New Pages for a holiday week!!

Tejas 12-22-2008 10:24 AM

Good morning everyone:

It's a sunny, cold day here in Toronto. I'm headed off to do some errands, go to a movie, and take Jake, the dog, to the vet to get his leg checked out. He stumbled as he climbed the stairs this morning :(

Have a great day! BBL

Rhonda

Vickie 12-22-2008 10:26 AM

Rhonda, I hope Jake will be ok.

nancylmrn 12-22-2008 12:39 PM

Happy Holidays all. It is ver cold here too with lots of snow. Are you all ready for the festivities? I still have some last minute stuff to do but I am not ready to brave the icy roads right now.

Just a question for you all. How do you handle the ups and downs of wi's? It seems I do fine during the week, making mostly good choices and for the poor ones (treats mostly) I have planned for yet some weeks I stay the same or even gain. How do you stay motivated?

beach bum 12-22-2008 12:55 PM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Moving my post from the old thread to the new one.

Can't believe that the sun is shinning and the ice is melting off the roof tops, but the winds are still howling and are expect to die down some time this evening.

Thanks Ladies We hope that our trip is still on,our DD called right when I was posting, and said that GS still has a fever and hes coughing up flem. She told us that he doesn't know how to blow his nose and keeps it in,until he throws it up.She going to sterilize the house as much as she can,but she understands if we don't go down. She asked if we come down for New Years instead, but Leo has a doctors appointment than.
SO ITS STILL UP IN THE AIR.

Got on the scale today for my new Monday W-I day and I'm up 1 more pound.making it a total of 4 since Thanksgiving. Boy do I have to work on this weight next year.Looked at at my W-I journal & I noticed that I gained big pounds every year I go on those cruises.NO MORE CRUISES FOR ME.

Have to go ,have to get things done just in case we are going down to NY tomorrow.

Tejas 12-22-2008 04:58 PM

Dear Nancy:

I think most of us have highs and lows with motivation, and with WI's. But as long as we are on the right path most of the time, it will work out. We may not reach weight goals, but we will eat better food and move more often...and be happy for that.

Good luck!

Rhonda

Tejas 12-22-2008 04:59 PM

Jake has hip dysplasia and/or arthritis. He gets x rays tomorrow. Sigh...

Vickie 12-22-2008 05:54 PM

Poor boy. How old is he?

beach bum 12-22-2008 06:50 PM

Hi Ladies :)

Just got off the phone with my DD & I wanted to let your know that that the trip is on,DGS's fever broke and hes feeling like himself again. She waited until the girls got home from school and they are OK.

She told us that if they come down with anything during the night she will let us know before we make the long trip down.

So far its looks like we are going down to NY to spend some quality time with the family.

Have to get packed,so I bid you a good night, and I see you next Saturday.

WANT TO WISH YOUR ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY HANUKKAH

Tejas 12-22-2008 09:45 PM

Maryann...have a safe and fun trip.

Vickie, Jake turned 10 in November. He weighs about 74 pounds and has the skinniest legs and ankles ever. I'm surprised he has been upright as long as he has. Hopefully, whatever he has will be responsive to medication.

Rhonda

Vickie 12-22-2008 10:13 PM

I'll keep him in my puppy prayers.

Tejas 12-23-2008 09:40 AM

Thanks, Vickie! I know you love puppies! He's at the vet now.

How is everyone today? I'm headed out to do some last-minute shopping before it gets too crazy.

Rhonda

Vickie 12-23-2008 10:59 AM

4-6 inches of snow here. Not going anywhere.

Tejas 12-23-2008 05:17 PM

Hi All:

Running errands this morning was easy, but as the day went on, it got a little crazy. However, I got all that I needed, had no trouble parking, didn't have any accidents, so all is well. It's snowing again so those poor commuters are going to have a slow trip.

I have all my Christmas presents for everyone wrapped and ready. Thank goodness I don't have to buy many; I'd never get it done! I did a lot of baking for my ex father-in-law and that's the best present ever.

Jake has oestoarthritis of the spine at the lumbar sacral junction. He will take Metacam then get checked in three weeks. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and can be hard on the stomach, liver and kidneys....but it could be worse. So, for now, we're relieved.

I've been a little crazy with my eating the last two days, but with all the baked goods around, I've probably done fairly well considering the temptation.

I hope you all have a good night. I made a beef stew with white kidney beans in the crock pot, and I'm looking forward to it.

