Weekly Chat Oct. 25-31

I hope you don't mind me starting the weekly chat.

I got up a little early today and still drinking my coffee. Suppose to get up to 90 today with a hot week ahead.

jojo, loved the guided tour. Sorry for the drugs, but they are everywhere these days. I don't see them, but I know they are out there. It's so sad. Can't wait for the next leg of our journey. I assume you are in the UK.

Maryann, sorry the knee started acting up again. Best of luck with our MRI. My last one was an open MRI. Can't handle the enclosed ones. Last closed one, they had to bring me out early, then I had to go back in. Oh my. I have claustrophobia.

Sandra, how wonderful to lose your belt, lol. I wish I could say the same, but I'm going to have to shop for bigger clothes if I don't get serious soon.

Rhonda, one good thing, you will get your walking in for the day. I am sick of the nasty commercials too.

Sloan, hope things settle down so you can join us.

Today is laundry and need to vacuum and dust. Hope everyone has a great week.

misscoffee 10-25-2010 08:59 AM

Hello everyone, I'm new to 3FC, but not new to Weight Watchers.
I've been doing Flex for a year [Oct 2008-2009] lost 60 lbs, but went off the wagon for a year and gained back 10 lbs.

My diet is mostly plant based, but a lot of my proteins/beans/grains did add up after while, so I thought the switch to core would be perfect!

I am still a little confused as I saw on previous forums that things such as balsamic vinegar was core. I was also wondering if something like reduced fat Tzatzitki(sp?) is Core, 3 tablespoons @ 50 calories and 1g fat and 1 g fiber. I usually only have 1-2 tablespoons with pita (which I know isn't Core).

Is there any breads that are core? Or do they tend to keep that off the list?

Another question is about the WW pasta, potatoes or rice once a day. If I have one of those, does that mean I cannot have cereal once a day either?

Also - is there a better list for dairy free items? I imagine plain almond/rice/hemp milk would be the equivalent to the 'soy milk, plain' in the SF food list?

Sorry for all the questions!

Vickie 10-25-2010 10:11 AM

Good Morning Chicks! Sorry to have abandoned all of you for so long. So much has been going on here and I just haven't felt like talking. Have you ever been in that place? It's a weird one to me as usually "talking" helps me. I'm hanging in there, no loss no gain. I've been very stressed about our health, but it seems that all is no worse than it was and nothing life threatening came out of the tests so far. We are quite grateful for that.

Our friend's Mom died and we are now frantically rushing around to make plans and find appropriate clothes that fit. I know you have all been there. Since I dieted again and quit work, I don't have a nice conservative outfit for wakes/funerals. I'll be shopping by myself today while Jim stays home to wait for the carpet cleaners to come and try to get out the 32 ounces of Dunkin Donuts iced coffee that I spilled on my carpet on Saturday. Sigh. I wish I could blame Brodie, but I can't. I was just careless and knocked it down myself. I hope it comes out or replacing the carpeting could make that the most expensive cup of coffee ever.

So off to Jenny and clothes shopping.

Be well my friends. I WILL get back here regularly and SOON.

beach bum 10-25-2010 10:50 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Got up late again so some of my chores a errand will have to be pushed off until some time during the week.

PAM-Thanks for the new pages, anyone can start them up but I for one is computer savvy and won't know how to get it started.Pam I don't know whats going on here with this knee. I have a brace on it so that the cap or the meniscus between the two bones won't move. Hope that the MRI will show and than the doctors will be able to fix it once and for all. I want to be able able to walk with my walking group again.

MISS COFFEE-Welcome :welcome2: to the thread, I wish I could help you but I not on any WW plan I just calories and portion controls. I used to be but the plans didn't work for me.

VICKIE-Welcome back, missed you.So sorry you have such a full plate on your hands right now,and sorry about your friend mom. People now a day don't really get dressed up for funeral & wakes anymore. I know I didn't when my Leo passed away. I just wore a black pair of pants with a black and white tiger print top.To my surprise my DD was wearing the same thing.Like the apple doesn't fall far from the trees.

