I've noticed I eat probably 5 to 7 points of "extras" per day, along with my sizeable Core meals. It's a wonder I lose any weight at all! I guess the APs from exercising have helped to keep things moving down on the scale.
Froufie, your lunch sounds delicious! I need to make an effort to bring my lunch but I'm so lazy. I might have to rethink my menu ... your talk of sweet potatoes makes me hungry for one. Is that scary or what?
I LOVE sweet potatoes (actually sounds like I just love food and eating in general? ha ha ha).
...and I really TRY to make sure there is enuf dinner so that there are leftovers for lunch - this is the easiest and yummiest thing to do! Bought a few (nice and BIG) portable containers in which to bring my lunch to microwave at work. My standby is canned soups (and I keep some little cans of tuna at work too)....which are easy to warm up at work in a pinch.
I do this for core reasons - but also to save $$ - since dh is not working - I RARELY brought my lunch to work before and enjoyed going downstairs in my building and wandering thru the 4 eating places to see what the "specials" were - kinda contributed to why I'm here??? (chinese food place, mcdonald's, Breeze cafe - soups/salads/sandwiches, GIANT muffins and Rosies - also soups, salads, sandwiches, chili, muffins, etc. and small grocery store). I guess I could probably find something "safe" if I really had to???
Froufy, we have several places to eat where I work as well, and it's so much more fun to go there than it is to bring your Core lunch in! I actually got some of the Campbells soup-on-hand cans in classic tomato, which I believe is Core, and brought them into work for those "I must eat!" moments.
my meals today -
breakfast: oatmeal and canadian bacon and a hb egg
lunch: out with a friend (points)
dinner: salmon and roasted potatoes, I think
I have an overhead cabinet in my cubicle that's full of food. Soup, refried beans, black beans, chili, popcorn, tuna, little cans of pineapple, my maltomeal, and a little bottle of olive oil. People marvel at my stash and some even have the nerve to ask if they can "borrow" things ... um, NO! Bring your OWN FOOD!
b: farina w/strawberries & banana
l: spinach salad (mmm) and going to try some guacamole w/baked chips (points)
d: eating out!! at a Japanese steak house. What's safe there? What's the best kind of steak to get, if I choose steak?
Hibachi steak and vegetables will fill you up! I'd stay away from the rice because they usually only have white, and the noodles if they give you any. If it's a typical hibachi place where you have the salad and soup appetizers, the salad dressing is usually ginger and will be sweet (blech!). The soup should be good though; if you don't want all the salt of the regular soup they might substitute miso soup which isn't as salty to me and has little cubes of tofu (at least the one we go to has it). I LOVE that type of place. And I would think any of the steaks would be okay, but they might also have chicken, shrimp, scallops, etc.
breakfast: coffee, toast with becel margerine
Lunch: mexican chicken casserole (planned-overs!)
snack: orange
supper: beef stir - fry, not sure what to serve it on ww spaghetti or brown rice?
lots of water and green tea!
home today but feeling better, ds came home at lunch for a nap but forced himself to go to work, i expect to see him back within the hour tho
Frannie, so what does green tea do for a person? Does it boost metabolism? Is it naturally decaf or do I have to look for decaf? I'd like to drink it cold and I think I saw it in a bottles somewhere but I don't know if it was diet and decaf.
Health Benefits of Green Tea
There are three types of tea Black, Oolong, and Green tea. The difference between the Green tea and the others is that green tea is not fermented, thus keeping in the powerful antioxidants lost in the fermenting process. Green tea also contains polyphenols such as tannins (a nutrient antioxidant) catchins (EGCG which is a powerful antioxidant), and flavenoids, as well as other vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C. The antioxidants help your body fight against free radicals, which can mutate cells and make you sick.
Numerous scientific discoveries have also linked green tea with remarkable disease preventative properties. Gargling with green tea has been shown to inactivate the flu virus, as has drinking a cup each day to activate the polyphenols (powerful antioxidants) that are also suspected to work well against both the cold and flu viri. As China permits greater access to its interior to scientists, reports grow of entire villages in the green tea growing regions where cancers and sicknesses are statistically lower than the national norm. Though such studies are best classified as emergent, green tea is becoming widely viewed as one of the superfoods of the future.
If you're thinking of adding green tea to your diet, we recommend one of the wellness samplers that give you a variety of flavors and effects to sample.
Here are just a few known health benefits of drinking green tea:
Boosts your immune system
Lowers blood sugar
Helps prevent cavities and tooth decay
Slows the aging process
Helps reduce the risk of cancer
Lowers cholesterol
Aids in weight loss by burning calories
Reduces high blood pressure
Prevents arthritis
Reduces the risk of heart disease
Reduces the risk of stroke
Lowers the risk of blood clot
Wow, Kathy. Thanks! This is pretty impressive information. I thought I had read that it would help with metabolism but it could help with my high blood pressure and high cholesterol too. Now I just need to be careful that I pick a decaf variety. I'm gonna be out shopping for it this weekend. Hope it tastes good!