Rhonda

blessedwithsarah 12-23-2008 06:05 PM

Hi everyone. Its been really busy getting ready for Christmas -- between getting everything ready on top of the snow and ice, its been crazy. I'm doing my best food wise and I'm back on plan, hard core on Friday. I think thats the best I can do this week. Just too much going on to be perfect, but I'm doing my best.

Just in the past 3 days, I've been out to lunch 2 days, dinner 2 times, made and decorated sugar cookies with dd, made a batch of brownies and tomorrow I need to go to a local candy store to buy a few more things. I hope everyone is doing well.

Rhonda, I'm sorry to hear about your puppy. Our lab was on arthritis meds for a while - they did help him but after about 3 months he ended up with a very bad case of diarhea. So bad we needed to take him off for a while. We've been able to give him the pills once in a while when he seems bad. I've been giving him gloucosaime pills for dogs and those seem to have made a lot of difference. I hope you dog is ok, they are our babies.

Maryann, hope you are on your way to NY.

Merry Christmas to all my chickie friends!!!

ontarget 12-23-2008 09:55 PM

Rhonda, I'm sorry to hear about Jake. I know he's in good, loving hands. My eating's been a little out of kilter the last 2 days, too, but could have been much much worse.

Maryann, I am sooooo glad you're getting to go to dd's. Have a fun, safe trip.

Paula, my wi is Friday. I'm expecting a gain, too. Oh, well, life goes on.

Vickie, it's been cold here but we haven't gotten any snow. Thank goodness we haven't gotten ice either. That's the biggee down here.

Nancy, I'm not a good one to comment on staying positive. I've had a lot of "oops" the last several months. Some lasted weeks.

Vickie 12-24-2008 08:23 AM

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah to all my Chickie friends who celebrate!

coco99 12-24-2008 09:50 AM

Hi Everyone
Just a quick "HELLO" to everyone.
I cant believe it is Christmas already. Where has time went.
I will have to catch up with everyone later.
Have to get ready and start my Christmas Eve running.
I go to my Uncle's. Then I go to my Aunt's. Then will come home. Son has to work part of the day. Then we will go to hubby's sister for supper. So that is my day today.
Tomorrow we will go to my parents.
I weighed in on Monday. Got a surprise. My scales said I had gained 3 lbs. But on the WW scales I lost two. So I will have to be really good the next couple of days. To make sure it dont catch up with me next week.
It will be hard. My Mom is already telling me. It wont hurt to eat more on the holidays. So that is going to be hard. But I guess I will have to use my assertive tool tomorrow.
Well I wish everyone a Happy Christmas Eve.
Thinking of everyone.
coco

Tejas 12-24-2008 01:29 PM

Hi Everybody:

Wow, it's Christmas Eve already. We've got a slushy day here in Toronto. I might go see my former MIL in the nursing home, but I'm watching the weather.

I woke up and must have had 10 points of chocolate and nuts before I stopped myself! (Coco, I must have been listening to your mother!!!) Of course, I shouldn't even have it in the house! But, I did stop and had cereal and a banana. I think I'm under control for the day :crossed:

Poor Jake felt so bad last night that DH stayed with him all night. Getting to our bedroom requires navigating stairs and we just couldn't leave Jake all alone on another level of the house (he usually comes to our room). I couldn't believe that DH slept on the too- short couch and in the recliner. He's asleep in bed now, well deserved, and I'm with Jake. The good news is that the meds are working with Jake. For now, he feels better. I won't let him on the stairs, and we'll see how he is tonight.

I'm making a ham for dinner and we have some sparkling wine. I better make today an :exercise: day for sure!!!

BBL,
Rhonda

TechAlum 12-24-2008 01:31 PM

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to disappear for a while. Everything that's been going on for the last year just seemed to crash in on me and I had a hard time doing anything even getting up off the couch was a chore. I actually considered talking to the dr. about going back on meds. But it seems to have passed, so I'll hold off for now.

I can't believe that tomorrow is Christmas, I have so not been in the holiday mood. DH and I decided that it was because we missed most of the fall. May 2009 be way better than 2008 was.

Just popped in to let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, I'm hoping to be back regularly starting next week.

I also want to wish everyone a :clause: Merry Christmas :coolsnow: (or whatever holiday you celebrate if you celebrate)

Having trouble with internet...BBL

Tejas 12-24-2008 01:36 PM

Hmmm, I wanted to edit my earlier message but the function wouldn't work.

Tech, great that you got in touch with us. We miss you. Have as good a holiday as you can muster. It's important to have some joy, even if it is muted by the problems of life.