I had my carpets cleaned in Feb and when my DGD spilled some soda on my carpet I just moped it up with paper towel and put Scot's Guard Carpet Cleaner with Oxy Spot and Stain cleaner combo.

Have to go and start my chores & errand before I go for my MRI,see you gals later

Vickie 10-25-2010 12:50 PM

Good luck, Mary Ann. I'll be thinking of you and praying that it is nothing serious.

ontarget 10-25-2010 05:56 PM

:welcome: Miss Coffee. I hope I'm able to answer your questions. Anyone who disagrees with what I'm typing, feel free to correct me.

If reduced fat Tzatzitki is close to being a balamic vinegar, I'd probably count it as CORE whether it actually is or not. As to bread--eat a high fiber bread and count the points as part of your weekly allowance points. Yes, you can have a CORE cereal once a day at a meal even if you've had rice, pasta, or potatoes on that same day. Whew! Did I do all right?

Vickie, ;) ;) ;) on getting your carpet cleaned good as new. Congratulations on needing to buy smaller clothes. That's an NSV even if you are buying them for a sad occasion.

Pam, thank you for the new pages. Even though my belt slipped, I'm still larger than you and would like to be at your weight. Just color me green.

I need to get off here now to get ready to go to OA. Ya'll have a good evening. I'm Day 139 sugar-free and decided NOT to make the sf cake afterall. Life is good.

jojo23 10-26-2010 03:32 AM

Hello Miss Coffee. Are you by any chance British??? I'm the lone Brit on this thread and have been made to feel very welcome.
Awww Maryann I'm so sorry to hear about the knee playing up.
We are planning to go to an antiques fair today ( we collect treen ie any wooden artifact) but it is a leprous day and as black as Egypt's night over towards the west, where we should be heading. On top of this, I started a cold yesterday so maybe we'll pass on the outing.
Someone noticed I'd lost weight yesterday. You can't pay for that sort of feeling can you?

Tejas 10-26-2010 12:12 PM

Vickie...Are you all right? I just read about the winds.

ontarget 10-26-2010 02:16 PM

Vickie, please check in here so we can count your fingers and toes.

JoJo, do you get tornadoes where you are? When we get those dark dark skies, it's a danger warning. :woohoo: on your compliment. I'll bet that made your day for sure. It would have mine.

Rhonda, have those storms that were here in East Texas been around Chicago?

"Biggest Loser" is on tonight. Life is good.

beach bum 10-26-2010 04:04 PM

Hi Ladies:

Had a busy morning had to go to my reg doctor for a yearly physical, and also a blood test for my 6 month cholesterol check. The doctor was funny :D today told me that I was too healthy and didn't need his assistance, and that meant that his salary will go down. He send me the results in a few days.

Had my MRI on my knee and now I have to wait for the follow up in November.Going to try to walk with my walking group tomorrow morning ,but of course I will be with the slow crowd of walkers. Don't want to over due it.

VICKIE-Thanks,The way the tech was acting I don't think its as serious as I thought it would be will see once I have my followup. I didn't have to ware my brace today so that's a good sign. I'm concerned for you also with those high winds that the radio is reporting the whole day Hope that your didn't get any damage.

JOJO-Thanks, I think its getting better with each day. Congrats on your weight loss. You did great.

SANDRA-Congrats:cheer2: on getting to your 139 day of S/F I like the idea and will work on my sodium free days instead.I just got my Dr Oz just 10 bracelet to wear and think of how i going to get my first 10-lbs off.The bracelet is to remind you that not to indulge in bad snacking or overeating. He says that just 10lbs will make a difference in your health.Going to watch the B/L also, and tape NCIS and Defenders that are on another channel.

Have a great evening

Vickie 10-26-2010 06:02 PM

Awwww....you Chicks are the best! We are hanging on for dear life here. I feel a bit like Dorothy with her little black dog. So far it's pretty darned windy but no damage. I'm glad we are in the suburbs as they say the waves on Lake Michigan are getting to 20 feet. That's pretty darned high for a lake!

