Confused on Core.

  • HI! I hope someone can help. I am a little confused on the Core (just got my food list yesterday). How much are you supposed to eat? The WW leader said - eat as much as you want of the Core foods but that didn't sound right. As much as I want seems like it will get me in trouble!! Did I misunderstand her? I realized when I left I have the food list but I don't have the booklet she gave us. Help!

    I am vegetarian - does anyo ne follow Core as a veggie? WW leader says it IS possible!

  • In your materials did you receive a comfort level chart? It's in the beginning intro to Core. If that's the one you left at the mtg., maybe this will help:
    The idea is to find a comfort zone of feeling satisfied and not starving. If you think of really really hungry at one end and Thanksgiving stuffed full at the other end, you want to keep yourself somewhere in the middle. I agree that portions do count, but you're able to eat what you need to stay satisfied. Good luck. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

    NO! Eat till you are satisfied. Being Full and being Satisfied are two different things.
  • I always promise myself that if I am still hungry in 30 minutes, I will eat more. I am was to the "STUFFED" feeling. I use my wait 30 minutes promise to learn to find out what I am really hungry for.
  • WW uses the term "satisfied" but recognizing when you are full is also an important part of the plan. You also need to follow the healthy eating plan given - 5 servings of fruit and/or veggies a day, 2 dairy (unless you are over 50 then its 3), use portion control on the meat, limit potatoes or rice to one serving a day. Drink your water. Portion control is also going to come into play as you progress--the idea (as I see it) is to learn what is appropriate to eat at a meal, eat that amount, recognize that you are satisfied or "full" if you want to think of it that way and then not eat again until you are truly hungry. I personally do use the "full" factor. I know when I have had enough and pushing anything else in is going to make me feel miserable, in more ways than one. Leaving food on the plate is ok. Next time, dish out a little less until you recognize how much you really need to eat to be satisfied or full.

    You also have to learn to distinguish between "wanting" something to eat and true hunger. Eating until satisfied or full is not the same thing as "eating all you want" past the point of feeling full or excessive portions of any one food. But you don't want to feel like you are "starving" all the time either.

    Don't worry. You will learn it quickly enough. Ask your leader for another copy of that first booklet. You will need it.

    I am not a vegan but I do not really care for meats so most of my meals are built around veggies and fruits. I eat only enough meat to get my protein in and to help me feel satisfied. I find CORE is very good for me in that way.

  • I agree with Janette. Wanting to eat is a totally different issue than feeling satisfied. I wouldn't be overweight if I only ate when I was actually hungry. It took a little while for me to become accustomed to figuring out how much it takes to satisfy my hunger, but I feel so proud of myself now that I can. If you are the type of person who eats out of boredom (like me) it might be difficult at first to "not eat" whenever the feeling hits but it got better for me after about the first week and a half.