Rhonda

Tejas 12-25-2008 08:48 AM

Merry, merry Christmas!!

ontarget 12-25-2008 02:01 PM

Merry Christmas, Chickies! We went over to my son's this morning to see what Santa had brought the girls.

Coco,I have been listening to your mother, too. Oh, well, life goes on.

Donna, This has been an extremely difficult year for you and dh. I am not surprised you had a meltdown for awhile. I'm glad you're getting back to your old self. Hang in there.

Rhonda, I knew Doyle was a good man. Tell him I am proud of him. (but don't wake him up to tell him.)

Tejas 12-25-2008 02:26 PM

We got the best Christmas present of all...Jake is OK on the stairs again. And, he goes outside and plays in the snow, almost as if he isn't hurting! I took him for a walk for the first time in days, and he was very happy.

ontarget 12-25-2008 09:20 PM

That's wonderful news, Rhonda. :woohoo:

Vickie 12-25-2008 10:55 PM

Yay Jake!

Don't ask what I ate. Ugh....and more tomorrow. I think I can be in control tomorrow. My tummy is sick.

healtheeme 12-26-2008 08:13 AM

So....today is my first day of Core. This is my 3rd time using WW (I gained weight with each baby, lost, then gained with the next baby). I've always used Flex but this time I've felt such resistance that I think the Core approach will be best for me. At least I'm hoping that's the case!

I'll weigh in on Mondays, though I did weigh myself today just out of curiosity. I'm happy to report that I've gained 5 pounds since Thanksgiving...ugh! I have to get back on track.

blessedwithsarah 12-26-2008 08:19 AM

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone had a glorious holiday -- Christmas was very nice this year. DD is at the perfect age. She ended up singing in the children's chior on Christmas eve services. No rehersals, she was given the words and got up and joined. They did Away in the Manger and Silent night. She went to bed at 8 and was asleep right away. I thought we were all set for the night. NO such luck. Up at midnight wanting to know if it was midnight since thats when Santa comes. I told her no just as the clock donged midnight. Then at 2 am she needed to go to the bathroom. When I brought her down she asked if Santa came, I said I didn't know but she couldn't check until it was morning. Needless to say she didn't really need to go the bathroom. Then at 6am she wanted to come into bed with us, when we said good morning she realized it was morning and we were all up. It was great to see her so excited. Then late morning we went to my MILs for the day.

It was tiring but wonderful. I'm just very glad I'm not working today. My new toy is an IPod for when I go walking. I've already added songs!

Rhonda, so glad Jake is OK.

Vickie, I hope you are feeling better.

Tech, I'm glad you were able to shake off the glum mood without meds. May 2009 be a better year for you and DH.

Coco, I think I may be with you on the gain. I'm just not getting on a scale until some time next week. Today I'm back to hard core.

Have a great day everyone!

Tejas 12-26-2008 02:50 PM

:welcome2: Healtheeme. This is a good place to be!

We had a great dinner last night. The food was too rich, served too late and kept me up last night

I am taking it very easy today, reading mostly. And, with the eating....very, very modest!

Thanks for the kind words about Jake. I passed them on and he was very appreciative ;)

Have a great day today.

Rhonda

ontarget 12-26-2008 07:07 PM

:welcome: healtheme.

Paula, that is so cute about dd's getting up all night. I hope you got some rest today, though.

I think we're all glad that most of the temptations are behind us. One more week then back to normal.

Vickie 12-26-2008 08:25 PM

So we had a HORRIBLE ice storm this morning. You'll see us on the news. There are cars spinning out on I-80 which is a main highway less than a quarter mile from my house. The temperature has been rising all day. Now we have terrible fog and we are to have heavy rains, thunderstorms, and possibly tornado warnings tomorrow. The huge piles of snow and ice are expected to melt in addition to the rain. Flooding is a HUGE concern. December has been a truly tough weather month.

I can't control the weather but I can control me. Now when will I start doing that?

Tejas 12-26-2008 08:49 PM

Vickie: I've just seen the weather reports and was thinking about you. I've got friends on the west coasts of the U.S. and Canada and they are having lots of trouble too, but I think you folks are really getting hit. I hope you stay dry. As for "when?"....no time like the present! ...for all of us!

Paula, I enjoyed your story about your DD also....sweet!

Rhonda

ontarget 12-26-2008 11:01 PM

Vickie, stay safe. You'll get back on track when you're ready. The wake up call for me was that my feet started hurting again. We went to a tournament in Dallas that was along a walking trail. My feet hurt even though the terrain wasn't too steep. You're right about our not being able to always control what goes on around us, but we can control how we react.