The warning is on until Morning so we are staying put. Tomorrow I go out for shoes and sympathy cards.

Tejas 10-26-2010 06:33 PM

Yes, Sandra, it's the same storm system but Chicago was really hit badly. It's headed to Toronto for rush hour...probably there already. High winds and tornadoes.

ontarget 10-26-2010 07:12 PM

Vickie, I'm glad you're safe.

Rhonda, I hope the same for others in the path, especially your friends in Toronto.

Maryann, that's wonderful news from your doctor. Ain't it great!!

I napped and read all afternoon. Tomorrow I sub. Thursday we travel to the State Games. The excitement is building.

pam920 10-26-2010 08:37 PM

jojo, congrats on your weighloss. I think my friends are too kind to tell me they noticed I put all this weight back on. I see myself in the mirror and just gasp. How did this happen. Sandra, I'm a shortie, only 5'3", so anything over 150 and I look big. I used to weigh 126 till I hit peri-menopause. It's been downhill ever since.

Maryann, glad you survived the MRI. Hope you didn't overdo it with your walking group today. Great news on your check up.

Vicki, are you in Chicago? I'm originally from Michigan, so I remember those storms. The tornadoes always scared me.

My daughter called from KY and said we had downed power lines and high winds, no power. Glad I'm in FL.

Tejas 10-26-2010 10:15 PM

Tired, lots of "get out the vote" walking today. I also worked at election headquarters in the morning matching signatures on absentee ballot requests and mailed-in ballots...just assuring that the person who requested the ballot is the same person who signed the back of the ballot envelope.

Interesting, but tiring...trying to eat right.

ontarget 10-26-2010 11:04 PM

Pam, I'm 5'2". I'm a shortie, too. I'm glad you're in Florida and don't have to deal with power outages, too.

Rhonda, get some rest.

Night night, Chickies!

jojo23 10-27-2010 03:41 AM

Pam If your photo on here is anything to go by, I can't see that you have much weight to lose at all.

Vickie Glad you are OK we have been following the storm on our TV news... Awesome.

Yes, Sandra we get tornadoes but mercifuly, they are mostly small and in country areas where there is little housing. We had a bad one in London a few years ago though and also one in Birmingham.

Girls night out tonight, the last one was put off because of bad weather.

ontarget 10-27-2010 08:15 AM

JoJo, enjoy your girls' night out. I'm subbing today. Afterwards we are eating out. I hardly ever cook (almost never) when I'm subbing.

Got to go. Ya'll have a great day.

pam920 10-27-2010 09:36 AM

good morning. I made steel cut oats, so I'm set for the rest of the week.

jojo, you notice I didn't post a full body shot, lol. I carry all my weight in my belly. Enjoy your girls night out. I know you will have lots of fun.

Rhonda, we are establishing residence in Florida and we had to produce our birth certificates, and marriage license, since my name is not the same as bc, to get our drivers license. My daughter had to send me those documents. Supposedly it's a new law, that Florida has put into effect first.

Sandra, we ate out yesterday. Happy subbing.

We have a tree service here today, cutting trees and trimming others. We have literally no sun in the back and side of the house and no grass, just dirt.
The yard has been neglected for a few years before we bought it, so it's going to take some work to get it back to where it should be.

Vickie 10-27-2010 10:01 AM

Good Morning Chicks! It's just the normally Windy City here today.

My carpet where they cleaned the stain is now still stained but we have added stinky to the mix. They say it's because it's still drying but I'm not convinced. They will come back out today or tomorrow to try to clean it again. In the meantime, I've resigned myself to having to replace the whole wall to wall. Ugh. Makes me sick.

Off to buy sympathy cards and shoes.

Oh and by the way....I'm 5' 2" and well over 200 pounds. Not a pretty sight.

