We have a newbie named Sue introducing herself in another thread. I've suggested that she just come on over to the chat line.
I haven't even opened this morning's paper yet. What'cha bet there's pictures of flames shooting in the air, firefighters and people looking distraught. I saw the pictures on CNN last night. Wow. Now the recriminations start about why a propane plant was in a residential area.
I woke up really motivated. Who's going to start the challenge for the week??
Hi, everyone - I'm taking Rhonda's advice and jumping into the chat! Looks like we've got several other Texans in the group - must be all that good food down here!
Well... actually, I'm not originally a Texan - I'm from New Orleans, but after Katrina, we decided to make a fresh start near Houston, where my husband's sisters were already living. And we like it here - friendly people, and great Tex-Mex ! We do miss all that good New Orleans food, though - thankfully, my DH and I are both good cooks... which I guess is why I'm on WW to begin with!
Hi everyone. Only 5 days till we leave for the beach in Maine. I can't wait!!!! I've been getting things together but can't really start packing things until after my cleaning lady comes tomorrow. I don't want stuff in her way. I'm going to make carrot cake muffins and freeze those and boil up all the eggs left in my fridge. I'll go shopping Friday night for fruit - its about a 2 1/2 hour ride so I figure a bag of fruit should be OK on the ride up.
Otherwise, just trying to stay in control this week as I want to stay core next week - but I am bringing a box of wine and my niece her blender and margarita machine!!! So, if I do good with food, that will offset the alcohol??
Welcome Amy and Sue!! Its a great board, looking forward to getting to know you.
Can someone post the weekly challenge the next few weeks? Not sure how much I'll be around this week with working and getting things ready.
Paula - silly you - everyone knows that alcohol while on vacation doesn't count - esp if you stand while drinking it
I am not really focused on my eating and trying to convince myself NOT to skip the gym tonight (might to tomorrow as dh is home this evening but will be out tomorrow so won't get to see him so might plan gym then?). Eating cheetos - at least they are the baked kind..... Have some LO chicken in fridge so will have that for dinner.
And a special WELCOME to amy and sue - have visited NO years ago and can atest to the fabulous food!
Sue..Oh, the Cajun food in NO...oh my, how I miss it. Now, I spent many many years in Houston. There was a real hole-in-the-wall place to eat by the Univ. of Houston that had the best "dirty rice" anywhere, ever. I'll try to remember the name of it. Where are you generally in Houston? I lived various places, mostly in the SW part of town. My dearly departed sister lived various places also, most recently in Meyerland. I started going to Houston when I was 10, moved there when I was 17 and left when I was 30. I visited innumerable times after that. I know Houston really well; consider it my second home. I hope you like it even though you must miss NO a great deal.
Paula, have a great trip...I'll start a challenge if no one else does.
Welcome, welcome, welcome to all the new chicks! We're glad to have you with us. This is a great group
Well, I made it through the first full day of the 08-09 school year. It is the first time in 11 years that I don't have one of my own children here with me. It's sad, but also kinda nice. My dd is leaving for school next week. She'll be about five hours away in Johnson City, Tennessee. My ds will be attending community college and living at home for a while, so my nest will not be empty, yet. I'm trying my best to allow ds to sink or swim this year. He made good grades in high school, but I was always on him to study. I think it is his turn to take responsibility; I'm tired.
We had a "Black to School" party for all of our college bound family members last night. We all wore black to signify our mourning over summer's ending. It was so much fun. We had balloons and pennants to represent the five colleges that they will all be going to attend. Of course, we ate too much food, but the family time was very special.
Since I am overwelmed with the "first day fatigue", I'm going to go home, and I'll check in on you guys tomorrow. Hope you all have a good night. TTFN
Last posting today as we had to go to the chemo center,What a day!!! A Day form****I'm just glad its over.
We got there at 9 AM for the blood work and than following the chemo was going to start we didn't see the doctor or get into the chemo lounge until 11:30 2 hrs later. The Doctor was angry at his secretary for us waiting that long, and than when I told them If I could stay with Leo while he as having chemo they told me yes of course you can,but I told them that I wasn't allowed they last time we came. The doctor nurse really blew steam.
Well Leo's treatment than was changed as his feet were burning & he couldn't walk.We found out that the drug Taxin was going to cripple him,so they took him off and now are trying a new drug called Gemcitabine,it less toxin on the body. Can you imagine,a drug that can cripple a patient, how scary is that.
Brought my lunch to the center and its wasn't core proof.thank goodness I have 21 WPA's to play around with.
Just wanted to let you know why I wasn't on the board today, have to start dinner will post tomorrow.
Paula, I'll bet you're getting really excited to go on vacation. It's always so nice to get away! But it's also nice to get back home as well. Have a great time!
I've only been to Texas once, and never been to New Orleans. Maybe some day.
BB, My dbf always tells me, it's the "practice" of medicine. They don't really know what they are doing half the time. I can't believe you weren't allowed to be in the room with your dh the last time, but now they say it's ok. Very strange. At least it's all been taken care of now.
Frouf, sure wish drinking didn't count, when you were on vacation. I think part of my gain last week is from having drinks . Gotta have some cocktails while resting and relaxing and having fun!!! That's a must!!!
Sloanie, your school starts early! Our kids don't go back until the end of August!
Rhonda, isn't that where you want to get back to when you retire? Or are you thinking somewhere else in Texas?
Sue and Amy, click on this and it will help you out with any acronyms that might be used in here (such as dh, dd, ds, TOM, etc.
Tracie: we're going to move to Denton, just 30 miles north of Ft. Worth. It's closer to family than Houston is.
Maryann: stand your ground to be with your DH at all times...whenever he wants you there. The health care professionals can get too overworked and tired and forget the importance of support for the patient sometimes.
Sloanie, I love the mourning for the end of summer. I think we might have to do that here in Toronto because it never seemed to really come!
Maryann-sounds like the change in chemo will be better for Leo. It's good that he wants to get out!
Tracie-we do start early, but we get out around May 20.
Rhonda- the party was really fun! Even my 75 year old parents wore black for the occasion.
I'm hanging in there with core. I've had a couple of days this last week that were out of control, but I'm back in the saddle. I'm drinking my water today, and will start walking with my friend tomorrow. Also, will all of you "prayin' " chicks pray for my dh? His name is Vance. He has issues with diabetes, heart meds, and joint pain. He's been feeling really bad lately, and it's getting him down. There is nothing specific going on, he just feels yukky. His doc has started treating him for depression, but he's still gloomy. I'm concerned about him!
