Core Question -- Beans?

  • I have always, always avoided the Core program just because I didn't really understand it and Flex was working for me. Well, I'm now down to losing weight after my 3rd and last baby and this time Flex is not really working for me. So, I'm seriously considering going to Core. I've read all my materials and have one question for now (bear with me, I may have more!):

Beans -- do they really have to be dried? I know, I know, the answer most likely is Yes. But I am a bean eater and beans out of the can have always been my staple so I'm experiencing serious resistance :lol

If they have to be dried, any of you have any ideas for quick & easy ways to cook them up? Using a crock pot maybe?

    Thanks!
  • Beans in the can are Core.
  • There is no more Core plan. It is now the Simply Foods option. Beans in a can are fine. I like to rinse them well because that removes a lot of the starch in the liquid and cuts down on gas (for me).

If you want to cook dried beans, its cheap and easy. Rinse the beans and look through them for any bad ones (rarely found). Cover with water 2 inches over the beans. Bring to a boil. Put the lid on and turn off the heat. Let sit for an hour. Drain and continue with your recipe. The directions are on the bag.
  • thanks, folks - that helps!

I know they've switched to Simply Foods, but I have all the materials from Flex/Core from when I lost weight after my last baby. I don't have the $$ to go buy more materials to learn about Simply Foods, so I'm sticking with Core!
  • Me too for the moment! Open those cans.
  • Welcome to Core then!
    Your going to love it!
Doing Core is a great way to learn to eat healthy and lose weight in the process.
I did Core two years ago, lost 24 lbs, then got pregnant and now I am trying it again. I started 12 days ago and I already lost 6 pounds so I am really excited!
I am also doing it on my own for $ reasons.
I hope you feel comfortable as well with this program.
Keep us up to date with your progress!
  • About the only thing that changed from core and simply filling foods is the name. So even if you are following core, you are also following simply filling foods.
Another change (and this is for both the momentum and the simply filling plan)is you don't have to drink 6 glasses of water a day, you have to drink 6 glasses of liquid, whether it be soda(pop), milk, tea or water. If the liquid has calories, you still have to count it, but you can use it towards your liquid. Even coffee is considered a liquid and also soda(pop) with caffeine. At first they said alchol could also be counted towards your liquid(which I thought was odd), but a few weeks later they changed it and said it should no longer be considered toward your liquid.

So no need to spend $$ to learn about the "new" plan, it's pretty much the same old plan with a new name.