Vickie 10-27-2010 10:07 AM

Oh BTW, today is the 20th anniversary of my first date with Jim. It was a magical night. The rest, as they say, is history!

beach bum 10-27-2010 11:41 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Went out with my working group again,as my knee wasn't bothering me. We want to the tides beach up to the heights when there was a down pour for 20 seconds that we had to take shelter at the casino. After it stop most of us were wet,and decided to get away from beach and wind and head over to the rec center and walk around the track. Two other woman and I went home as we were drenched. Had to change from head to toe.Surprisingly my knee was fine but my back gave way. Now I fine again.

This afternoon I'm going to play canasta with my other friends. Its suppose to down pour for the rest of the day.I guess we got the storms from Vickie's area.

VICKIE-Hold on,hope the storm get weaker as we speak. I wanted for the winds to pick up but they don't predict it coming until late this afternoon.HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY for meeting your DH Jim. Have many many years together.

SANDRA-Thanks Hes a wonderful doctor and if I have any health problem he sits there and listens to me,and than answers my questions.Oh I found out at my physical that I'm not 5 foot but 5'1" could it be my osteoporosis meds are working and I gained a inch????? This makes a big difference on those BWI calculators.

PAM- My sister is deadly afraid of the MRI's,but I'm not afraid of them even than it a closed one. The lights are all around the machine and I can at see if I want to.No darkness like the old MRI used to be. This time around my legs went in first, but my head was out and I could read all the numbers that were posted on the mouth of the Machine.

Have to go get dinner done before I go to my canasta game.

ontarget 10-27-2010 07:09 PM

Maryann, so you're a growing girl? That's a good thing that your meds are helping you like that. I'm glad you got to get out today even though you got wet. Keep enjoying yourself with your friends. Makes me smile.

Pam, we had to jump through hoops to get my new passport after we got married, but it was worth it. You're going to have fun landscaping your yard.

Vickie, I'm glad you're safe and sound. Congratulations to you and Jim. How long ago was this that you had your first date together? Curtis and I first got together December 1995.

Have a good evening, Chickies. I'll catch you later. This is Day 141 SF.

Tejas 10-27-2010 10:52 PM

Congratulations, Sandra, on your continued sugar-free status. That's quite an accomplishment.

The storm did not actually hit Toronto, thank goodness.

I'm still not getting the exercise I need this week, but my eating isn't too bad. I'm just stuck again, after having lost a few pounds. I guess this is just the way it is.

Oh, I'm practicing my tap dance also....slow to learn it though. Thank goodness I have 5 weeks left.

Welcome, Miss Coffee. I hope you got the information you need.

ontarget 10-27-2010 11:42 PM

Rhonda, I need to tighten up on my eating, too. I'm sf but am eating way too many calories. I'm getting more serious after this archery championship.

jojo23 10-28-2010 03:58 AM

Me too Pam Never mind about pear shaped, I'm orange shaped!
Girls nice out was a lot of fun, but I won't be surprised if I have gained a pound or two on weigh in day.. Blackberry pavlova and cream was my downfall.
Have a good one everyone

Tejas 10-28-2010 09:00 AM

Blackberry pavlova :hungry:

Another day of "getting out the vote" ahead for me. Today I'm preparing maps for others to use, so I won't actually be walking until the afternoon...except around in circles!

pam920 10-28-2010 09:25 AM

good morning.

Sandra, I try to stay away from sugar after doing the South Beach Diet. I will have a couple small pieces of dark chocolate, but not very often. BUT, lately I've been craving ice cream. You are doing great.

jojo, glad your girls night out was a success. I had to look up blackberry pavlova. Yikes, sugar, sugar, sugar, lol.

Rhonda, I used to love to tap dance when I was a kid. No formal lessons, just loved to do it. My cousin did take lessons, he was quite good.

