC changes came out, but it's pretty accurate for the most part.
I stick with tomato soup, Campbell's Chunky Steak and Potato, and the occasional Healthy Choice split pea soup. Otherwise, I make my own soup from leftovers like a whole lot of the others do here.
Rats, I didn't even think to check the label. I just saw beef and barley and thought it looked ok. I am more worried about the soups with potatoes added. Darn! I thought I had a healthy bowl of soup on core that day too. Oh well, at least the calories that day were probably on the low side. So I should be checking for no sugar, honey, and no oil?
Pnuts, you seem to have alot of questions about label foods. If I were you, I would go to a WW meeting/Center and buy a Complete Food Companion. It lists all generic and brand name foods and tells you whether or not they are Core. It isn't very expensive but it is worth every penny. If you don't go to meetings or have a Center near you, you can buy one on Ebay. I think it's dangerous for you to be looking at labels and trying to figure out how they decided whether or not something is Core and applying it to other things. Having said that, I looked in my CFC and Wolfgang Puck soups are not specifically included. You can do one of two things. Use the generic portion where it tells you that beef barley soup is Core or you could call the WW 800. That's how I found out that the potatoes in the soup were minimal and didn't have to be counted toward your potato allotment. You could end up slowing down your weight loss progress by eating something WW hasn't identified as Core. JMHO.
I was told that the potatoes in Healthy Choice Split Pea soup would not count as my potato serving for the day because they were minimal.
Vickie-
I used the slide for the soup calculation, which is what I always did with flex. I have the Companion book also. As you know, it is missing the Wolfgang Puck soups, however, Progresso beef and barley is 3 pts and core so I figured I could use the WP beef and barley for core too. It's true I am not all core every day because I use the points each day for non core items, counting points from the book or using the slide.
It is a bit confusing to me, I just read ground beef is only allowed once a day, which I never knew. I was counting the potatoes in soup as my potato serving for the day too. I think I will call the WW number to check on those soups.
pnuts, I feel the same way. I'm finding that the "eat as much as you like" on Core isn't really the case. The more I read here, the more things I learn that you aren't supposed to do. I think that the WW literature should explain the program a bit better.
