This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.
Friday! We have a short day at work today. Its employee appreciation day so the office is closing at 1:00. Maybe I can get some unpacking done on the kitchen and bathroom. And pick up a horse. And maybe plant some flowers. Problem is not having all my gardening equipment. Or maybe just lay on the couch.
I think I finally got the living room furniture settled. I moved it around a couple of times last night.
Starting to feel like home. I could do laundry last night. And we have all the new appliances in place so the kitchen looks much better. All great movement.
Food has been pretty good at night this week. Eating much healthier and eating less. Lunch has been the problem since I'm not stocked for healthy lunch foods yet. Been eating out of the cafeteria at work. And slipping back into the snack machine habit. I have been getting a good fruit cup though - fresh grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, and honeydew. Delicous!
I've done okay with getting the exercise started again. I am having allergy problems so I'm not real rambunctious in the mornings. More like I'm in a daze. So I haven't been getting really calorie busting activity going to start the day. Hopefully next week I can build on what I'm doing this week.
This weekend I'm going to a horse trainer clinic on Saturday. This is someone that I really like to watch and have several of his videos (aussie Clinton Anderson) and had thought about going. But had decided not to spend the money or take the time - until I got two free tickets in the mail. My name was drawn from previous buyers off his website. How cool is that? I'm going with a friend from work who also has a horse. Its an all day event so not as much will be accomplished this weekend.
So that's about all I know today. I should go take a shower and get dressed.
Terri, Thanks for the new thread. Now I only have to answer one post right? LOL! What a nice surprise those tickets must have been. Enjoy your day. You probably need a break after all the movng and arranging. Oh yeah, what can we start a big fight about on here to get Thin back? Just kidding! I do wonder about her though.
I may not be one of the longest posting members on here, but I have been around since the first of 2005. That is kind of a long time for me...2cute. Of course I didn't make it to any of the spring flings you gals had. That would have been fun...I think. Anyways I feel like an old timer in more ways than one. LOL!
I got my report back from my blood work and everything was good. I was shocked! I thought sure everything would be out of whack. LOL! It was good news. I can always stand good news.
BJF, I think I will talk to my Dr. about further test for the thyroid. I have heard other people say that theirs wasn't found through blood work to start with. I am not sure what kind of test it would be though.
Valerie, it was good to see you, and upbeat too! I hope you get to drop in more.
OK, I know that is not everyone, but this is a new thread and I don't know who said what on the other thread to everybody.
Ruth... you are an old timer too. A special one at that.
You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the Spring Flings.
That is the difference I meant... even though I worded it clumsily. LOL
YOU and MANY others are oldtimers here... and I love each of you... but there is a special bonding when you have spent weekends together.
Next year YOU and all the others will have to come to a fling.
But not in late April... my daughter is getting married next spring.
Okay... I am off and running. Don't really have time to be in here.
See ya all later.
Baby Steps... For years we were always saying how we wished we could meet each other in person. Well, three years ago I invited everyone to come to Oklahoma where I live and have a fun weekend together.
We called it "The Spring Fling" since I planned it in the spring.
We all stayed in the same hotel and had a WONDERFUL time together.
The next year Thin and Susie hosted it in their home state.
This year ended up being cancelled because of many different reasons ... moving, babies, pregnancies, etc.... but I definitely am willing to do it here again.
The main problem is usually the money involved for people to travel since we live all over the United States and often other countries too. And to find a time that works for everyone. SO what you have to do is just plan it ... and hope everyone can come. You just can't find a "perfect" time or location for everyone.
We have had people come from Okla, Texas, Penn, Missouri, Michigan and I think Ohio ?? We would love to add Maine and Mass to this list for the next one.
Well, it seems like forever since I've posted. It's terrible how dependent we get to these stupid computers! I've felt totally lost. Seem like everything I start to do, I realize I need the compter to do it!!! And to top it all off, we signed up to Vonnage phone serrvice (the one that goes over the internet) to save money, so we've been without phone service too. It changed over while the compter was out. DS#2 is comming over this afternoon to install it. I'll let you know how it works. I hope it's not one of those things that seem too good to be true.
Well unfortunately nothing has changed in my world! Work is just as crazy. No one has been fired or left since I've been gone, but there is a long line of people who are threating to leave, and probally a few on the chopping block too. I made the statement in the lunch room the other day that my internet freinds were missing out on the drama!!!
I had my grandson Nathan last weekend and that was fun. It's hard to believe that he is 8 years old already!!!
Oh yeah this is supposed to be a weight loss group right? Well maybe you need to kick me off permanently. I haven't done anything in the weight loss area, but there is always MONDAY!!! Yeah, I'll start again MONDAY!!!
Ahhh. ...Finally a place to call home...45 and over 300
Just wanted to say hello and introduce my self quickly. My name is Leslie and I am from Washington State.
My children seem to think that I am old...45 and the scale says that I am currently 333 pounds...so it seems this is a place that I will call home on the forums.
I am actually happy to be able to know how much I weigh..since a couple of weeks ago the scale would not go up as high I needed. I have guessed that I weighted about 365 when I started. Only people who have weighed over 300 can really relate.
I can also sit more easily behind the wheel of our truck...which again is a small but gratifing feeling. Anyway...just wanted to say hello and welcome any information or suggestions. I am happy to have found this site. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Leslie
Finally a morning to be a little bit lazy. But not for long. We're going to church and need to leave at 9:30. We're still going to the church where we used to live even though its a bit of a drive. We just feel really connected there and I'm not ready to make a change.