Not sure what I'm doing today. They are still working on the trees, should be done by this afternoon. It's been quite a job and we got a great price. I am feeling the itch to go shopping, lol

nancy237 10-28-2010 11:39 AM

Oh my ..I am in new territory with my weight and its not in the right direction !!
I am going to start journaling all my food to find out where the calories are coming from. I almost never eat sweets .. I eat low calorie meals ...
I have cheated with a bit of pizza here & there but it seems that would not
cause 5 lbs gain...
DH & I spent the last few days in WV where we met my stepdaughter.
It is so beautiful there !!
My son is coming in by train tonight for the weekend.:carrot:

pam920 10-28-2010 07:42 PM

Nancy, are you eating salt and retaining fluids? Just a thought. My weight kept slowly creeping up, and before I knew it, bam, 25 lbs. Have fun with your son.

jojo23 10-29-2010 02:26 AM

How’s the campaign going Tejas? There’s tremendous voter apathy here, with the turnout never 50% and has been as low as 20% We both have postal votes. We got them when our daughter was diagnosed just in case she had a seizure on voting day and we couldn’t get away. It’s effortless. The ballot paper comes a few weeks before, we make our crosses, put the paper in a envelope, put that in another envelope and pop it in the post. We don’t even need a stamp. Computer voting is on the cards, but I think it will be the same turnout then. Some people just can’t be bothered and they are the ones who always grumble about the government
Nancy Have a great time with your son. I’m having a difficult week, just can’t get my head in the right place diet-wise so am just coasting until Sunday morning and then it is a whole new week.

Tejas 10-29-2010 06:40 AM

Jojo: the local campaign isn't bad. There are strong differences of opinion but the county isn't engaged in the hateful and dangerous rhetoric or tactics that are going on elsewhere. Thank goodness.

I went to a cookout before a candidate forum last night and ate not one, but TWO, (small) hotdogs with chili. I haven't had a hot dog in years and I really enjoyed them. I should be ashamed to admit that

I haven't been to the gym since Monday, and I think I've just decided not to worry too much about any of this until next week when this politicking is all over. I'll do some exercising at home (push ups, core work, etc) and just let that be it for the rest of the week.

Now, Sandra and I need you to be cheering for our Texas Rangers aren't doing so well! :coach:

beach bum 10-29-2010 10:56 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Yesterday my reg doctor called and told me that I do have a torn cartilage in my left knee. He told me there 3 ways to handle this 1) nothing 2) injections 3) surgery but its up to the orthopedic doctor and me.

I was suppose to go to choir practice this morning but my knee popped again last night and I had to take a pain killer in order to get relieve.

Had a great time at our canasta game,of course my partner & I lost $1. I'm hosting the game on Nov 15, hope I will be able to make it.

Now I ust got of with the orthopedic doctors office and they told me that the doctor is reviewing all MRI's now and will get back to you if he feels you need to push you appointment up from 11/9 to an earlier date. I can walk in moderation, but must keep the brace on when doing so,and use the R-I-C-E method.

Not a good day for me as,my friend Mary's DH passed away yesterday and I trying to keep it together for her sake. Send some prayers her & her family's way as she was always there for me when Leo passed.

SANDRA-Thanks,I hope that I will be able to walk with the group next week,as we have 2 more time to meet. Can't believe this is happening to me,as I LOVE walking more than any other type of exercising.

RHONDA-I can't exercise either but I had the idea to now use extra small plates for my meals. So far it working.

JOJO-Glad you had a good time at girls night out. Speaking about shapes I'm a apple.big tummy.Have to worry about diabetes as it running in my family.

PAM-Now that you Mentioned not craving sugar on the SBD I was the same way too not craving sugar but I still on the sodium kick and that hard to lose.

Nancy-I agree with Pam it might be water retention do to hidden sodium

Have a great day, have to rest my knee.

nancy237 10-29-2010 05:54 PM

My son is off with friends to his high school,s homecoming game .
Its perfect weather here for football. Cold & crisp!!

Marann..that is awful about your knee. Let us know when you hear from the Drs
office about your appt day. I hope it can heal without surgery. My hubby had the injections for his back and they always helped for a bit.

I had my physical this am and everything is good except my weight. ..I told him eating out was a big downfall for me and he suggested that DH and I order one entree to split & a salad . We always say we should have when we see the size of the portions but then we forget to the next time .