Rhonda, I meant to ask you if you've finished your remodeling.

I had wi this morning. I maintained this week.

ontarget 12-27-2008 05:33 PM

Oh, my. So I won the prize for last/first. Now how amazing is that?

I hope all of you are out there having a wonderful Saturday. We're staying at home. I'm trying to stay out of the fridge. Looks like I'm using some WPA's todeay. Life goes on.

Tejas 12-27-2008 08:11 PM

We had a great day today. We watched DVD's at home then went to see Marley and Me. In between I cleaned up 1/2 of the kitchen. I'll do the other 1/2 tomorrow. You'd really laugh if you knew how small my kitchen is!

My eating was OK from a points perspective, but not a Core perspective since that pie I had for lunch is a no-no. But breakfast and supper were low calorie and Core. Tomorrow will be better.

I fell on the ice yesterday and banged my head quite hard. Thank goodness I had on my very thick woolen hat. I am quite sore and didn't exercise yesterday or today. Maybe tomorrow for that too!

Hope you're all having a great day.

Rhonda

ps: No, Sandra, we're not through with the renos. But, the bathroom is done now.The next big step is new flooring on one level....will do that in the spring. After that it is mostly painting that we have left to do.

coco99 12-27-2008 08:18 PM

Hi Everyone
Belated Merry Christmas to everyone.
And a early Happy New Year.
So sorry I havent been on here.
Just running around too much. And trying to get too many things done. And not getting anything done either.
We had a nice Christmas. Dinner with my parents was ok. I did have to tell my Mom. That no I wasnt taking a bunch of leftovers home. I did bring a few things. But just enough for a little lunch yesterday. She wanted to send cookies home. Told her No I dont want them. But said son might them. So ask him. And he said yes. He wanted some. So told him. Whatever he brought home. He had to put out of sight. And he did.
Christmas Eve dinner was ok. No pressures. And no leftovers.
I will have to go and read to catch up on everyone.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.
Maybe now I can get on here more over the weekend.
Thinking of everyone
coco

ontarget 12-27-2008 10:05 PM

Rhonda, ouch! I'll bet you are sore. I hope you're not in too much pain. Your kitchen must be spotless. I need to work on mine.

Coco, sounds like you handled things well. Congratulations.

I just had some popcorn and a Diet Coke. That's the end of my eating for today. I used several WPA's. The funny thing is I was thinking today was Monday for some reason and thought I just had 3 more days to my week before wi. Do ya'll ever get mixed up on the days? Guess I had a senior moment.

pattygirl63 12-27-2008 11:37 PM

Hi Ladies,

I haven't been here for a few days. It has been a long week already. Thoroughly enjoyed the company, but am equally glad everything will go back to normal tomorrow as the head back home to their normal life. I am worn out. I think DH and I are fighting off a sore throat we caught from our youngest DGD. And I'm also having problems with my gum where my tooth was pulled. Taking an antibiotic the dentist gave me in case I needed it while on my trip before he pulled it since I couldn't get in touch with anyone during the holiday. So we aren't going to church tomorrow. As soon as my company leaves, I'm going back to bed.

Rhonda -I've been trying to stay OP too and points wise I've been okay, but not always healthy foods. It is difficult with so many here and they are eating my foods which is good too. So will have to hit the store in a day or two to restock veggies, fruit and dairy. But I'm not complaining because I don't think they don't get them as much as they should so they really enjoyed them. So tomorrow will be my day back OP with more Simply Filling foods. I'm sure I will have some kind of a gain this week. Rhonda - bless your heart. I hope you are okay. No you shouldn't exercise until you get the soreness out and youu know you're okay. I know I have made the mistake of exercising after falls and did more harm for myself than good. So take good care of yourself.

Sandra - Don't you just love those senior moments?:dizzy: Yes I do that too... lose a day or gain one and forget which day it is. I've been off a day one way or the other for 2 days now. My WI is Monday and I just hope I haven't gained too much.

Vickie -I've been seeing all that horrible weather you are having. Hope things get better soon.

Healtheme -:welcome3:

coco, Paula and anyone else I missed-

Catch ya again soon.

Tejas 12-27-2008 11:38 PM

Coco...good for you!!! :congrat:

Nope, Sandra, never had a senior moment in my whole life

Trish, I'm sore in areas I didn't even know existed!

Vickie, are you de-iced yet? We had a strange weather effect today. There is deep snow everywhere but the temperature went up to the mid 40's. There was mist rising up off the snow, making the surrounding area foggy.