Friday afternoon was not as productive as I had envisioned. We did go get a horse. My friend from work volunteered to come help since we all expected it to be a rodeo. So she was to meet us out there at 3 pm but was late. I put Cheyenne in the little pen they had made and DH backed the trailer up to the gate of the pen. I got into the trailer to open that pen gate and turned around to go get the feed. Before I was even out the side gate, she was stepping up into the trailer and was so calm it was shocking. I guess she was so lonely there by herself that she was going to get into the big scary thing that took her friends away. When we drove by our property, they all threw their heads up and called out to her and ran along the fence as we drove up the drive. She was glad to be back with her friends and they promptly chased her all around. I do feel bad about leaving her by herself all lonely and unhappy. But that's the mom side of me. After that was a 2 hour nap.
Yesterday was the horse trainer clinic. Awesome. I had such a good time. Although it was ver tiring. I had to get up at 4:30 am so that we could be there by 7:30. It lasted from 8 to 6 pm. Learned a lot. I really enjoy watching trainers working with horses. Its amazing to see them change. Food was terrible yesterday. Practically no water too. Zippo on the exercise.
We're not doing anything special for Father's Day today. DH's #1 son that kept the horses, came out yesterday and dropped a card off for his dad. That's a lot from him. DSS #1 just isn't a overly demonstrative kind of guy but the feelings are there and sincere. Not sure that DSS #2 even knows how to get in touch with us since the move. He's not been good about calling on Father's Day so who knows what he'll do.
I need to make a grocery list and get better stocked for next week's meals. Now that all of our appliances are hooked up, we need to continue to improve our eating. I also need to bring in the rest of the pots and pans. At least I know where those are.
Exercise for the week. I need to make a plan for that too. Hmm, maybe I can wheel an exercise bike into the family room until I get the TV hooked up in the spare bedroom. Got to have entertainment while using the exercise bike or else its too boring.
Leslie - Welcome to the group. We have several new ladies who have joined us recently. Jump in often and when you can just so that we can get to know more of each other. We also have a LeslieUK that posts occassionally.
Karen - Good to see you popping in. Did you get a good rest?
2Cute - How was the picnic? Bet you're glad that's over with! Great job for not letting the call of the food get to you!
Barb.W - Great to see you back. I've heard of Vonage but not checked into it. I'm not very adventorous when it comes to some of that new stuff.
Baby Steps - You asked where everyone lives. I live in Missouri.
I think I'm going to go find the scale and do a reality check today. And then some exercise before getting ready for church. I better get this posted before I screw around and lose it. to everyone!

This has been a hectic weekend. Had company yesterday from China. Wish I spoke Chinese! We hosted a chinese exchange student and her parents came by to say, "hello" while they were in the states. Funny what things can precipitate a diet. When I found out they were coming back at the beginning of March, I thought, "Gee, if I don't lose some weight before they get here, I'll never be able to show them around because my knee hurts too much." So here I am 59 lbs lighter and, believe me, I would have never made it through the sightseeing yesterday if I hadn't taken that weight off. I still had a hard time keeping up, but it wasn't too bad. Those Chinese people walk everywhere!!
Ruth, I hope your doctor can get you on the right track.
Terri, does that australian trainer have a tv show that's on one of the cable channels? I saw a little bit of a training show with an aussie one evening. Whoever he was, he seemed pretty good.
Welcome Leslie, I can relate to your scale challenges. Is there anything more uncomfortable than when the steering wheel rubs in just the wrong spot?
Babysteps, I'm from Iowa and I love Maine and Massachusetts. We used to do Cape Cod every summer and drive around the east coast while we were out that way. I miss those days. It seems like we have more trouble getting away than we used to. I could use a lobster roll about now, lol. Yum!
Hope everyone has a nice Father's day with their family. I think we're going to fix a chicken in the rotisserie. Very stress free cooking and pretty healthy. BJ
Karen, good to see you peeking in too before bed. Sometimes we don't need to say much... just hello let's everyone know we are here. Hope you had a good nights sleep.
Terri .. I LOVED your story of bringing the last horse home. It made me smile.
The picnic got cancelled. RAIN !!!!!!! I can't say I am sorry. LOL
Don't let the reality check with the scale sabatoge you. Stay POSITIVE !!!
BJ ... I am so proud of you for losing 59 lbs !!!! Did you lose that much since MARCH ???? WOWZA !!!! Tell me again what food plan you are on ?? Can I rub up against you ??
Okay... that does not reply to everyone... but it does hit those who posted since my last post. LOL
I am so glad for the newcomers... and happy for some of the oldtimers returning.... and appreciative of everyone else who has been posting and keeping this place going.
Now to get more of the old timers posting again. * HINT HINT*
LESLIE, WELCOME! Is that a pickup truck you mentioned or a Big Truck. I just ask cuz I drive long-haul myself.
TERRI, Wish I'd seen Clinton Anderson, too!!
BJF, My nephew just came back from China and my niece was in Beijing teaching English for two years. It's an amazing place with amazing people... and yes they sure do walk more than we do!!
BARB, Glad to see you back... I have to admit, I do checkin on your workplace drama when I'm here. I'm glad you have some realitive peace for the moment, tho!
Hi Ruth, 2Cute, Karen, BabySteps, Lilion, and everyone!!!
I'm home for a bit - DH is off to look at a bike in a few minutes, but it's one that's in our budget and I'm for it. I'm off to move that horse I leased to his new home. We won't talk about the diet thing until I get that new copy of SBD, but I WILL be going back to my exercise class this week.
THE BIG NEWS is that the girl and mustang I've been working with had their first horse show ever yesterday. There was absolutely NO kicking, and she took 3 first place ribbons and 2 seconds! It was a very small turnout in her division, but she did really well and that's the thing. Funny, after people have spent months telling her she & that horse would NEVER be ready in time for fair - which isn't for another month - now they're telling her she should be riding a higher level! My other student, Nina, made a couple crucial mistakes in 2 of her classes, but won her jumping class, so we're very happy.