I realized the best plan that was working for me was the 5-6 meals a day of
about 200 calories each. Here is my plan so I sorta know what I am having.

8am-egg breakfast
10 am- protein shake
12- soup & peanut butter & celery (or hummus)
2- 200 calorie meal bar (with good protein)
4- greek yogurt & nuts
6 - 200 calorie entree

nancy237 10-29-2010 06:21 PM

Oh I forgot.. My shape is the Michelin Tire man with all the rolls

Tejas 10-29-2010 06:39 PM

You folks are funny, describing your shapes!

Maryann, I'm feeling for you with your knee and now your friend's loss. I'm sorry about all of that. Hang in there.

I continued my silly eating and had a hamburger today. BUT, no beer or coke and no fries! So, that's something anyway. I'll get better tomorrow and go grocery shopping.

I'm headed off to the county square, dressed as the devil, to hand out political material! Got to have some fun sometime

I'm watching CNN about the explosive materials found in the shipment to the synagogue. So much hatred in the world....

jojo23 10-30-2010 03:40 AM

Maryann I'm sorry about the knee and your friend's loss. On December 6th we will have been married 35 years and I can't imagine life without Mark. When anything horrible happens in my life, I always know that he is there and we got through things together. I have to go into town this morning so will pop into church and light a candle for the your friend. How's the knee? I know that pain anywhere is miserable, but theleg is much the worst place to have it because you can't move around.

beach bum 10-30-2010 10:45 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Woke up,late again, its just driving crazy not being active like I was before the knee popped. Wish I could go out and help my friend with things but I can't doctors orders to rest the knee as much as possible so it doesn't tear more.

Got on the scale this morning and I up again. In order to lose you have to exercise, but if you not allowed to,what can you do.

Its getting very depressing here,my mom died 12 year ago today, and Leo 1 year this Tues and now with my friend losing her DH on Thursday.Don't think I will put my lights on for Halloween,I just want to be left alone.

So if you see me post that the reason.

pam920 10-30-2010 01:03 PM

Maryann, so sorry for your friends loss. I lost my mom in 1997. I still miss her as if she left yesterday. I had torn cartilage and had orthoscopic surgery. I had a fast recovery. The knee did not get better and a year later had a tibial osteotomy. That was a rough surgery. Hope yours can be fixed with no surgery. I know it's hard when you are used to walking for your exercise.

Rhonda, we have a chain restaurant here called 5 Guys. They make the best old fashioned burgers. I have refrained from having one, since we got to Florida, but I know it's going to happen soon, lol.

Nancy, I'm the Michelin guy too, lol. I don't think I could survive on the little you eat. Do you do any exercise? I am not consistent and I think that is my main problem. I eat right, most of the time, just hate to exercise.

jojo, an orange is smaller than a grapefruit, lol. I'm still standing in the middle of town, waiting for our next leg of the journey.

Been raking leaves. We got all the trees, trimmed, cut, etc. What a difference. Raking has been my form of exercise lately. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

ontarget 10-30-2010 08:57 PM

Maryann, I am so sorry for your sadness. My prayers are with you and your friend. Try to keep your chin up. I know your knee problems are making everything else even more painful.

I am tickled at all the shape descriptions, too. Mine is definitely apple. Curtis and I first met via telephone. he asked me to tell him a famous person that I look like. I told him "Aunt Bea" from Mayberry on "Andy Griffith." Sad, but true.

We just got home from Houston. I won the State Title for the State Senior Games. Curtis got the bronze medal for his division. We had a great time, ate too much, competed for several hours, and are now home resting getting ready for indoor season. I'm pumped!!

Nancy, enjoy your son's visit.

Rhonda, you devil, you! I'll bet you're having a lot of fun. I went to Iguana Joe's last night in Archery Competitor costume including bucket hat/gold medal.

Have a good evening, everyone. And :haphal::spid::bat::bat::bat::bat::bat::witch:, everyone!!!
